MDot, here is the last video that I did of a drive-by back in June. I don't know if I did another video after this one or not, but I did post a whole bunch of pictures last month or so. Pretend you are driving. :-)

Yes, the tower is a lot closer than shown in video. In that video, it was first time to do it on my Samsung Epic. Another video before that was with Samsung Exclaim. Anyway, I didn't zoom in to proper distance.

The very first video of the drive-by. We can see what our skyline used to be while cruising down on I-40.

These was done with Samsung Exclaim.

The night pictures was about a month ago through an app that I forgot to set the file quality for it.

Well it was only a matter of time before someone stopped me from doing video at St. Anthony Hospital. Security came and kicked me out. How many times have I gotten that shot now? So would-be videographers beware. They expect you to check in with Planning and Marketing on the 4th floor of the main building every time. Who has time for that when you have a narrow window of time to deal with? This will effect whether I go there in the future.

Are you talking about the vantage point on top of their parking garage is where you were kicked out? I've also been asked to not shoot from there, or even go up there just to get a view of the skyline. I don't even have anything remotely professional looking either. I wouldn't be too upset about it; you may have done nothing wrong, but on the flip-side, neither have they.

It all depends on how comfortable you are with confrontation. If a building is open to the public you can take all the pictures you want. At most, they can charge you with trespassing but they would have to call a police officer to do that and most likely when the police officer shows up he will simply ask you to leave. At that point you leave and problem solved. Or you can talk to whomever they said to talk to and let them know you want to take pictures of downtown. Chances are you are not the target of the inquiry, just a victim of circumstance. It is the same reason the TSA gropes 6 year old boys and 80 year old women. I’ll you decide which one you more closely resemble.

One time I asked them for permission and they took me inside to the security desk. Once in there they took me to some public affairs office and they told me no. Under no circumstances am I allowed to take pictures from their property because they already had a company on contract to do photos. I was nice to them and left but I have been back many times without asking. I usually make it quick and then leave.

Have you considered that a hospital has legitimate concerns about patient privacy? I know, I know - you were just getting pics of buildings! But these people must protect the privacy of patients, and they can't do it with people running around all over their hospital building with a video camera. Next time you are a patient, I think you will appreciate the hospital policy

You bet! Patients do get into and out of their cars on a regular basis and tabloid photographers just love to snap those pictures. I know full well that you guys aren't going to abuse anyone, but the hospital must have a policy covering everybody.

You can take pictures anywhere that is open to the public. No one has a right to privacy where no reasonable expectation of privacy exist. That includes parking garages. Like I said, it all comes down to how much confrontation you are comfortable with. UnFrSaKn could have just said go ahead and call the cops. The worst the cops can do is ask him to leave, and he did that anyhow. The police are not going to arrest someone for taking pictures from a parking garage because it isn't against the law. Just because a hospital has a 'policy' doesn't mean it is against the law. This is right up there with private parking lots that issue parking ticket. You don't have to pay those either; they are not a law enforcment agency

Actually, you have the freedom of the press on all public areas unless there are ordinances against it or signs posted. The freedom of the press does not exist on private property, which would be a hospital.

Kerry, would you be okay with me walking up to your house, and standing on your porch taking pictures of the surrounding? Unless it's fenced in, technically your property is open to the public. (Not including the house) That's called trespassing. If the property owner or those working under the authority of the property owner ask you to leave for whatever reason, you must leave immediately. If you are on public property, no one can tell you to leave, not even a police officer -- unless you are harassing someone with your photography (Stalking, etc.)

SkyWestOKC
09-09-2011, 09:55 AM
And to add, police officers are not even allowed on your property unless they are there with a warrant, or were called upon to be there. If a police officer knocks on your door, no warrant in hand and no complaint, you can tell him to get off your property, and he must do it. Not recommending trying that, but it makes a point.

Just the facts

Trespassing is illegal - but taking the pictures isn't. There is no law against taking pictures. But the assertion was that a right to medical privacy exists in a parking garage; it does not.

SkyWestOKC
09-09-2011, 10:18 AM
Well, in order to take pictures on private property, you must trespass. Not sure what your logic is there. It's up to the property owner to call you out on trespassing, and they do not require a police officer to remove you unless you do not leave when asked.

It looks that way and it does appear I was mistaken in how the crown would come together. It appears the glass will be affixed to the yellow beams and the gap between the yellow frame and the concrete floors will be an open air atrium as Pete said. I still think it would have been a cooler design to install the glass along the concrete and leave the yellow beams open air on the outside of the building. Oh well.

I imagine there will be walls and a glass ceiling enclosing the area directly above the three gaps. Otherwise the building would not be completely enclosed.

Well, that wasn't what I was suggesting but thanks for playing anyhow. I was only theorizing about the placement of glass in relation to the yellow beams (i.e. would the glass follow the contour of the concrete behind the yellow beams or be attached directly to the yellow beams).

Since the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks is Sunday, I thought it would be interesting to see how the World Trade Center looks compared to Devon Tower and the rest of downtown Oklahoma City in SketchUp:

From the NW:
http://i51.tinypic.com/2d003yo.jpg

From the S/SE:
http://i56.tinypic.com/oqk943.jpg

And an elevation from the E:
http://i52.tinypic.com/103v2c5.jpg

The WTC, especially the Twin Towers, were incredibly massive. The whole complex had right around 12 million square feet of office space! 1 WTC was 1,368' tall (1,727' with antenna), and 2 WTC was 1,362'. If even 7 WTC were placed in OKC, it would be the 2nd tallest skyscraper in the city at 610'!

I also want to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who were affected by the 9/11 attacks. I still remember that morning in my 5th grade class as if it just happened. I can't believe it's been 10 years already..

What is the building in the third pic that's tall and skinny? Just to the right of your WTC... a smidge taller than Chase? Can't be 7 cause 7 was a long (width) building. If its Sandridge, your dimensions are a wee bit off. Otherwise, I dig em.

My girlfriend and I were trying to compare the Devon Tower to the Twin Towers to her 11 year old son. Now I can use these renderings as a reference!

NO more diagrams like this!! J/K Makes the Devon Tower look average and Oklahoma City's other building's like huts. Honestly though, I do like diagrams similar to this one. Lastly, I wish they would of made Two World Trade Center's peak height parallel with One World Trade Center's spire, I absolutely love the design of Tower Two.
