View Full Version : Devon Energy Center
I'm in the process of booking a large event for the 50th floor banquet facility and when things are more nailed down I'll share some of the details. They've set all their prices but are still finalizing the menu and some other things, like if they will have to charge extra for guest parking in the Devon garage.
But to no surprise, they are already booking deep into 2013.

iMAX386 03-16-2012, 04:24 AM Where/how are you guys making reservations for Vast?
Bellaboo 03-16-2012, 07:34 AM Not sure if reliable, but Channel 4 had a story this morning that showed the inside of the tower, and said workers were moving in today.
I'm sure the moving has started because the building will be open for business on Monday.
metro 03-16-2012, 08:10 AM Perhaps a soft move in today, to move in personal items and get adjusted to the new space, including where all the amenities are.
In a recent interview John Williams said they hope to have Vast open by mid to late September.

Yes, the first annual OKCTalk Cotillion!
This is pretty cool... Some 360 degree views of various office configurations inside the tower...

jn1780 03-16-2012, 11:39 AM I'm sure the moving has started because the building will be open for business on Monday.
I imagine some of the corporate support personal have already moved in so they can work with the IT contractors in making sure the IT infrastructure is operational and that all the work stations successfully connects to the network when their packed up and moved Friday night. They will boot, connect , and verify Saturday and Sunday.
jn1780 03-16-2012, 11:47 AM Drove by tonight and they were shifting the colors again. It looks great! Blue to Purple to Red or Orange to Yellow to Green to White.
Saw it this morning. Looks awesome!
I think only putting lights on the identations and crown will be a good balance. It would look too gaudy otherwise.

How come the V has yellow lights but not the surrounding floors?

They aren't, unless it's for large events. That's all they're taking. I called this morning.

Doug Dawg will be the MC and EdCrunk the deejay! Will and I photogs.
Teo9969 03-16-2012, 02:33 PM I would imagine reservations for Vast won't be taken until one to two months before open. Definitely not before July.

lasomeday 03-16-2012, 03:22 PM Some of IT and HR are moving in Monday. They are moving the computers over the weekend.... today and tomorrow.
ChowRunner 03-16-2012, 04:18 PM How come the V has yellow lights but not the surrounding floors?
I was told the difference in the color of lights depends on if that floor has been finished or not...
Yellow color are the lights of consctuction crews... \\
white lights are the finished office lighting.
or vice versa... i forget which
Yeah, it's actually the permanent lights are yellow-ish and the construction lights are more white.
Looks like they have 37 floors now with permanent lighting, which means those floors are largely finished.

vice versa - white are where they are working. I get into office at 5 AM daily and they already have crews in - wonder if they are still doing 24/7?
They've been running various LED colors, but not more than one color at a time. I did get a couple of pics the other morning - not very good with IPhone, but I'll try and upload them soon.

They have been working pretty hard getting ready for the opening. They have been staying pretty late and working weekends finishing out the building.
UnFrSaKn 03-16-2012, 06:10 PM The Devon Tower virtual tour was nice while it lasted....
mburlison 03-16-2012, 07:37 PM BillyOcean - "are they taking reservations at vast yet?"
Yeah, i got mine in.
No I didn't ;) --- was just messin' - I apologize, I need a blue sarcasm font I guess ;)
There is a video interview with Larry Nichols if you follow the link and in it he says the executive team moves in next week but into temporary space until they get their floor ready. Pretty sure the top brass will be on the 47th floor, which is the only extra tall one other than the restaurant and banquet space and then the mechanical floor above them. Remember, there is no 48th floor.

Devon begins move into new building
Devon Energy Corp. began moving boxes into its new downtown headquarters on Friday. The first group of about 80 employees will report to work there Monday.

Teo9969 03-17-2012, 02:00 PM Anybody know the story on the random floor in the middle that is not completed?
Anybody know the story on the random floor in the middle that is not completed?
My guess is that not all the floors will be immediately occupied, since they wanted room for growth.
So, they are probably completely finishing where people will be moving in right away, then will come back and do the remainder.
I would also think they would leave empty floors scattered throughout the building so various departments could expand in the future but stay contiguous.
And finally, rather than having floors partially occupied, to save on energy I'm sure they'll want to fill one completely before opening another.
kevinpate 03-17-2012, 03:45 PM Anybody know the story on the random floor in the middle that is not completed?
Maybe that's the floor for the habitually tardy and/or grumpy?
OUSoonerfan3 03-17-2012, 05:45 PM Anybody know the story on the random floor in the middle that is not completed?
Schindler had their material for the high rise elevators staged on the 25th floor. Once the elevators are completely built that floor will be finished.

A continued positive for OKC.
The arrival of Devon Energy Center is also seen a big step forward in solidifying Oklahoma City's standing in the energy industry. The Tulsa World recently surveyed 16 industry executives and analysts from across the country and asked them to rank the top oil capitals of North America. Oklahoma City was ranked third behind Calgary and Houston.
That's very cool PR for OKC.
This was interesting regarding SandRidge; I know they will soon have a bunch more space when the Braniff Building is done but at this rate their new tower may have to be of decent size:
The company has grown so quickly that it is already filling up the 29-story tower at 123 Robert S. Kerr Ave. and recently leased two floors at Beffort's City Place Tower.
soonerwilliam 03-18-2012, 12:15 PM Pete, in an earlier press release Sandridge stated that the new tower would have a larger footprint, so the building might end up a bit smaller or could end up about the same size as their present tower.
I said earlier that I thought Devon might leave some floors empty for future expansion but I've been told that is not the case...
They will have people on every floor and just leave offices empty for growth.

BoulderSooner 03-19-2012, 07:22 AM that pic gives some perspective on how big the rotunda is ..
Who is going down there to day to share photos with all your OKCTalk friends????
UnFrSaKn 03-19-2012, 09:48 AM I wouldn't go down in this torrential rain even if I was off work. I don't leave until 6:30 then I'm going to a RetroMetro board meeting. Supposed to rain most of the week.
ChowRunner 03-19-2012, 10:32 AM This is a photo I took from my phone on Saturday..
I have a better one on my dslr.. But couldn't wait to share
ChowRunner 03-19-2012, 10:44 AM I took several .. Ill post more later tonight.
Bellaboo 03-19-2012, 12:12 PM Leaving the game around 11:00 pm last night, they were continuously cycling the colors, blue, purple, green, red....it seemed to go at least halfway up the building. Most of the fins were on, with only a few having issues. Looked awesome, I over heard several people talking about it as we went back to the parking garage.
flippity 03-19-2012, 01:07 PM just had lunch at the new food court...pretty awesome. many choices and plenty of seating. i forgot my dang phone so i didn't get any pictures.
YO MUDA 03-19-2012, 02:46 PM Nice picture AaronB, thanks.
Bullbear 03-19-2012, 03:51 PM I guess I have not been fortunate enough to be down that direction when they have had the Triangle lit up with LED. are there any pics? I am anxious to see it when all the lights are working!
Really good picture, AaronB.

I haven't been in Oklahoma City for the past week now so I haven't even seen the LED lights cycling yet or the crown lit up.
The triangle / crown has not been lit up with LED's as of yet.
There has been construction lighting but the LED's have only been tested up to about the 30th floor and they will continue working their way up the building.
