SoonerAce311 11-28-2011, 07:34 PM Well, name us something else interesting about the Devon Tower that has happened as of recently... LOL
BTW, my Grandma talked to one of the crane operators for Devon a couple days ago. no doubt, LOL
SoonerAce311 11-28-2011, 07:37 PM Maybe this was posted somewhere else, but Kevin Durant's new Nike commercial is great pub for OKC. Great shots of the Devon Tower at the beginning and end:

The entire commercial was shot in OKC. oooooooo very nice
maestro6 11-29-2011, 12:36 PM Don't know if anyone has already posted this, but the 2012 edition of the World Almanac, in their listing of tall buildings in US cities, lists the Devon Tower as 844 feet and 52 stories.

They're correct.

Oh well, a few feet short from the 850, but it's still towers over everything and looks absolutely stunning!
soonerwilliam 11-30-2011, 08:21 AM We lost 81 ft. all together from the original plan. (925'/844')
Bellaboo 11-30-2011, 08:26 AM We lost 81 ft. all together from the original plan. (925'/844')
Steve had posted that the official height was 850 feet. I have read on other boards that the official height is recognized from street curb elevation, due to the fact that most buildings have multiple levels underground.
This could be where the 850 ' comes from.
Just the facts 11-30-2011, 08:26 AM We lost 81 ft. all together from the original plan. (925'/844')
This building is going on a diet.
I am actually glad it is not as tall. It just means they will have to build their next building that much sooner.
Just the facts 11-30-2011, 08:31 AM If Devon wanted an official 850' building they should have built a 850' building, but they didn't. They built a 844' building.
Rover 11-30-2011, 08:50 AM Wow. Who really cares whether it is 844, 850 or 1,000 feet? This isn't grade school and childish bragging rights.
Devon has built a high quality signature building that defines the modern OKC skyline. They built one appropriate to accommodate the size of employee base they want. They invested nearly a billion dollars affirming their intent to permanently reside here. They are a magnet for other investment and movement to downtown. THAT is what is important, not 6 more feet or 60 more feet.

I doubt the "underground levels" are 6 feet total.
Bellaboo 11-30-2011, 09:47 AM I doubt the "underground levels" are 6 feet total.
The underground levels are way more than 6 feet, that's not what I said, I said that AIA states that the official height of a tower comes from the street level elevation of the curb, to the top of the tower. Thus due to buildings having multiple stories below ground, this is how official building heights are defined.
The detailed schematics show the building at 843' 11" from ground level.
There is exactly 100 feet below the surface.
OKCisOK4me 11-30-2011, 10:56 AM Ok so 943' 11". Awesome! Lol

I agree. Devon needs to stop the "official 850 foot" stuff. It makes them look..., well, grade schoolish.

I could be wrong but doesn't Devon recognize the official height as 844-ft?
OKCisOK4me 11-30-2011, 12:29 PM I haven't seen any mention of this on here but while driving on the Crosstown westbound today, I noticed that they're putting windows up on the interior of the SW extremity of the tower, above the main roof.
Just today they've already done more than they have in the past week glass wise. Looks like it won't be too much longer until the glass is completely installed.

I'm not sure if this is a joke somehow or a typo, but there is nowhere near 100 feet below the surface. From the floor of the B2 basement to the floor of the 1st floor its somewhere around 35 feet. I have climbed those stairs hundreds of times and would have noticed. lol
Urbanized 11-30-2011, 06:20 PM Pete's probably talking about the depth of the concrete piers on which the building was constructed. They were sunk pretty deeply, if I recall.
OUSoonerfan3 11-30-2011, 06:32 PM That would make more sense.
The bottom of B2 is 25 feet below ground level.
The 100 feet includes the foundation.

KayneMo 12-01-2011, 01:55 AM Is there a source that can be referenced to so that other info about Devon Tower's height of 844' and 52 floors can be changed on other websites? Such as Wikipedia and SkyscraperPage.

You can see in that photo above that they have started to disassemble one of the construction elevators.

pw405 12-01-2011, 06:01 PM They are testing the LED's on the NE side of the tower right now.

You beat me to it!! I just drove by and saw it too... Looks good! I can't wait to see the whole thing lit up.
Dustin 12-01-2011, 06:41 PM :omg: QUICK! SOMEONE GET A PICTURE OF IT!
pw405 12-01-2011, 06:46 PM I have an extremely hard to see, low quality photo. Don't have a photosharing account set ATM, but I could email to somebody if they would like to post.
Dustin 12-01-2011, 06:57 PM Uploading to imgur is free and as simple as it gets. Are you able to access it?

You can BARELY see the green colored lights. This was taken from the N. Side of the bombing memorial parking lot. I'll try to grab a better photo in a few minutes.
Urban Pioneer 12-01-2011, 07:14 PM :omg: QUICK! SOMEONE GET A PICTURE OF IT!
Got a close up of it and looking for my cable to upload it.
Urban Pioneer 12-01-2011, 07:19 PM Ran two blocks and up to the 10th floor of the parking garage to catch it before they turned them off. They are testing on the the NW corner. Also note that a few of the LED sections are brighter than others for some reason.

So they're green and light blue?
plmccordj 12-01-2011, 07:34 PM You can see it on the webcam also.
Here's a webcam shot:

The system is in the vertical fins and will be capable of creating almost an unlimited amount of colors, plus all types of movement, light changing effects, etc.
It will look very similar to the system used by the Duke Energy building in Charlotte:

Sooo...question...whenever Devon is complete and the LED's are on on a regular basis, will they be on all night or will they only be on at certain times?
I would expect they would be on every night, just probably in a simple display.
I'm sure they'll reserve the wowee stuff for special occasions.
That's how I've been expecting it to be.
pw405 12-01-2011, 08:12 PM Turns out they are testing on both sides, possibly all 3. Couldn't get to the west side to grab a picture:

Thanks so much guys! Nothing much gets past the posters here.
I'm hoping Devon will have the lights at least partially functional for Christmas and/or Opening Night.
We're worse than TMZ on here. LOL
Now showing red... BTW, the lights can be made to be incredibly bright. What we've seen so far has been very low power.

dmoor82 12-01-2011, 08:17 PM With The Devon Tower and Crystal Bridge lighting up the dt sky it would be nice if the other dt buildings upped their game!
The arena now has LED lights along the crown as well.
LED lighting hass become much more affordable and consumes much less energy.
It will be interesting to see what Sandridge does with all it's buildings.
dmoor82 12-01-2011, 08:22 PM ^^I know this might sound silly, but I miss the old Yellow flood lights on the SR Tower,it really lit up that section of the skyline!
With them testing the red and green both in the same night I wouldn't be surprised if they did end up doing something for Christmas.
The testing usually is done with red/green/blue because those are the primary colors in the system.
Previous tests have been similar, so I don't think it has much to do with the holidays.

You always ruin my dreams man. LOL
plmccordj 12-01-2011, 09:03 PM It is white now.
bluedogok 12-01-2011, 09:09 PM We had color changing LED's (Philips Color Kinetics (http://www.colorkinetics.com/)) in my old office in Austin, they are about a third of the price now than when they were installed almost 4 years ago.
Urban Pioneer 12-01-2011, 10:50 PM Yes, Color Kinentics is what we use at our company. It is also what was being planned for on the Skydance Bridge.
They have the LED's on again tonight, not that it's as surprising as last night but still. They turned them on a little bit higher up but not by much.
OKCMacGruber 12-02-2011, 06:22 PM Another shot of LEDs being tested:
