kevinpate 01-29-2012, 07:55 AM I SOOOO cant wait for the resuraunt. Will all the floors be completed say about September this year? When will all the employees be allowed to move in?
Folks are scheduled to be moving in come this March. I don't recall what's been opined about the opening of the dining in the sky opportunity.

They mentioned it awhile back, if memory serves right, I believe it is opening Sept. 2013
lasomeday 01-29-2012, 09:01 AM They still have a lot of work to do as only one of the triangles has back panels and another has zero front or back.
They need the cranes to complete all that work but the cranes almost certainly have to come down before they can start moving people in.
I'm beginning to wonder if they are going to make their previously-announced March date... That's only a month or two away.
Window company just is not keeping up with construction. They are waiting on windows...

Wow, that seems like a long time.

They need to finish the north and west crown triangles for sure, so they can take the west crane down. That's the one swinging things over employees heads.
metro 01-29-2012, 10:34 AM Wow, that seems like a long time.
I could be wrong, it might have been Sept. 2012, but I think it was 2013. If someone really cares enough, the official response is buried many pages back if someone wants to dig.
They have to finish all the windows before taking the cranes down because the cranes are needed to place each panel.
Also, the main entrance to the south and the entire park/outdoor area is contingent on getting the west crane out of there. It's base sits right by the entrance and in the middle of what will be a water feature. In some of the recent photos you can see them working all around it with back-hoes:

I'm sure lasomeday is right in that the window manufacturer is slow getting them product because they seem to install things pretty quickly once it's on site.

This is what I was alluding to. It looks like they are focusing on all the panels within the west crane's reach first so they can take it down as soon as possible.
I don't believe they'll let people move in with either crane still operating.

The tower is nice,,but GOD..the area immediately around the downtown core is UGLY! (See pic above with the dead plant in the foreground) Telephone wires, poles, flat, nasty, desolate. The tower is like a gem in the middle of a pigsty. Are there any plans to fix this? Oh that nondescript high rise apt tower in the left background looks pretty too. Looks like it belongs in a Soviet apt block. (okay okay i know they cant fix the "flat" part..lol)
Must be talking about MY shot with the dead sunflower off Western by the bridge. You know most things are dead this time of year...
Industrial? Yeah I certainly see a "hum of activity" in this shot. Guess its a testament to the industrial economy in this country, maybe Oklahoma city. I guess that paving company plays a mighty role in the global economy btw. And that chicken shack I guess feeds the workers at the paving company so they can energize the global economy? Also, lots of crappy residential in that shot. Ive seen lots of distance shots of the tower and downtown from ALL sides and the foreground does not look pretty. Are you telling me the core is ringed with old industrial parks? Oh,and maybe that new 16 lane freeway adjacent to these parks and downtown does alot to discourage suburban flight/dollar drain and create a cohesive area? Was this city planned? Build more roads, more lanes , to encourage more sprawl. Don't they have enough of that already? This is just that Houston/LA mentality of no planning and build more freeways to encourage more sprawl.
shawnw 01-29-2012, 02:08 PM North crown, 1/29. Looks like just one more pieces of glass and it will at least LOOK done from the North...

Meh, that JoePDX guy is a joke anyways. He likes to trash on Oklahoma City and the only thing he has said positive about Oklahoma City is that the Devon Tower is pretty.
okcpulse 01-29-2012, 02:54 PM Looks like the north side is now 100% glassed in. Can I get a second pair of eyes for confirmation? This is a major milestone!

I drove by about 20 minutes ago and it is. Technically the north side is only 50% complete because they still have to glass in the back side.

I saw that. Pretty sure it's the east crown sticking out.

Does anyone know if the lamps in the photo are going to be specific to this site or are what the city will be replacing the globe style with?
Those lamps are in the Myriad Gardens and I imagine they are unique, other than perhaps other urban parks.
Mike63 01-29-2012, 08:24 PM I have a nagging question. With the top open and the lower floors being completed how do they keep the rain from running down the interior of the building and ruining the lower floors progress?

50%, they still have to do the backside of the north side.
bucktalk 01-29-2012, 09:13 PM We were driving east on Reno at about May last Thursday at approximately 5:15. At that point of the day the angle of the sun, shining near the top of the Devon Tower, as almost BLINDING! I couldn't believe how powerful and extremely distracting the glare was. I was wondering if this might be a possible problem for those driving east on I-40 during certain times of the day.
OKCisOK4me 01-29-2012, 09:53 PM Sun visors in cars work well.
SSEiYah 01-29-2012, 10:19 PM How are they going to wash the windows? It seems as if the aluminum looking vertical bars (which obtrude from the glass) would get in the way of the window washing sled.

Modern technology will make it easy. Now, who would want to wash windows on the Burj Kalifa or the planned tower in Azerbijan or China, both over (3448 feet, more than 4 Devon Towers tall!!). Could you imagine the wind speed more than a half mile up?

Urbanized 01-31-2012, 02:05 PM If my rough calculations are right, the glass in WTC 1 (at 67 stories as of last week), is currently just slightly above the overall height of Devon Tower. WTC 1 has an average floor height of just over 13 feet, so it squeezes more floors into the same space.

If my calculations are correct, if we can get construction up to 88mph, we can fast forward to MAPS 4

OKCisOK4me 02-01-2012, 01:04 PM Can't deal with the first shot, especially during the day, but that's only because the Chase Tower looks like crap during the day. Great shots though!
Chase is the one building that really does look a lot worse now that Devon is almost finished.
The others are either newer or at least historical and nicely maintained; Chase just looks like an old worn-out 70's style box that hasn't been touched for decades.
It's going to look a lot worse when/if the SandRidge tower is built along with the rumored new building for Main/Hudson and a new convention hotel.

I was attacked a few weeks ago over on skyscraperpage for saying that Chase was an ugly building. At night it's not so bad but in the daytime it's just ugly all around.
adaniel 02-01-2012, 01:51 PM It didn't take the Devon Tower for me to realize it was hideous. Although now that they no longer have the title as the tallest in downtown the ugliness stands out.
Some neon lights along the edge would go a long ways in sprucing that place up. I just don't think the cowboys at the Cotter Ranch really have much skills in urban design.
Teo9969 02-01-2012, 02:02 PM I think the Chase building is MORE palpable now that it's not sticking out as the tallest building in the skyline. I mentioned before that I think it will be a nice change of pace when it's the 4th or 5th tallest building in the skyline.
I agree that some trim lights would help considerably.
