metro 05-05-2010, 10:58 AM Platemaker, what is going on there, is that where the Colcord Events Center will be, or is it going to be more park like and connect to the Devon plaza park. Platemaker 05-05-2010, 11:03 AM It will eventually be park area. The construction on Sheridan and the concrete demo behind the Colcord is to connect the Colcord to Trigen at Sheridan and Gaylord. This will allow the removal of air handlers between the Devon site and the Colcord so that the Colcord is still operational and the Devon construction site can expand into that area. There is also considerable demo happening in the basement level of the Colcord... moving boilers, etc. and preparation for the tunnel between the hotel and the parking garage. The 'connector' between the Colcord and the Devon tower will be at the northwest corner of the hotel. Of Sound Mind 05-05-2010, 11:50 AM Um...It's Cinco De Mayo! I guess I didn't realize that it had become a national holiday. Wish someone had told my boss. ndmoore 05-05-2010, 12:28 PM I guess I didn't realize that it had become a national holiday. Wish someone had told my boss. Yeah same here. Actually, they are having a Site Wide Safety Meeting today. Of Sound Mind 05-05-2010, 12:29 PM Yeah same here. Actually, they are having a Site Wide Safety Meeting today. That makes more sense. jmarkross 05-05-2010, 01:04 PM I guess I didn't realize that it had become a national holiday. Wish someone had told my boss. I remember fondly all the massive Fourth of July celebrations when I traveled to Mexico... TaurusNYC 05-05-2010, 01:43 PM Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's equivalent to our Independence Day. jbrown84 05-05-2010, 06:17 PM I think Bradford Pears are incredibly beautiful about three weeks out of the year:1-1/2 weeks when they bloom in the spring, and 1-1/2 weeks when they turn in the fall. Other than that, I think they're sorry, PITA little lollipop trees that obscure building facades, attract too many birds, and tend to be uprooted in windstorms (due to density) and split/deformed mercilessly in ice storms (density, fragility). NOT a fan. Completely agree. "lollipop" is a good descriptor. They all seem to grow to the same size/shape and have an ugly, waxy look to the leaves. Beautiful in bloom and ugly the rest of the year. MadMonk 05-05-2010, 09:08 PM Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's equivalent to our Independence Day. It's barely even celebrated in Mexico! :LolLolLol CuatrodeMayo 05-05-2010, 11:02 PM Uh oh...somebody is going to sick the Board of Governors on you... possumfritter 05-06-2010, 08:46 AM For a second there I thought I was in the "New Topic" thread. Everything on here is about nothing--bickering, Bradford Pears & before we know it Marlon Brando... And all I asked kinggober was whether or not if he had the same pic (from one of his pics) back when the trees were in full bloom. My bad I guess... kinggober 05-06-2010, 08:54 AM And all I asked kinggober was whether or not if he had the same pic (from one of his pics) back when the trees were in full bloom. My bad I guess... LOL Cuatro how R things at Studio................. CuatrodeMayo 05-06-2010, 02:13 PM The doors are still open, so we're in good shape. clz46 05-06-2010, 03:00 PM anyone have a clue as to what that is on the east side closest to the Colcord. Is that what y'all were talking about the other day ...a walk way from the garage to the Colcord? clz46 05-06-2010, 06:09 PM My husband told me that it's just more scaffolding. Silly me. Troypin 05-06-2010, 09:18 PM Looks like the south elevator core could go up another floor tomorrow or saturday. ourulz2000 05-07-2010, 11:46 AM So, do we think the tower is now about up to 40-50 ft from top of scaffolding to ground? Watson410 05-07-2010, 11:59 AM It's probably pretty close to that from the ground, but not from street level. OKCisOK4me 05-07-2010, 01:16 PM I keep thinking to myself while looking at the still cam shot, "darn it, I thought this thing was suppose to be wide open". Then I remember, "oh yeah, this is the core of the tower, not the rotunda!" PS.... how often is the Skyline live cam "OFFLINE"? Kinda sad... Platemaker 05-07-2010, 01:48 PM So, do we think the tower is now about up to 40-50 ft from top of scaffolding to ground? It's level with the third floor of the Colcord at least. Troypin 05-08-2010, 04:41 PM whats the big red thing between the two elevator cores on the left of the cam? West Coast 05-09-2010, 04:57 PM Just in case anyone needs a refresher on what the first floor will look like from inside, here ya go! The first floor will have a very high ceiling which is going to require a lot of scaffolding to prepare for the second floor. http://z.about.com/d/okc/1/0/G/B/DevonInteriorRendering.jpg Pete 05-10-2010, 08:39 AM Any more posts on this thread not pertaining to construction of Devon Tower will be promptly deleted. Thanks. Peach fuzz 05-10-2010, 10:01 AM Can anyone tell me the dimensions of each new level of the cores? e.g. height, length? soonerwilliam 05-10-2010, 10:06 AM Thanks Pete! I appreciated your post. OKCisOK4me 05-10-2010, 10:50 AM Ah yes Pete, I thought something was different. Thanks! Glad to see they're finally pouring/placing ;) concrete on that last 1/3 of the ground level! vandy 05-10-2010, 11:42 AM I'm headed downtown here in a few minutes. That scaffolding looks like it is level with the ground floor of the Devon tower. This is not known, just a guesstimate, but I'd say that where the Executive Underground heated parking garage is going to be... OKC@heart 05-10-2010, 04:06 PM What is that being worked on directly north of the tower? That scaffolding looks like it is level with the ground floor of the Devon tower. OKCisOKforme is correct, that is shoring for the slab overtop the sub-grade parking. It is much easier to see now that they have the actual forming laid on top of it. Fun to see the remaining third of slab poured for the tower and the forming for the first above grade floor taking shape. That is some of the tallest shoring that I have seen for one floor! The tower will quickly begin to be visible due to the high floor to floor heights on this building. The rest will much smaller than the first level but higher by comparrison due to their using a raised floor configuration on each floor. Awesome! Troypin 05-10-2010, 04:19 PM What is the construction sites plan if a tornado hits? Also, how fast do the winds have to be to blow over the tower cranes? BDP 05-10-2010, 04:26 PM What is the construction sites plan if a tornado hits? Run away. OKC@heart 05-10-2010, 04:26 PM What is the construction sites plan if a tornado hits? Pray that it doesn't! No in all seriousness they have one and each are singularly unique to the specifica site and what is available. The first sign of severe weather and or strong gust fronts and you will see the Tower cranes all align with the prevailing wind. This lowers the wind profile and stress on the tower cranes. They of course will cease operations until the storm front has passed. They may have an agreement to be able to retreat all workers into the colcord or other similar structure to provide protection. The site itself with all of its staged construction materials and equipment all over the place would be like walking through a blender so would be a worst case scenario that one could think of. That is really why I stated to pray that one doesn't hit. Troypin 05-10-2010, 04:44 PM Pray that it doesn't! You will get a great following! So many of us cannot make it down there to see the site and this is a great and noble thing others do here. It is very much appreciated--it is like standing there yourself! Grant 05-11-2010, 03:25 PM Has anybody taken a recent picture from the street? I wonder what it looks like to passing cars and pedestrians. Should look pretty cool as the tower grows taller. metro 05-11-2010, 03:27 PM I will hopefully shoot a video of the area tonight or sometime this week, whenever my schedule and weather cooperate. Dustin 05-11-2010, 06:28 PM The tower base looks SOOOO small on the webcam but when you look at these pictures, it really shows just how mindbogglingly huge the site really is.. Amazing pictures! ronronnie1 05-11-2010, 06:37 PM THANK YOU to everyone who's posted pictures/video!!! Much appreciated. metro 05-11-2010, 08:20 PM I shot a bunch of video of the Devon site and MBG site tonight. OKCisOK4me 05-12-2010, 02:41 PM What progress has been made on the new I-40 and does anyone know when they plan to open it? Here is a thread dedicated to your question: http://www.okctalk.com/okc-metro-area-talk/15390-new-i-40-construction-updates.html Also, there is 40 Forward: Oklahoma's I-40 Crosstown Expressway (http://www.40forward.com), ODOT's dedicated official site to the construction of I-40. I contacted John Bowman by email the other day about the lack of photos updated on their site (usually a good amount once a month--it's been two months) and he told me the lady that did that job moved to Hawaii--I don't blame her. jmarkross 05-12-2010, 03:19 PM Thanks OKCisOK4me! Looks like it is farther along than I figured it was. I am so old I remember when they built the Crosstown Expressway...that poorly designed crumbling mess. It is a testimony how NOT to build an elevated expressway in this part of the world--especially with "suspect" concrete. That was way back in the early 60's when there were only two tall buildings in OKC, to speak of. Troypin 05-12-2010, 05:10 PM Are they finally pouring the elevator core on the south side? |
