swilki 01-17-2011, 10:42 PM I too made it downtown today - gotta love federal holidays! Haven't seen a pic taken from this side of downtown in a while (looking SE). Pardon the quality, all I had was my cell phone.

Me too. The buildings are much more condensed from this angle!
soonerwilliam 01-18-2011, 03:42 PM I agree. I really like that view of downtown. Also, have they started the 30th floor/story yet?
dmoor82 01-18-2011, 04:06 PM Me too. The buildings are much more condensed from this angle!
^^My Least favorite angles are from The SW part of The city, like coming from The Airport or from The NE part of The city like around The Med.district or The State Capitol!
ChaseDweller 01-18-2011, 04:08 PM Hello - long time lurker and first time poster. I own a webcam and work in the Chase Building on a fairly high floor. I will see about setting up the cam up here for you guys. It may be a bandwidth issue, but at the very least, maybe I can figure out how to send still pictures every hour or somesuch. Anyway, I would post a pic I took today with my iPhone from where the cam would be located, but apparently, I need to be a member longer to do that. Coming soon, I guess!
ChaseDweller, thanks for your interest and kind offer! I sent you an email about how we might proceed.
Also, you should be able to upload your photo now -- we simply moderate the first few posts of all users to avoid the board being spammed.

Not yet. They are working on the ceiling for the 28th level or the floor for the 29th level depending on your point of view.
hipsterdoofus 01-19-2011, 08:56 AM ChaseDweller, that sounds great! Even updating once every 10 minutes or 5 wouldn't require much bandwidth at all if it is a still image. Could probably work something out where it uploads the image to somewhere offsite so you aren't serving out to everyone on the board.
Thunder 01-19-2011, 09:01 AM True. I have used CoffeeCup's software to upload images from my cam when I had it on a tank every second. For this project, every minute or five is fine. There are many free hosting to set up with a simple code on a web page to display the images on whatever intervals.
soonerwilliam 01-19-2011, 09:40 AM Thanks ljbab728 for the info.
mrktguy29 01-19-2011, 10:05 AM My friend works downtown and get to her office quite early in the morning. She knows about my interest in thw tower and said it looked amazing this morning lit up. She shot a picture with her phone, its not the greatest quality but a different perspective than what we have seen. She also said she would take me sometime with her and let me in her garage so I could get some good shots with a better camera.

Services like EarthCam and OxBlue (used by Chesapeake's contractor) are expensive and meant to be mounted on the exterior of an adjacent building. The people at Chase Tower aren't going to let us do that, cost aside.
We are working on getting something setup on an upper floor in Chase Tower and also near the new LEVEL and Aloft construction. In both cases -- just like the current Devon webcam -- a poster on the board simply volunteered and I've helped them in various ways.

The Wikipedia picture is from a photo posted on here a few months ago. I thought at first it was a capture from my latest video.

Either way though. It's terrible. (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3a/Oklahoma_city_skyline.JPG)
The one you suggest, from that angle it makes all the buildings look the same size and out of proportion, but that's just my opinion.
dankrutka 01-20-2011, 06:07 PM Any ideas of other pics then?

I think a shot from the place above (SE 15th, just west of I-35) would be awesome during spring time with storms in the background behind downtown!
And random thought here but is it just me or would downtown look even more awesome if a midrise skyscraper was built in the square block where, currently, Devon construction employees park? I may have brought this up in the past, but honestly, I can't remember...
soonerwilliam 01-20-2011, 10:05 PM I agree with Thunder and KilgoreTrout. Post that view. I'ts much better than what is being used now.

Thunder,
Not that I know exactly how copyright laws work vs. public domain. Not that I even care. But it always nice to ask someone permission before using something they did.
Thanks for asking KilgoreTrout.

He already asked you. Now everyone was just waiting for your response. Once an answer is given, then it is all a go. Wiki has all that info to put in who produced the picture, etc.
cdbthunder 01-21-2011, 08:46 AM Is it just an optical illusion or me because the WTC doesn't look like it is 52 stories. Devon hasn't reached 30 stories and it looks as big as the WTC, unless of course it just has to do with the buildings in each of the surrounding areas

Have you been to NYC, specifically the WTC site, those buildings are MASSIVE.

^^No doubt, having been to NYC a few times it will Amaze you how Massive and Tall towers can get in NYC!Downtown OKC's towers/highrises could fit in a few blocks of dt Manhatten!

I love Manahattan--but only for a few days at most--at a time.
dcsooner 01-21-2011, 10:12 AM Not sure why every one is dismayed at the picture of DT OKC. DT OKC is relatively sparse in terms of tall buildings, old, with most of the high rise buildings having been built circa 1960's, whichi means boxy and plain. DT OKC has a long way to go to be photogenic

C'mon. It was obviously just a bad picture; everyone is aware of what our Downtown lacks, so no need to reiterate "DT OKC has a long way to go to be photogenic." However, the very least we can do is to get a decent picture of it, and not one that looks like complete crap. Thankyou very much.

I think floor spacing is also in play here. Devon tower has 20' spacing on the first six floors and 15' spacing on each floor above that. The floor spacing on the Freedom tower looks smaller to me. A previous post said 600 something feet and 52 floors also. That equates to 11 to 12 feet per floor.
soonerwilliam 01-21-2011, 04:43 PM KilgoreTrout are you still planning on replacing the current picture of OKC on Wiki with the other one? I hope so because the one on there now doesn't do anything for the downtown skyline.
swilki 01-21-2011, 05:36 PM I went ahead and made the change. Wikipedia doesn't make it very easy to change pictures IMO. Also removed the "Big Friendly" nickname. Who uses that?
Anyway, if someone has a better pic go and ahead and remove mine.
UnFrSaKn 01-21-2011, 07:26 PM Google Maps has First National now in 3d.

You are very welcome. If the picture posted is "factual: than maybe DT OKC is just bad/ugly or whatever and investment (like what Devon and Sandridge are doing) needs to occur to modernize DT. However, if photoshoping pictures of DT OKC to make it appear more dense or urban that is well, just stupid.
hipsterdoofus 01-21-2011, 08:18 PM Also removed the "Big Friendly" nickname. Who uses that?

It is a simple thing...just remember that number--1,032. Think of it as black helicopters, raving lunacy, giggly stuff for teenage not-it-alls...just simply write it down on a piece of paper and keep it in a book somewhere. I mean--how hard is that?
Kerry 01-22-2011, 03:14 PM 1,032 - that is what page we will be on when Devon Tower is completed.
Does anyone know what percentage of height is completed? Are they half way?
