citywokchinesefood 05-14-2024, 11:35 AM I hope it is big and bright. I don't find anything tacky about Times Square or Las Vegas. I think they are great examples of man's imagination and technical abilities.
Besides, we need the bright signage to help us get the FAA approval for the 1907 Tower.
Vegas is gawdy in a good way. Times Square is one of the most dystopian places I have ever visited in my life. NYC is one of my favorite cities on earth, Times Square burning to the ground and never being rebuilt would be an improvement. It is a tourist trap of epic proportions.
Today, new paperwork was submitted to increase the remaining Devon TIF (#8) from $1 million to $4 million.
This may be for the new LED light system on the tower.
Swake 05-17-2024, 08:08 PM That is wickedly cool. Almost like a small very high version of the sphere. Next should be Sauron's eye.

They are currently installing all the lighting planned to replace the old exterior lighting. It should be finished late July/early August. Expect to see testing throughout the month.

more like the end of the year

Maybe it is just all the work in the very top, but my friend that works for Hines was confident on the timeline.
bombermwc 07-05-2024, 07:04 AM Anyone catch the fireworks show on the Devon tower last night? While Bankfirst was showcasing the flag and looking great, the triangle at the top of the Devon tower was doing fireworks splashes. I hadn't noticed that they had put anything with LED that large up there before. Is that the first time they've used it?

Pete showed images of the same American flag graphic during testing back in February. It will be great when all triangles have that capability.
OKCTalker 07-05-2024, 02:44 PM This was at 9:01 last night (July 4). There was one tiny panel that appeared to be unlit, but otherwise it looked awesome. And yes, the flag was animated. 19001
SagerMichael 07-05-2024, 04:45 PM With the way the fins run all the way up and down the side of the building they could do a really cool countdown for new years with the lighting

The fins will never be lit up again. They have substantial damage from the wind and weather in addition to historically having issues from the start. Upthread pete has a graphic with the new lighting which will all be internal.

Just saw them testing the new lights on the side fins but ok buddy
Snowman 07-06-2024, 12:28 AM It makes way more sense components with known wear over time and entire system in the fixture could be replaced eventually, even if they actually worked great day one. There is a limit of how long any electronic component will work properly and some will fail long before the statistical average, which pales in comparison to the length the building would be around.

It seems the terminology is causing confusion.
There will be lighting on every floor within the three vertical indentions as well as the three triangles at the top. The LED lights will actually be inside the glass.
There are also vertical mesh metal panels in those indentions where the original LED system was installed. Those are now decommissioned in favor of this new interior system.

I understood what you meant. The horizontal lights won't have the same capability as the triangles, but they could have those lights light up from the bottom to the top as the triangles count down.

Its alright, you are a little confused on what is actually being lit up. I suggest you check out the images posted upthread buddy.

The flag was waving and the colors were moving on the corners. Pretty cool looking.
^
Thanks for that.
That's going to be badass for the Olympics.

Anytime! Yeah they’re going to be great for the Thunder playoffs and other events as well. So much more versatile than the initial iteration….and they actually work so that’s nice too lol.

Any pictures so that we can visually keep up with the progress? I know I don't speak for everyone but there are some who have lived in the city that don't currently, but love to keep a close eye on all the city's improvements as it looks to take a place on the national/global stage.

citywokchinesefood 08-31-2024, 05:37 PM Instead of having a ball drop they should slowly light up the tower ending with the triangle on top for New Years. It could be seen throughout the entire city, it would be pretty cool.

SagerMichael 09-01-2024, 10:49 AM Will the side lights reach to the top like they used to? This is the best Devon has looked in years but if this is it, feels a bit incomplete

I’m looking at it right now. Didn’t appear to run all the way up last weekend but it does look like they’re testing them all the way to the top tonight.
OkieBerto 09-09-2024, 10:04 AM On my way home from a movie at Flix the top of the building was an orange color and it looked like the Sauron Eye on Lord of the Rings.
The plans Devon filed show the lighting going all the way to the top (to the 51st level):

David 09-09-2024, 10:31 AM Mildly disappointing that the crown displays don't go all the way to the edge, but maybe there's a reason that couldn't happen.

The Eye of Sauron needed a containment area. Pretty reasonable IMHO.

Level 52 is a parapet wall... there is no interior space for mounting the fixtures.

Well, there you go.
You can see the lights in the indentions now go all the way to the top.
Also, when they use lights in the triangles rather than video, it fills the entire area.

now that's more like it!
The triangle lights are very bright; more so than just the default white lights.
Suddenly, our skyline is filled with color:

That's a pretty fantastic purple.
josefromtulsa 09-24-2024, 09:54 AM I like the pink/magenta color. I kinda wish it would be like a default color.
The neon green building in downtown dallas is very memorable even if its not the tallest.
onthestrip 09-24-2024, 02:49 PM Is there a reason 3 buildings were purple last night.
There was also 4 old looking planes in formation making multiple passes over downtown with smoke coming out yesterday evening.

SagerMichael 09-24-2024, 03:19 PM It was definitely more hot pink/magneta than purple. I tried to get a decent picture but my phone wasn’t picking up those hot LEDs
