UnFrSaKn 08-18-2011, 04:52 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yDpPCztu4g Thunder 08-18-2011, 04:53 PM Phenomenal job, William. Those guys working on the steel beams sure look tiny!!! :-O Milan 08-18-2011, 10:04 PM it sure does not look like they will reach full heighth by the end of the month. jn1780 08-18-2011, 10:42 PM it sure does not look like they will reach full heighth by the end of the month. Some of that steel may be at full height if not close to it. Looks like more steel will go directly in front of the steel already installed. Edit: Yeah, it looks like the top of that steel is the very top of the building judging from the diagram Pete posted. Finally got my hands on a detailed drawing and can confirm the final height of the building will be 844 feet. More specific details: Levels 1-6: 20 feet Levels 7-46: 14 feet 8 inches Levels 47-50 (will be labeled 47, 49, 50 and 51): 19 feet 6 inches Crown (labeled 52): 59 feet 3 inches Not counting the first steel going in for the crown, we are at 784 feet currently: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/devoncross2.jpg OKC@heart 08-19-2011, 12:01 AM Regarding the Yellow steel columns & Beams that span the openings at the inverted triangle upon close inspection thanks to the video William so graciously provided, seem to confirm to me that they are likely not temporary in nature as they were manufactured for that specific size and opening and are in and of themselves steel structural elements that I believe to be Fire proofed with Intumescent Paint. This is only a guess but I think that there is far too much steel and detail in the connections that they make with the concrete structure for them to be anything else, in my opinion. Steel in this case would allow for a much clearer view out rather than much larger and deeper concrete beam sections that would have been required had it been used there. As was stated earlier time will tell for sure, but I thought that I would throw in my observation. I do not know however why they would have chosen yellow for the color of the intumescent paint as you can do quite a number of colors that would be less stark, such as grey, black or white even. That is the one area of weakness that my theory has, unless they are intending to clad the members in some other decorative finish or conceal in another way. But then I would think you opt for another method (less expensive) fireproofing. Either way it will be interesting to see the answer revealed to us as it progresses. earlywinegareth 08-19-2011, 06:17 AM From William's video - those dudes welding way on top of the steel framework - holy cow! NERVES OF STEEL. Would enjoy seeing an interview on them. Thunder 08-19-2011, 06:34 AM Does anyone know if Devon is within the digital age? I want to contact the Management/Administration, but they only have landline telephone contact. No email. Does anyone have an email contact to them? Just the facts 08-19-2011, 09:04 AM I do not know however why they would have chosen yellow for the color of the intumescent paint as you can do quite a number of colors that would be less stark, such as grey, black or white even. That is the one area of weakness that my theory has, unless they are intending to clad the members in some other decorative finish or conceal in another way. When yellow beams are illuminated at night they make a pretty dramatic effect. These are the yellow cables of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge illuminated at night. If the lights moved it would look like a flame. http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/talk/sites/tampabay.com.blogs.talk/files/images/typepad-legacy-files/47281.6a00d83451b05569e20120a6b37c22970b-450wi.jpg This is what they look like during the day. http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/talk/sites/tampabay.com.blogs.talk/files/images/typepad-legacy-files/47281.6a00d83451b05569e20120a6a025a9970b-450wi.jpg kevinpate 08-19-2011, 10:05 AM Does anyone know if Devon is within the digital age? It is quite a sight !! :dizzy: DelCamino 08-19-2011, 11:23 AM Thanks Pete....I've been trying to figure out the placement. Pete 08-19-2011, 12:52 PM You can now see on the construction cam that they are in the process of erecting the same sort of structure on the north side. I assume they will do this on all three sides then start to fill in the taller pieces. yukong 08-19-2011, 01:09 PM Looks somewhat like they are erecting grandstands on the roof. Now that would be cool. A new arena in the sky for the Thunder. BB37 08-19-2011, 03:44 PM Looks somewhat like they are erecting grandstands on the roof. Now that would be cool. A new arena in the sky for the Thunder. That would give a whole new meaning to the phrase "nosebleed seats." Steve 08-19-2011, 03:52 PM Lets take a moment to reflect back on history. It was four years, one month, and eleven days ago when Pete first broke the news to us. http://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=10593 Wow..... yeah, it was a groundbreaking day when that happened indeed. I can picture that day as if it was the very first post on the thread you just posted.... dmoor82 08-19-2011, 05:08 PM This photo courtesy of Alonzo Adams photgraphy(http://archive.alonzoadamsphotography.com/image/I0000RiOS3ANnzqc) shows the rotunda's glass clear at the top but not at the bottom,I wonder if all the glass will be clear like the renderings?I remember a disscussion here last week about the dissapointment about the rotunda glass.http://alonzoadamsphoto.photoshelter.com/img/pixel.gif (http://alonzoadamsphoto.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Devon-Energy-Center-Tower/G00009ymp9hcj6mY/I0000RiOS3ANnzqc) dankrutka 08-19-2011, 05:53 PM This photo courtesy of Alonzo Adams photgraphy(http://archive.alonzoadamsphotography.com/image/I0000RiOS3ANnzqc) shows the rotunda's glass clear at the top but not at the bottom,I wonder if all the glass will be clear like the renderings?I remember a disscussion here last week about the dissapointment about the rotunda glass.http://alonzoadamsphoto.photoshelter.com/img/pixel.gif (http://alonzoadamsphoto.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Devon-Energy-Center-Tower/G00009ymp9hcj6mY/I0000RiOS3ANnzqc) That glass is all the same. There's just different structures inside of it that make it appear more translucent on the top. Watson410 08-19-2011, 11:39 PM I think you may have posted the wrong picture, all the glass in the picture you posted is all the same tint... and also, That's not a rendering. dmoor82 08-20-2011, 12:08 PM I think you may have posted the wrong picture, all the glass in the picture you posted is all the same tint... and also, That's not a rendering. No, its the right pic,and I know thats not a rendering! metro 08-20-2011, 12:34 PM This photo courtesy of Alonzo Adams photgraphy(http://archive.alonzoadamsphotography.com/image/I0000RiOS3ANnzqc) shows the rotunda's glass clear at the top but not at the bottom,I wonder if all the glass will be clear like the renderings?I remember a disscussion here last week about the dissapointment about the rotunda glass.http://alonzoadamsphoto.photoshelter.com/img/pixel.gif (http://alonzoadamsphoto.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Devon-Energy-Center-Tower/G00009ymp9hcj6mY/I0000RiOS3ANnzqc) I mentioned last week, the entire rotunda appears clear glass from most angles, but from certain angles, gives the ILLUSION that it is same as the tower and garden wing because of the reflection. Rover 08-20-2011, 12:37 PM I mentioned last week, the entire rotunda appears clear glass from most angles, but from certain angles, gives the ILLUSION that it is same as the tower and garden wing because of the reflection. Any help would be welcome. UnFrSaKn 08-20-2011, 04:15 PM http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/webcam/DevonConstructionCam.jpg holm1231 08-20-2011, 04:36 PM Hey guys!!! Go to unforsakens video and go to 1:17 and pause it or look at his 5th picture that he posted. Look at the idention on floor 46 and 47, the concrete floors in the indention is different then the rest.. They are stacked or zig zagging. holm1231 08-20-2011, 04:37 PM Yeah go to the fifth picture of unforsakens pictures. Dustin 08-20-2011, 04:46 PM That is really weird.... I wonder why it's like that... Urbanized 08-20-2011, 06:27 PM There's probably a steel stairwell or some other structure that flows between those three floors for whatever reason, surely to do with the function of those particular floors. clz46 08-20-2011, 09:32 PM OKC@heart, I have to click on "reload" to get the most current picture. Hope that does it for you. Mike63 08-20-2011, 10:31 PM Also when looking at that 5th picture you can see the under side structure of the floors change. I like the really close shots like that! SoonerBoy18 08-21-2011, 01:37 PM Can someone change the skyline photo on wikipedia to the one above, Its soooo much more attracting Flat Earth Society 08-21-2011, 03:26 PM The rotunda is cool, but it's going to be LOUD in there during a hailstorm. Hope that glass is thick. shawnw 08-21-2011, 09:34 PM Amazing progress up top in a short period of time. 8/19/11 https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ipB2m4GzBSk/TlG9ih_oipI/AAAAAAAAN9Y/q1E-uiKmmh8/116_5083.jpg 8/21/11 https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-P-_wPzVBSbs/TlG9ioBhx8I/AAAAAAAAN9c/C9txYXpkq7E/116_5086.jpg SoonerBoy18 08-22-2011, 05:19 PM As I was on the Country Club bridge in El Reno, Okla. I tried looking towards OKC and I think i may have seen the Devon tower all the way from where i live, I was focusing real hard lol. SoonerAce311 08-22-2011, 08:50 PM Excellent SoonerBoy18, that's pretty cool. I would bet that you did see it! metro 08-22-2011, 09:20 PM I'm sure he did. You can easily see it from Hwy 81 near Minco,Oklahoma, which is even further shawnw 08-22-2011, 09:30 PM Driving back from Shawnee Sunday morning I could see the very top from about Peebly Rd. SoonerBoy18 08-22-2011, 10:51 PM Yeah Im 100% I saw it, I cant wait to see how far it will be visable at midnight, From Country Club Bridge at night you can pretty much see all the lights in Yukon, Mustang and Okla.City and it looks amazing BG918 08-22-2011, 10:53 PM It's very visible (and all of downtown) from Hwy 9 in Newcastle. As soon as football season starts I'll get a pic from OU's stadium upper deck. Great view of the tower from there, with the campus in the foreground. mrktguy29 08-23-2011, 08:53 PM http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l527/mrktguy29/Crown823.jpg Looks like they are adding the highest portions of the crown on the SW side. Took this photo today about 7:30pm. shawnw 08-23-2011, 10:53 PM http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l527/mrktguy29/Crown823.jpg Looks like they are adding the highest portions of the crown on the SW side. Meant to grab the binoculars or camera to get a closer look but got distracted... mburlison 08-24-2011, 07:54 AM I thought something looked strange when I glanced out the window after getting home from work. Meant to grab the binoculars or camera to get a closer look but got distracted... Does that mean an Evergreen tree at the top is not far away? :) shawnw 08-24-2011, 08:35 AM So this is what it looks like from the side. Blends into the contour of the building now... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UynFsAgtZZg/TlT8N2g3iPI/AAAAAAAAN-g/PLsfLP5iPHM/s640/106_5088.jpg 8/24/11 Pete 08-24-2011, 09:27 AM Thanks for the photos guys! Jesseda 08-24-2011, 10:01 AM With this almost complete I wonder when the rumored next huge downtown building project will be announced? anymore news on this rumor? dmoor82 08-24-2011, 08:47 PM WTH how did you get up there?I think you have the best pics so far,and would look very nice on SSC or SSP! Thunder 08-24-2011, 09:25 PM Yeah, I was gonna ask that question! How the hell?!?! Could you do the same for me and William, so we can go up there??? Dustin 08-24-2011, 09:26 PM Ya. It definitely all makes sense now after driving by it today. You can really get a sense of what the final outcome will look like. Dulahey 08-24-2011, 09:26 PM Very nice. earlywinegareth 08-24-2011, 09:30 PM Whoa...if I were up there this song would be going thru my mind the whole time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4BBQMjbX3c Skyline 08-24-2011, 09:31 PM The ABSOLUTE BEST Pics I have seen!! You realize that you have taken pics from a perspective that has never been taken before of Okc?? dmoor82 08-24-2011, 09:36 PM Seeing ariel views like that shows you how much infill OKC needs.....alot!BG918,do you have a pic of the medical district or Deep Deuce from that same vantage point? bluedogok 08-24-2011, 09:40 PM I have connections. I knew that was the answer...... Thunder 08-24-2011, 09:43 PM I'm sitting here and just absolutely dying!!! Devon have shown that they are capable of allowing ordinary citizens to enter the zone and go up the tower. I'd really like for that to be done for me and William. Heck, I'd take along SkyWestOKC with me. LOL! I really want to do a video of going up and down on the elevator to the very top and do a bunch of pictures. It'll be priceless! What ya think, Matt? jn1780 08-24-2011, 09:46 PM I don't know about the Devon site, but any other construction site you can walk anywhere as long as you wear a yellow vest, safety glasses, and a hard hat. No one would stop you if you acted like you belong there. Not that you should do it. LOL dmoor82 08-24-2011, 09:48 PM Thunder,I hate to burst your bubble but You and I will not see the inside of that tower untill the resturant opens!Who knows if BG918 is an "ordinary" citizen or an employee, and if he were why would he tell us? |
