While I was taking those last shots with the fountain and robins in the foreground, this dude dressed in black high heels and a black dress was strolling down Robinson with another person (girl? boy?) around his arm. When they got next to the fountain, he started flinging his arms and accidentally threw his wig in the water and had to crawl in and pick it out. All the while laughing hysterically. I was so tempted to take a photo but didn't. Somehow I was able to mind my business and try and not notice. Can't make this stuff up.

Thanks very, very much Will for all these photos. They have come a very long way in just a week and only have one week left before they are open for business. I know construction will continue for about another six months but I'm sure their goal is to have the rotunda, lobby and main north and south entrances relatively complete.

Next week at this time we will probably have people down there taking photos of the inside.

Pete, from the looks of the recent ground work, are you sure they are ready to move in next week?, Would'nt it be difficult for employees to have access to the main entrance?

The employees will be coming in from the parking garage and it has a direct link to the lobby.

Still, I bet they have both main exterior entrances largely complete.

A friend that works for Devon told me that the first wave is packing up this weekend and will be moving next week. My friend does not move until July. The media confirmed this a month ago.

First group should be at work by Monday and the food court opens in the Garden Wing then, too.

On the webcam you can see they are installing the soil for the green roof above the north entrance.

I bet they are really busting their tails this week to get things in decent shape for Monday.

I would love to see their project work plan!

I've been incredibly impressed with the speed, coordination and quality of work. Of course, Devon is paying big bucks to expensive firms to manage all this and are also financing lots of nights and weekend labor.

But in the end, they will be able to stop paying rent all over downtown and receive payment for selling their old building much faster.


I've made this comparison before but Devon was able to go from breaking ground to move-in in about the same amount of time as it takes Chesapeake to build one it's five-story campus structures.
