This may sound crazy but everytime something falls and the Devon construction having something to do with it, It makes me question how strong the tower/glass is.

Thunder 10-05-2011, 01:00 PM This may sound crazy but everytime something falls and the Devon construction having something to do with it, It makes me question how strong the tower/glass is. Just you wait until next Spring... Mike63 10-05-2011, 03:31 PM This may sound crazy but everytime something falls and the Devon construction having something to do with it, It makes me question how strong the tower/glass is. Yesterday I was working on a gazebo I am building, I dropped 5 screws while working. Now Imagine that monster tower with all the parts involved, all the people, and a nearly constant breeze blowing. Things happen, they are human too. I think they have done a splendid job considering the scale of the project. UnFrSaKn 10-05-2011, 05:59 PM I'm at Oklahoma City Museum of Art now for that lecture with Jon Pickard. UnFrSaKn 10-05-2011, 08:38 PM It was a wonderful lecture and presentation. Our friend Steve Lackmeyer made it despite having laryngitis. I ended up being the very last person he talked to before he had to go to diner. I wouldn't call it "meeting" because there wasn't a dialogue but got to shake hands. I saw video camera as I walked in, so I hope they recorded it. Steve recorded audio. jn1780 10-05-2011, 09:23 PM That pole could be one of the poles that hold the nets. Great irony there. ljbab728 10-06-2011, 12:37 AM Yesterday I was working on a gazebo I am building, I dropped 5 screws while working. Now Imagine that monster tower with all the parts involved, all the people, and a nearly constant breeze blowing. Things happen, they are human too. I think they have done a splendid job considering the scale of the project. Exactly, Mike. Accidents happen at construction sites despite the most stringent precautions. This has nothing to do with how strong the tower is so there should be no worries or questions about that. SoonerBoy18 10-06-2011, 01:06 PM Yes they have done a GREAT job. metro 10-06-2011, 07:20 PM This may sound crazy but everytime something falls and the Devon construction having something to do with it, It makes me question how strong the tower/glass is. They used to measure large construction projects like this by fatalities. If this is all your worried about, we've done well. Modern building standards have come along ways. Watson410 10-07-2011, 07:38 PM I don't know if anyone noticed it or has already mentioned it, but they have started putting glass up where the constuction elevators are.. MDot 10-07-2011, 08:54 PM I don't know if anyone noticed it or has already mentioned it, but they have started putting glass up where the constuction elevators are.. OKCisOK4me 10-08-2011, 09:32 AM I don't know if anyone noticed it or has already mentioned it, but they have started putting glass up where the constuction elevators are.. They put glass in on the third floor a long time ago. How high are they now, according to your guesstimate? MDot 10-08-2011, 05:15 PM I drove by again today and it looked like they had installed the glass up to the 7th or 8th floor where the construction elevators were. russellc 10-08-2011, 05:53 PM Taken this morning before the rain moved it. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6033/6224050713_ec37f62317_z.jpg http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6217/6224044977_fc9be9e3ea_z.jpg http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6110/6224046737_76f771fdc3_z.jpg http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6220/6224048647_8fb7b4006e_z.jpg More pics to be added later on my Flickr page once I get them edited.http://www.flickr.com/photos/68442632@N04/ dmoor82 10-08-2011, 06:57 PM ^^Wow,great pics! That first one could be on a postcard:) UnFrSaKn 10-08-2011, 08:11 PM I'm not going to do any video updates until there's more progress. Kind of taking a break from it. Dustin 10-08-2011, 08:20 PM You definitely deserve a break.. lol YO MUDA 10-08-2011, 09:05 PM I cant believe how awesome downtown looks. Makes me proud. Thundercitizen 10-08-2011, 09:25 PM Russellc, That first pic is the same one ESPN uses during Thunder games. russellc 10-09-2011, 12:25 AM I got the rest of my pics uploaded from today, (or yesterday now). I am a little disappointed in some of the pictures. The sun was shining in the first pics, and then the clouds came in and everything went grey, and I played with my settings on my camera and forgot to change it back. I had to do a full restore on my computer last week so Photoshop isn't on my computer anymore, and I can't find my cd to put it back. I had to use free software from the internet to edit them to make it look decent, but I think there are a couple of keepers in there. Enjoy! http://www.flickr.com/photos/68442632@N04/ dmoor82 10-09-2011, 01:33 AM ^^russelc, this on gets my votehttp://farm7.static.flickr.com/6110/6224879201_435d3329c8_z.jpg soonerwilliam 10-09-2011, 10:21 AM I agree! Bellaboo 10-11-2011, 01:57 PM If someone has a good camera, there is an excellent view from the Czech Hall bridge over I-40.....early morning and late evening would be great shots. Jesseda 10-11-2011, 02:59 PM may i recommend someone with a good camera to snap some shots from the 5 story parking garage at will rogers world airport!!! its has a great view of downtown UnFrSaKn 10-11-2011, 03:15 PM I'm walking distance from there every day, but I think I got enough shots. Not very motivated lately. If the weather is decent on Wed, I might do a quick video update. A mutual friend tragically died in an car accident Sunday morning in Edmond and it's been on my mind since then, and personal things related to it. SkyWestOKC 10-11-2011, 08:53 PM I'll head up there in the morning after work Pete 10-12-2011, 10:09 AM Cool sunset pic from the Oklahoman: http://photos.newsok.com/2/showimage/1534386/gallery_large?recordView=0 UnFrSaKn 10-12-2011, 12:24 PM Dragged myself out of bed this morning around 8:30 and went and did video. I kind hoped since it stormed last night, that would be my excuse to sleep in and not do anything today. I'm glad I did though. Got a lot of good footage around the Auditorium. They've removed all the concrete barricades around that area and there's a clear view into the work site. Did a little bit of time lapse, but I don't think I'm going to do a whole video anymore. Also got some shots of the front of the Myriad Gardens, Colcord entrance construction and a good shot of the new LED sign on the Chesapeake Arena. I'll try to have it done tonight. It'll probably end up being at last two parts, since I'll put it on YouTube in 1080p. Pete 10-12-2011, 12:31 PM Thanks as always, Will! Happen to notice or get any video of the connection to the Colcord? UnFrSaKn 10-12-2011, 12:35 PM Oh yeah, actually. It's interesting. Can't really describe it, just have to watch the video. UnFrSaKn 10-12-2011, 05:31 PM Probably won't be tonight. I messed around for a while getting this iOS 5 update running on my iPad 2. Had some issues. I've been watching this show Paranormal Witness on SyFy I had never head of. It's like a marathon. Really good show. So, heh I'll work on it tomorrow. I've been watching this show Paranormal Witness on SyFy I had never head of. It's like a marathon. Really good show. So, heh I'll work on it tomorrow.I'm also dealing with iOs 5 on iPad2 and iPhone 4...4S arrives Friday. If you like Paranormal Witness (on after Ghost Hunters on SyFy), you'll probably like Ghost Adventures and Dead Files on the Bio channel Friday nights. I'll echo Pete's thanks for all the audiovisual support you lend this site. Also...my condolences on losing your friend. Lost my only brother in a car wreck 5 years ago. UnFrSaKn 10-12-2011, 07:14 PM Yeah, I've watched those shows for years. Ghost Adventures is my favorite. I can hardly watch Ghost Hunters because of how it's edited and over dramatized. I got iOS 5 to work finally, after getting the "3200 error". Had to delete the backup, then it worked. So... back on topic. I'll have the video up tomorrow probably. SkyWestOKC 10-12-2011, 11:52 PM Here's a shot today from WRWA this morning. Would be perfect if FNC was fully visible. dankrutka 10-13-2011, 01:02 AM So, what are they working on now on the tower? Is glass going in? Structrual issues? Interior? Without seeing floors go up it's more difficult to know what's going on... Thunder 10-13-2011, 03:28 AM My next trip will be in the evening, somewhat close to sunset, on Monday, which is my birthday. I'm going to drag mom out there and walk around the usual steps getting pictures during sunset eventually to when its dark enough to record some lights happening around Myriad Gardens. Restaurant recommendation in the immediate areas? Which parking garages are we allowed to enter and go up to the top? I assume the new parking garage is for Devon employees only? But could anyone just walk in there and walk to the top? I want some new angles to provide on here. I'm not sure about the river and lake, my phone won't zoom that far clearly. Thunder needs a guide. :LolLolLol (Pete, you're the brain man of it all. Make sure I am in great security if you do assign someone with me.) UnFrSaKn 10-13-2011, 08:07 AM The area where the bucket hoist is, they're installing glass. It still works all the way to the bottom, just doesn't stop until halfway up. They've got orange safety guards on the crown. The area around the Auditorium no longer has concrete barricades. lasomeday 10-13-2011, 08:09 AM My next trip will be in the evening, somewhat close to sunset, on Monday, which is my birthday. It was still taped off yesteday. kevinpate 10-13-2011, 08:36 AM Thunder, last time I went to MBG in the evening I just parked on the street along the south side. Was only about two or three car lengths from the south entrance plaza. But that was after 8:30 so it might not as accessible in the fall since sunlight ends earlier. Can't tip you on the parking garages. When I use one, it's the one north of the county bldg., or over in BT, and i rarely use either of those. dankrutka 10-13-2011, 03:09 PM I was there yesterday! Yes, remember this: I've got some information coming out at OKC Central — All about downtown OKC about tomorrow's coverage of the Devon tower designs. But the long and short of it is I plan to have designs posted asap. -Steve UnFrSaKn 10-16-2011, 03:21 AM Sorry this took so long. This week has been emotional and difficult since I heard of the loss of a mutual friend a week ago on Sunday. The funeral was Friday and very powerful. It's had a big impact on me. It's put things back into perspective for me. Honestly, the documentation I've done on this construction project over the past year just boils down to a distraction. It's helped keep my mind off of personal issues that I need to face. The legacy of the girl who died in Edmond has been a powerful reminder of what my real passions are, that goes back almost thirteen years ago. To be honest, I'm not feeling it anymore, in regards to being committed to doing these videos. I've wrestled with it internally the entire time. I don't know how many more I'm going to invest my time and effort into doing. I need to focus all my attention on much more important matters. It's been a fun ride though. Anyway, here's video I should have had done earlier. Cowboy 10-17-2011, 12:55 AM William, I really appreciate and have enjoyed your videos over the past year or so. I don't know if you're a professional videographer or not, but you do an excellent job on your videos. Keep up the quality work in whatever you endeavor to do. Thanks for the memories of the Devon Tower construction... Pete 10-17-2011, 10:25 AM Yes, thanks so very much Will! Especially for taking the trouble to get some good footage of the Colcord work. How do they get from that catwalk to the top of the crown? |
