geterdone 08-01-2010, 04:25 PM No, No, Aubrey has 10 times the ego of Larry Nichols. I know them both and Larry is a very basic man, as Aubrey is always trying to impress. Aubrey, has a bike built by Orange County Choppers, has clubs just to take his friends that make no financial value. Also why do think Aubrey has so much invested in the Thunder? It would probably makes more sense just to put all the offices into one or maybe they should just build a huge shed to comfort all of the envious.

could not disagree with you more about Aubrey

Can you give some good reasons? So far all I have heard is a heaping stack of evidence backing up the original comment.

Evidence, hearsay, or gossip? Things you know to be fact?
kinggober 08-02-2010, 12:11 PM They are flying in the 2nd set of floor forms. These are roughly 5 ft shorter than the previous floors.
OKCisOK4me 08-02-2010, 05:26 PM Sorry for those that can't see the Skyline cam, but looking at the building from above, I keep thinking of The Dharma Initiative logo, lol...
jbrown84 08-02-2010, 10:53 PM Haha nice!

I removed 4 floors from the 925ft rendering to create this rendering at 850ft.
The red box represents the construction already completed, and the 500ft mark is the height of the chase building (okc's current tallest) which should be around the 32nd floor. I marked the 667ft to represent the bok building in tulsa (oklahoma's current tallest) which should be between level 43 and 44.
USG'60 08-04-2010, 11:59 AM Where is the link, Bryan?

Here is another one that I downsized the devon tower from 925ft to 850ft without changing the height of the other buildings.
Also the height of the Bok tower(current tallest building in Oklahoma), is marked at 667ft and the chase building height is marked at 500ft. The chase building looks shorter than the 500ft in this rendering because it is set back further. The current height of the construction is also marked with red.
ronronnie1 08-04-2010, 05:14 PM It looks more stubby now. doG why did they lower the height? As someone said earlier, I hope somehow they'll surprise us and add back the 75 or so feet like the original plans called for. Don't half ass it - go for the gold.
Oh, and thanks for the renderings Bryon.

Thanks very much, Bryanosaurus--for the new rendering...it is quite nicely done! For anyone who missed seeing the Construct-O-Cam on OKCTalk...remember there is always another on this link http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=690618&page=31 same camera shot, I used it while this site was down. Nice to have a backup...

There are those of us...spurned and abused...who still believe that the final will be 925 ft.+...but--keep it under your hat! There are guards around the castle to refute such heresy...

Really? Really? I mean seriously......
Northsider 08-04-2010, 11:25 PM the design of this tower will make it possible (from some angles) in the sun to glow yellow, then cool off to a light blue at night..... pretty cool... the taller the better
HOT ROD 08-05-2010, 02:49 AM shoot for 1000 feet (or at least 300 metres) for Oklahoma's only supertall. heck, it's only 150 feet higher than 850.. ...
may be the ONLY time a supertall skyscraper is ever built in Oklahoma and would only be the third such building west of Chicago [1 in Houston and 1 in LA]. Wouldn't it be great for OKC to be on that list. OKC would join the likes of LA, Houston, Chicago, NY, and ATL for cities having a supertall. .....
please do it, Devon - you'll need the space once you diversify into more green energy!!!
HOT ROD 08-05-2010, 02:50 AM oh, one more thing - was there ever a night rendering posted and/or did anyone ever say how the building would be lit at night?
jmarkross 08-05-2010, 03:29 AM Paying to have a 925-ft building designed and finding a way to get it built denotes a certain amount of ambition. Now, some would think it perfectly natural that deciding to downsize it 75-ft is a wise business and image choice--others might postulate that 925-ft is a prelude (and option) to add 78-ft more at least, surpassing Dallas (921-ft) and Houston (1002-ft) and making a **huge** statement about your company. Maybe Devon is just an exploration concern, not interested in fame and prestige. But--then again--maybe not. And, by the way, adding a few hundred million dollars worth of free added advertising and immense recognition in a time when other cities are not building much. Reminds me how people in the East laughed at the Oklahoma Land Run in 1889 and how little there was to be had there. The question is simple--how wide is the vision of the people who chose this marvelous, triangular and spectacular structure we see taking form before us today. And--perhaps--they might be the first really big player in the CNG-based consumer automotive fuel industry to replace liquid gasoline...and they have almost all the chips they need now to put a lot on "00" on the roulette wheel of American Industry. And--it will deal a death-blow to dependence on foreign oil--for which they would receive incalculable praise and prestige. Or--maybe they just need to save a few bucks and move the computer room elsewhere. My instincts tell me different.
mburlison 08-05-2010, 07:46 AM In the I.T. industry at the moment, risk management and disaster recovery are hot issues. Moving the computer room elsewhere makes perfect sense and I doubt they have time for games. Building this headquarters is practically a drop in the bucket to Devon's cash flow (their cash flow is huge), and they could build it as high or big as they wanted at any time - if they have shortened the building by a few floors, it's not about money.
jn1780 08-05-2010, 01:15 PM The south core form has jumped and you can no longer see the Crystal Bridge building. The concrete boom is starting to get really close to tower crane 1 so I guess that means the cranes will have to be jumped within the next week or two. Anyone see any signs of them mounting the cranes to the building?
OKC@heart 08-05-2010, 01:20 PM I am looking forward to a couple of construction cam milestones. 1. The Tower crane jumps as mentioned above. 2. the building breaking and obstructing our view of I-40, should happen within a couple of weeks. 3. The Tower interrupting the line of the horizon, and the floor being inline with the height of the camera. That will provide some great shots through the building! It will be fun to see the sky through the building.
Would love some updated pics if anyone is so inclined!

Does anyone know if the final structural specifications could actually support the originally proposed 925 feet or even 1000 feet? I assume that, in the name of efficiency, there is little room for maneuver with load bearing parameters. Any structural engineers on the blog who could comment?

jn1780 08-05-2010, 02:44 PM It looks like they started an alternating pattern of placing rebar. Every other core wall has rebar that is two floors high. On the next floor the other core walls will have rebar that is two floors high.

Panorama from last Thursday.
hipsterdoofus 08-06-2010, 08:46 AM I know this is added expense, but is it just me, or would it be nice to have 2 cams eventually? 1 that stays pointed where this one is and one that follows the tower up. Soon the cam will have to be pointed up to follow progress, but there will be tons of stuff still going on at the base...just a thought.
hipster, it's not the expense... We'd need another location, where someone could mount and point a camera (which I would provide) and have it continually connected to an operating and internet-connected computer.
If someone has a good spot, let me know and I'll buy a camera and lead them through the set-up.

Could we not have 2 camera's in the same spot, just point 1 up? I guess it would be limited in how high the window frame goes, but I would think that would work for a little while.

I think the guy having the cam in his office will probably do that.
Troypin 08-07-2010, 09:03 AM what is that thing on the eastern part of the podium?
OKCisOK4me 08-07-2010, 09:35 AM I had to read your question a few times to realize that it was the same question I had. Therefore, I can't give you an answer but it sure does cast a nice shadow...
OKC@heart 08-09-2010, 12:44 PM It is likely that this floor is taking them longer due to the fact that it is a new set of forms that they are having build and adjust to be right for the rest of the building. It is not that common that this thread goes silent enough for it to fall of the current thread list for daily activity, so thought I would post thoughts.
I am eager to start see the electrical progress in the form of service lighting on the lower floors. This will allow a greater deal of subcontracting work to take place round the clock. (and provide more exciting night time photo ops.
It will also be great to see the completion of the basement overhead slab. Wondering what the arrival date for the first glazing to arrive on the site for the tower.
Platemaker 08-10-2010, 09:49 AM Also... it seems like they are taking time to remove the scaffolding and forms from te lower floors now that the concrete has set enough.
oncendone 08-10-2010, 06:19 PM Must be one floor every 18 days.

Edit: I see the driver side mirror. :ohno:
Thunder 08-10-2010, 10:02 PM I held it up while both of my eyes was looking straight forward. I could see off the corner of my eye where the tower is as I adjust the phone. This was done during rush-hour-traffic. I'll do another one when the height doubles.

susyseals 08-11-2010, 07:29 AM The crane directly to the west of the tower is connected to the building, can see it when leaving the parking garage every morning.

ndmoore 08-11-2010, 01:02 PM The crane directly to the west of the tower is connected to the building, can see it when leaving the parking garage every morning.
They haven't connected any cranes to the building yet.
ndmoore 08-11-2010, 01:08 PM I made this map this past weekend.
It is a map of the visibility areas for the tower.
The red areas on the map are the ares where you would be able to seethe tower at that location. This is all assuming you are 6 feet tall and if there are no trees or buildings in the way, topography is included. I chose the building height to be 825 feet for this map because I figured you would actually want to be able to see the building and not just the very top. Oh and the radius of the circle is 36 miles, not that you can actually see that far, but I thought I would extend it out that far.

jmarkross 08-11-2010, 02:13 PM Thanks ndmoore for the astute idea on your map--a very thoughtful and well done presentation. I remember as a kid in the 1950's when I could look out my upstairs bathroom window on cold clear nights from our home in north Norman...and quite clearly see downtown OKC, rather more clearly with binoculars. Was pretty flat between the two spots...about 17 miles distance...
jbrown84 08-11-2010, 02:39 PM WOW! Amazing.
OKCisOK4me 08-11-2010, 02:55 PM That's pretty sweet. What would be even sweeter is if they would start putting the prefab forms up for the third section of the 8th floor. I wonder what the hold up has been...
