That would make a lot of sense. But who knows. They still have all that Preftakes area to work with. I think Devon has much more coming for this town in the years ahead.

its funny you mention that because they actually use some of the trees as part of the barrier ... a guy with a chain saw and 10 seconds could clear a path for a truck to drive through

I was in Bricktown for lunch today and noticed the crane being used on the NE face of the tower working on the lights.

I don't know if I can take a pic of this without messing up the camera in my phone, but, in the late afternoon, on a sunny day as your heading east on the Hwy 152 ext. from Mustang the Devon tower looks like the eye of sauron. The reflection from that angled tip looks really wicked.

Don't know how many of you have noticed that Devon Energy Center has its own website:

You can register tours from the site. The thing that caught my attention was the sequence of factoids they run across the top.
Here's a couple:

"The entire Devon Energy Center complex weighs about 200 million pounds. The tower alone weighs 140 million pounds."

"Devon Energy Center has 50 elevators. The total, round-trip distance for all elevators is about 3.5 miles."

This has been up since October when the building opened.

If Devon Tower was scaled down to 8.4" tall, it would weigh 140 lbs.

I've noticed they haven't had the LED lights on for several nights -- or at least for a big chunk of the nights.

Hopefully they are getting close to finally finishing the lighting.

Should be able to do much more than what we've seen when everything is done and programmed. Effectively, each few feet of the fins can be controlled separately and are capable of hundreds of different colors. Looking forward to what they can do.

They have, but just in the crown, not the indentions.

I drove by last night and not only did they have them on, but did a pretty elaborate multi-color display in the indentions, with different floors being different colors in patterns. It looked uber cool.

Mentioned a week or two ago there was a building permit for a large medical clinic in Corporate Tower which we subsequently tied to Devon.

Now, I'm hearing they will be expanding their workout facilities with even more space in Corporate Tower.


It seems pretty obvious these are stop-gap measures until they can expand their facilities in the Preftakes block (immediately west of their current campus).

We also know there have been open discussions about a new tower for them, although that doesn't seem to be on the fast track at this time.

Has anybody noticed how the lights are coming? I haven't been down there at night recently to check it out. I hope they're getting close as the playoffs start in under a month.

I live four blocks west of Devon on Film Row and look at the tower every night as I put the baby to sleep...
The lights on the west side still flicker 3/4ths towards the peak and many of the bars are still missing :mad:

Me too. It's nice to be able to see the tower sans the lights sometimes. It makes it easier to appreciate the beauty of the building. I think they're still experimenting with different things to see what they like, but I hope they stick to crown-only most of the time and use the rest of the lights only a couple nights a week. Maybe weekends. Just thinking out loud, I guess.

Talked to a guy I know working on the LEDs and he said they've run into a lot of various problems that they're trying to fix. Sounds like they'll still be working on it for a while even though they're cutting back on their electricians from 5 to 3 or less now...

They were definitely testing the LED's last night, which is probably the first time I've seem them on in at least 2 weeks. So hopefully they are getting close.
