UnFrSaKn 02-16-2011, 04:35 PM Just got back from shooting video today. Naturally, the wind makes it a pain to get steady shots and annoying noise in the microphone. Not really happy with it, since I've shot from about every angle I can find and it doesn't look much different than a month ago. I did get some shots at the I-35 construction site and a few in Bricktown. I managed to get stuck in some kind of military event in Bricktown, with a lot of men and women in fatigues. Total gridlock. It's my own fault though I guess.
I've never shot on different days and combined them. I want to wait until it's officially taller than Chase and go back on another day before I finish it. Next week perhaps.
Speaking of the corner near The Lunch Box (http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=35.466496,-97.519541&spn=0.001191,0.002706&z=19&layer=c&cbll=35.46663,-97.51954&panoid=zicyItfnr-E8Kt5iuCzgtQ&cbp=12,268.57,,0,5.71)... every single time I stop at that corner across from the construction site, I get some person who feels the need to stop me and talk. Not your normal curious person asking questions, no. Last month some old man asked me, "Hey young man..." and asked for money. Do these guys ask all the construction workers for money too? He didn't ask anyone else and walked off. Today, this guy walks out of the Hotel Black there and asked me, "Do they pay you to record this?" I said no. Then he asked me if I like to breakdance. WTF?! I said "nope". "What kind of motherf*cker don't like to breakdance?!" He said something about even people in China breakdance or some nonsense and I pretend like he's not there and walks off. It's always the same kind of people who hang around there and don't have a life. People in suits and construction workers mind their own business. Let it be a warning to you.
By the way, during the summer when I shot that one night time video, was actually the first time I was asked for money. It was dark and kind of spooked me because no one was around. I'm almost certain it was that same guy. Beware.

That is certainly the funniest thing I've read anywhere today...LMAO...

Is there anything particular we're suppose to notice? I'm looking at your pic and only noticing that the shot behind him is looking NNW out of downtown OKC. Or is it suppose to be something in the interview, like how the interviewer said, "go Flames"?

You probably scoured the whole video for an easter egg. No, it's just the downtown shot.
Upon reviewing the video, I actually had recorded it by not pressing pause. Idiot took me totally off guard. I deleted it because I said a few bad things under my breath when he walked off that was also recorded....
mrktguy29 02-16-2011, 08:30 PM I got some distant views today from various angles looking South and it looks too be the same height as the Chase Tower from all angles. I-35 SB at 122nd, Hefner Road East of I35 and Penn Ave just North of Memorial. From a distance the Chase Tower looks so skinny now that Devon is getting to the the same height. Still amazes me the amount over Chase it has to go still.

UnFrSaKn 02-17-2011, 12:04 PM Devon Energy Center construction on schedule (http://newsok.com/devon-energy-center-construction-on-schedule/article/3541436)
The new Devon Energy Corp. tower being built downtown hit 500 feet in the air this week, matching the height of the city's tallest building, Chase Tower.
An update delivered today by Brad Soderwall, a representative of Hines, the tower's developer, shows the project is on schedule for employees to begin moving into Devon Energy Center next year.
Thanks, Steve

About time to zoom out on the webcam.
After one suggestion.
Geez people, Pete knows that, why dont people respect that Pete has generously paid for this site, a host computer, and the webcam in addition to the monthly maintenance fees. He'll zoom it out when ready.
Some people on here get pissy if you mention the need to adjust the web cam.

An easter egg is like a hidden image or message in a picture.
Here's a capture from the Channel 9 webcam.

Since this is Pete's, he suggested the view from the Chesapeake Finish Line Tower and I tend to agree. The view from the whole area of town is the best in my opinion. You just have the power lines in the way right now.
Here's a screen cap of the video from Wednesday.

dmoor82 02-18-2011, 07:17 PM ^^That angle of dt is awesome but have you seen the skyline from Air Depot and Reno in MWC?It looks massive and if I had a good camera I'd take a pic and post it!
UnFrSaKn 02-18-2011, 07:39 PM WTF???????????????? I don't get it....
Along with the artistic theft accusation, I’ll go ahead and explain this one for you too. When I said, “Notice anything?” under the Fox Business screen cap, I was referring to the downtown shot in the background. Some took it to mean a hidden “easter egg” or something not that obvious. Does that make any sense? Maybe it’s just me, but I’m pretty good at understanding people’s intent in what they say here. I certainly don’t flip out and get mad or offended at the drop of a hat. I added two buildings to your original image a few pages back, because David Pollard asked for someone to do it. I took my own time to do it for his sake. You could easily have done it yourself the same way you made the original image, and it would have looked much better. Most people I would assume took it for what it was. You choose to get bent out of shape over it. I personally dislike and stay away from people who accuse me of things and get upset at the slightest thing. I like your contributions here, with the skyscraper comparisons you do in the software you use. I’m sure everyone does. But for everyone’s sake, relax a little. Take a chill pill. Nobody comes here to argue, and this is the last thing I’m saying on the matter.

Very true...for some reason all of downtown appears taller from that intersection in MWC. I also like the view from due west (State Fair) at sunset. Maybe cuz Chase Tower is skinniest and Sandridge is widest from those 2 angles.
plmccordj 02-19-2011, 09:40 AM I agree that from just East of Air Depot on Reno is the most incredible view I have ever seen. It is very similar to the one Pete posted above.
UnFrSaKn 02-19-2011, 03:37 PM Just wrapped up another video shoot. Will have it all up as soon as I can. Then I'm going to work on the Sandridge Commons video.
dcsooner 02-19-2011, 08:22 PM DT still looks unbalanced and could use about 2-3 towers to close the gaps on the East and West. Maybe someday a hotelier will build a real hotel of about 20-25 stories like a Embassy Suites, Hyatt Regency. Many cities OKC size have hotels that go vertical

Unfortunately OKC has had that in the past (Biltmore Hotel) and decided in would be better to implode.
edcrunk 02-20-2011, 09:54 AM I think the money shot of the new skyline will be taken from someones balcony at Block 42.
soonerwilliam 02-20-2011, 01:34 PM Can someone go into Wikipedia (Oklahoma City) and update the new population numbers from 2010 census (city proper and msa). State of Oklahoma and Tulsa are up-to-date on Wiki. Thanks!
Last I checked the actual numbers were up to date, just the year was off.
mrktguy29 02-20-2011, 03:29 PM I think the money shot of the new skyline will be taken from someones balcony at Block 42.
I work for a real estate company and did a photo shoot from one of the Block 42 units. It was a facing downtown and the rooftop patio view was AMAZING and this was even before the Devon Tower was started or even publicly known. I will have to see if I can find the image and I will post it.

^^^ Money shot right there!
Kerry 02-21-2011, 07:50 AM Honestly - I don't know how you are going to get a picture of downtown OKC fit into a rectangle without cutting off the top of the Devon building. Look at the current banner and try adding Devon to it. The building at the other end are going to be small you will barely see them. Pete has a challenge on his hands. He might even need a bigger banner.
OKCisOK4me 02-21-2011, 01:10 PM I took a few distance shots yesterday and will upload them after I get off work tonight. Keep an eye out.

OKC74 02-21-2011, 10:15 PM Was anyone else just watching Channel 5 news? They did an "update" on the Devon Tower...and showed a shot from their chopper. They said that they "confirmed" with builders today that the building was now as tall as the Chase Tower, and that when completed, it would stand 908 feet in the air. Wasn't the original 925 feet, and scaled back to 850 feet? Anyone know what's up with the 908?
I hope that "908" is true...
UnFrSaKn 02-21-2011, 10:22 PM Was it at 10pm?

OKCisOK4me 02-22-2011, 12:21 AM William, thanks for the vids--especially for posting the links on skyscraperpage so I could watch them on my phone! Really excellent. It'll be interesting when they start moving employees into the building. The lone man walking down the street will be many more before we know it. Can't wait for the third installment!
Thunder 02-22-2011, 12:58 AM I had a dream recently and it was so twisted. With all the earthquakes and scare all around, I dreamt that OKC had a very violent earthquake. All the buildings was shaking, twisting, jumping up and down, but only the Devon Tower completely fell down.
Anyone have any dreams about the construction...tower...anything? I'm sure we all had a dream at least once.
Oh, I forgot, all of the cranes was still standing...did not seem to have a damage to it. And a guy up there laughing like crazy. Yeah, weird dream.
plmccordj 02-22-2011, 05:23 AM They may have found the 908 feet from this About.com story http://okc.about.com/od/attractionsandevents/a/okcdevontower.htm
