OKCisOK4me 09-19-2012, 02:53 AM THAT is soon going to be the best angle for ESPN live shots during Thunder games!! Another highrise, preferably on the old Cox Convention Center site (wishful thinking) would do wonders for that shot! :-) catcherinthewry 09-19-2012, 07:38 PM Peraonally, I think sharks with lazer beams attached to their heads is a more effective deterrent. I'm not sure if Steve has given an update on the official Devon Tower book. He brought an early copy at the RetroMetroOKC meeting this past Monday and gave everyone a sneak peek. It's a beautifully put together hard cover book that is large and has lot of photos and goes into great detail. About six of my photos made it into the book and I and others even got an honorable mention. I know there will be a book signing possibly next month. I would have to refer to Steve to give the details. I'm thinking of hitting the streets again since the Skydance Bridge opened on my vacation next month. I don't know the extent of what I'll do but my Flickr needs some updating. Pete 09-20-2012, 07:27 PM Will, we've missed you. Look forward to you getting back into the swing, at least a little bit. dmoor82 09-20-2012, 07:38 PM Great to have you back Will! Praedura 09-21-2012, 12:09 AM Dang! Just saw the Devon Tower for the first time tonight. From Edmond! So cool. I wasn't looking for it. Just driving down Broadway between 15th and 33rd this evening, looked ahead, and there it was. No mistaking the tower shape with that distinctive yellowish white triangle at the top. Awesome. I'm quite amazed at how well it's viewable this far north. I mean, I wasn't straining to see some tiny, barely detectable object. It was fully recognizable in all its glory. I'm going to take a picture very soon to show this view. I'm going to take a picture very soon to show this view. I've noticed it from Danforth and Bryant during the day. Don't know if you can see if from there at night or not. I haven't driven through that way at night in a while. OKCTalker 09-21-2012, 09:02 AM I was flying from Ardmore to Oklahoma City on a beautiful, clear winter morning a few years ago. Climbing out of ADM through 3,000' (MSL), I could begin to see the Oklahoma City's downtown skyline. It disappeared into the ground clutter as I continued climbing, but it was a remarkable sight. Today - with Devon all the way up - you can probably see it from the runway in Ardmore! Mr. Cotter 09-21-2012, 09:54 AM I've noticed it from Danforth and Bryant during the day. Don't know if you can see if from there at night or not. I haven't driven through that way at night in a while. It looks really nice from there at night. I walk the UCO campus before work, and when it's lit, it's very easy to see. Praedura 09-22-2012, 11:50 AM I liked your suggestion of UCO, Mr. Cotter, so I tried it last night. Found a good place for a shot, but my pics turned out awful. Because -- a) my camera isn't all that great -- b) I'm a little out of practice -- c) I don't have any experience with outdoor night shots. So, I'm going to try again and see if it can't coax a half-way decent shot out of my Digimax. In the mean time, here's a dreamy little picture of a distant OKC skyline that I came across: http://distilleryimage0.s3.amazonaws.com/f0b7e092fcf411e18a2c22000a1d0378_7.jpg (cue the Beatles "Here Comes The Sun") Bellaboo 09-23-2012, 10:23 AM I was down there Friday night and they were testing the lights. In the middle of the indention, one of the light bars was extremely bright compared to what we've seen before. There was also a lower portion of one of the triangles lit up and changing colors along with the 3 indentations. When they get it all cranked up, the light display will be outstanding. Pete 09-23-2012, 10:26 AM Yes, as I've mentioned the system has the ability to be much brighter than what we've seen thus far. Also, there is virtually an unlimited number of possible colors and all types of movement and programming yet to come. Milan 09-23-2012, 11:36 AM When will the Devon tower be officially open? Pete 09-23-2012, 11:45 AM It's been open for a long time but I believe their official dedication and the formal opening of Vast (the tower-top restaurant) will be Oct. 24. soonerwilliam 09-23-2012, 09:34 PM Still see two windows that need to be installed. They are both fairly close together. I thought they had finished installing all the windows. I'm just curious why it's taking so long. G.Walker 09-24-2012, 08:34 AM The window that was broke out due to the crane hitting it still has not been replaced, then they took out another window just below that here recently. Maybe there is more damage in that area than we thought, and they have to repair the whole area. Mr. Cotter 09-24-2012, 09:22 AM There is a third window on the same level as the crane broken window removed from the alcove part (where the lights are). But the black plywood is out, so it looks like they are working on it now. ILoveMalania 09-24-2012, 10:42 AM New here. Just thought I would try and post a picture of mine. He fetches his own lunch? The man's personal stock just went up three ticks in my eyes. Debzkidz 09-26-2012, 10:12 AM He fetches his own lunch? The man's personal stock just went up three ticks in my eyes. I've seen him in there waiting in line, just like everyone else. Rover 09-26-2012, 11:11 AM I think the anti-establishment group here sometimes is harsh on their criticisms and often does so without really knowing about some of the people or their intentions. Larry has always seemed very unaffected by his success. He has been generous with his time and money and I have never seen him treat anyone as if he thought he was better than them. There is a reason why he has been very successful. Larry doesn't seem the type to want to "control" but he does take his positions of leadership seriously. I think he balances his responsibilities to his faith, family, employees, investors and community very well. We should have more business and community leaders that humbly LEAD. OKCTalker 09-26-2012, 11:30 AM I've seen him in there waiting in line, just like everyone else. He takes his mom to IHOP on Sunday mornings, and they wait quietly in line with everyone else. Don't you just love old school class? Pete 09-26-2012, 11:33 AM At one of the Thunder playoff games, the camera was showing the team warming up and suddenly James Harden stops and goes over and introduces himself to an older woman that Larry Nichols was escorting to court-side seats. Figured out later it was Larry's mom. Really a cool, totally un-staged and genuinely nice act on the part of both men. The second I saw a post about Larry Nichols I knew that it was just a matter of time before Rover had to write up some long defense or praise of him. And no one even said anything negative. Larry Nichols is great, but how silly is it that we're giving him credit for getting in line like everyone else. What else should we praise him for? Using his legs while he walks. Lol. (Again. Not trying to start an argument. Larry Nichols is great.) metro 09-26-2012, 04:09 PM Are you saying Larry Nichols is the new Chuck Norris? Praedura 09-26-2012, 04:36 PM What else should we praise him for? Using his legs while he walks. YES, this exactly! Why, just the other day, I saw Larry Nichols walking along a sidewalk using his very own legs -- not riding piggyback on a subordinate like so many other CEO's do these days. And with every step, he touched the ground. He's such a down-to-earth guy! Pete 09-26-2012, 05:04 PM Larry Nichols is great, but how silly is it that we're giving him credit for getting in line like everyone else. What else should we praise him for? Using his legs while he walks. Lol. I've worked at several companies where the CEO would never, ever go stand in line for food. Most have their assistant fetch lunch for them. I even worked for one who insisted that the lunch be transferred to a crystal tray with real china and flatware. When I had lunch meetings with him she'd do the same for me and it made me incredibly uncomfortable. So, it does say something about Nichols' humility and general character that he does things like this frequently and seems to be a sincerely down-to-earth guy. Those qualities are rarer than you might think among people that have achieved his level of success. OKCisOK4me 09-27-2012, 08:22 PM The north triangle is lit in a beautiful deep blue tonight.
