I may have missed it it but since the outside elevators are gone I assume that the internal elevators are fully functional now? Do they have them all working or just a couple for construction purposes?

I'm sure they are all working now, as there is no other way to get to the various floors.

This is probably the most irrelevant question I will ever ask but what picture of OKC do you use?

I actually use 8 different pictures right now. Windows 7 will let you link to a folder containing pictures and it will cycle through them (one every 20 minutes or so). They are all aerials of downtown OKC mostly lifted from OKCTalk. I have 4 taken during the day, 3 at night, and 1 at sunset.

Challenge accepted. I'm actually going up in a couple weeks for a client shoot.

Any chance you had a daytime shot similar to the nighttime one that we were all oohing and ahhing over? Looks like the night shot was taken at about the roof height of the building, so around 850'. I've been dying to photoshop a properly-scaled Devon Tower into the shot below, taken from the Top of Rock observation deck at 30 Rockefeller Center. By coincidence, 30 Rock is 850,' so the vantage point would be fairly similar. I started to use the Devon Tower from your night shot, but it would just look too weird stuck in this daytime view.

The distance between 49th St and 34th is 7/10 of a mile, and it looks like you were about the same from Devon. That angle would be close to perfect.

By my quick calculations (who knows, I might be wrong), Devon would reach the first setback from the main building profile, towering over almost everything in Midtown except the ESB itself (Chrysler, BofA, Citigroup would show up in wider shots). The cabs of the Devon Tower cranes would be close to the roofline of the ESB. That just trips me the heck out.

At 844 feet Devon would be 257 meters, so the difference would be about one ESB floor; considerably less than one Devon floor. Close enough that I'm willing to call it the same height MOL. That's crazy, if you look at that picture.

By the way, my post with the ESB photo in it is the nerdiest post I've ever made here, and that's saying something.

Here's another photo from the Top of the Rock Observatory (850', same basic height as Devon):

Like I've said before, Devon would be a significant building even in Manhattan.

Yeah, that confirms my rough calculation. I didn't have much doubt about that. I just want to see it rooted in Midtown next to the ESB. Personally I think that would be a far more impressive comparison than a schematic where it's the smallest building on the page. Devon would be roughly tied with the 10th-tallest finished building in NYC, a city with thousands of relatively tall structures.

It's not so much how it compares to the ESB, it's how it compares to everything else.

Next Tuesday is dry with a high of 62, so probably 47-53 when you go out for your flight and should be clear. Although a few wisps of clouds would be nice for a background.

That's a great picture, but I do think that they need to demolish the Cox Center and replace it with something more aesthetically pleasing. Just a thought, but maybe the city could extend the canal into that location and give it a proper ending, while building commercial structures or condos around it. Perhapes another tall skyscraper location along the extended canal?

The only reason I can think of to keep Cox is to bid on Big 12 basketball tournaments. They like 2 arenas nearby for men's and women's. Although there's been talk of splitting them up. If they stay together, with Mizzou leaving the conference, OKC has a great case to host both tourneys.

Maybe hockey isn't urban enough.

In a decade, the Cox arena will be leveled and Maps VI will build a great new arena development where the cotton mill is, and the canal will run to the front of it. Blocks will be reclaimed downtown for a 50 story hotel/condo/apartment project and some will still bitch that the new arena will take up too much space near Bricktown. That's what my crystal ball sees

I would love to be on Maps VI in a decade, but Maps IV is probably closer to reality :-/.

And Hockey is super urban ;). The playing field is built right up next to the seats, and the rink is a mixed-use development.

We lost to Tulsa because we don't have anything like Cains, AND the main reason was because the Ford Center was under construction the last 2+ years and the TEMPORARY loss of shows was expected. Plenty of larger cities share NHL/NBA/concerts under the same roof, we are no exception.

Only for 4 months out out of the year. AA Arena in Dallas host NBA, NHL, and concerts all the time. I have previously posted video of AA hosting NBA, NHL, a concert, and a rodeo in 36 hours.

Here is a video of 4 events in 6 days just for an example. These quick change videos are a dime a dozen on youtube.

I remember when the Thunder announced this summer that they would play a pre-season game at the new arena in Wichita, the fans up there were so excited. They were really complaining of having the new InTrust arena I believe it's called, and hardly anything was booked for it.
Then the preseason got cancelled a couple of months later.......and they had one less event to see.

It was China and yeah, it was posted here. I suspect it wont take long for that type of modular construction to creep into the US. It looks very economical.

It is already here. I have worked with contractors who pre build and assemble on site. More speed and less mistakes. But requires full 3d modeling with all engineering. Not all suppliers here provide proper digital drawings to make all this easy.

Are there LEDs on the inside of the crown? I'm guessing there are.

They need the cranes to complete all that work but the cranes almost certainly have to come down before they can start moving people in.
