Just the facts 07-20-2011, 10:57 PM photobucket.com is free.
I use photobucket. It's free, is easy to upload images from your computer, and there is a free Android app for uploading images from your phone.
mcca7596 07-20-2011, 11:29 PM And so anything from another site or forum that's not copyrighted can be pulled to your desktop then uploaded to the host site? Thanks for the info.
Thunder 07-20-2011, 11:33 PM I drove by it today and can really see the nice curve. It appears to me that they are still pouring in concrete.
BoulderSooner 07-21-2011, 07:17 AM from john williams .. the floor at the start of the V is the 49th floor .. making the 50th a completed level and they are now working on 51 ..

Do you mean the floor just under the start of the V? The bucket hoist shows that to be the 47th.
OKCisOK4me 07-21-2011, 10:34 AM Yeah, why would the composer from Star Wars know anything about the Devon Tower, anyway?
Mike63 07-21-2011, 11:11 AM Does anybody have any idea what the current height is?
king183 07-21-2011, 12:42 PM Is the street going to be re-opened once exterior construction is completed on the tower and the auditorium? Or are they waiting until it's all done, landscape and all, in early 2012?
SOONER8693 07-21-2011, 12:43 PM Whatever height it is and whatever height it is gonna be, it is a freakin MONSTER. People in and driving through OKC will remember it for a long time. It is the ICONIC structure OKC has needed for a long, long time.
OKCisOK4me 07-21-2011, 02:11 PM Is the street going to be re-opened once exterior construction is completed on the tower and the auditorium? Or are they waiting until it's all done, landscape and all, in early 2012?
That will be based on where that portion of street is in the lineup for Project 180 transformation.

Sheridan is going to be redone as part of Project180 before it opens again. I would imagine the construction on it can't start until everything but the landscaping is done on the tower, because of the amount of trucks that have to come in everyday to the site.
OKCisOK4me 07-21-2011, 02:12 PM Nice answer mcca ;-)
SoonerAce311 07-21-2011, 03:17 PM yeah sure Mike63, i've studied the computer models that we have here on the site and from the start of the V taper that is 760ft. So right now, if we counted the current worked on 50th floor height would be 820ft after its done. Then we still have the two mechanical floors and the rest of the crown to go.

Then it looks like Devon need to get the fact straight and put out the correct height to the media.
SoonerAce311 07-21-2011, 07:06 PM but the deal is how much of the crown are they going to use up with the mechanical floors? Is the crown going to be open 40ft or 60ft? Are they making the mechanical floors before the open crown area? It is going to be exciting to see
ljbab728 07-22-2011, 01:08 AM Then it looks like Devon need to get the fact straight and put out the correct height to the media.
Why?
SkyWestOKC 07-22-2011, 10:30 AM People are too obsessed with this building. This shouldn't be the only reason why someone would think OKC is coming around, or not coming around. It's a fantastic building, and I agree, if it were 650 feet tall I'd be equally impressed.
This combined with all the public and private development that has happened in the past 10 years, combined with the confirmed development over the next 10 years, and beyond. Downtown will be amazing.
The tower will be 850 feet, give or take 5-10 feet.
I'm sure the exact height won't be known until the building tops out next month.
Troypin 07-22-2011, 11:39 AM omg!! cant wait to see the crown finished!!!!!!!!!! it allready looks pretty cool.
Jesseda 07-22-2011, 11:41 AM thanks pete for letting curious people know that it is still going to be 850. Moving to my question, will this building have changing lights that will change color for christmas time and stuff like that, I remember hearing or reading something about it, I know crystal bridge had a neat video of multiple colors, will the devon be the same?
Troypin 07-22-2011, 11:43 AM OH YEA one question. wats the diffrence between LED lights and regular lights?
Regarding the lighting, there will be significant LED installations in the three indentions running vertically up the building and a bunch more in the crown. It will have an unlimited amount of colors with tons of motion effects that can be programmed.
Troy, LED is just a type of lighting that is more energy efficient and generally quite bright.
Troypin 07-22-2011, 11:59 AM thank u pete, and im really woundering wat it will look like during christmas. maybe it will change from red to green to ummm......red again lol
earlywinegareth 07-22-2011, 12:04 PM Speaking of the LEDs...you know it's going to be an incredible sight...and what worries me is how long before someone has a wreck on I-40 then sues Devon because they were distracted by the lighting?
The lighting should look very similar to this, the Duke Energy Center in Charlotte:
tplx2CIuHfc
Troypin 07-22-2011, 12:13 PM That..is..freaking awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you explain what and where the three indentions are? Sounds like the whole glass/windows won't be covered?
Thunder, I mean the three deep grooves running up and down the length of the building.
Thunder 07-22-2011, 12:45 PM Thunder, I mean the three deep grooves running up and down the length of the building.
Okay. I was hoping it be covered all around like the gardens tube out there.
Thunder 07-22-2011, 02:14 PM How far along are they on installing the lights? I know a long time ago they started to install and do tests, so have they been installing among the windows or behind on that?
OKCisOK4me 07-22-2011, 02:54 PM How far along are they on installing the lights? I know a long time ago they started to install and do tests, so have they been installing among the windows or behind on that?
Most likely the window panels are numbered and have specific slots they attach to, so the windows you see there now in the indentations are the windows that will be lit with the LED runners in them.
SoonerAce311 07-22-2011, 03:06 PM I understand what you're saying Thunder. It does matter how tall it is for statistical and "putting us on the map" purposes with competing with the big boys like New York City, Chicago, LA, Dallas and around the world. We needed the tower to be as tall as it can be, and I would really prefer the 925 version easily if not over a 1000ft. I would not be as impressed if it was 650, cause that wouldn't be much taller than Chase, and we really just need a tower like our Devon Tower to just dominate (which it will) and be like our World Trade Center was to NYC, like the Sears Tower (Willis tower now) does to Chicago. Thats why i was pressing for the 925 if not 1000. We got to raise the bar! and we are with Devon. Its a great start.
Troypin 07-22-2011, 03:08 PM i wounder wat would happen if a tornado or some powerful wind comes and blows out all the windows. hope they have others just like them
How far along are they on installing the lights? I know a long time ago they started to install and do tests, so have they been installing among the windows or behind on that?
The LED lighting is embedded in the window panels, so where you see glass, they are already wired for lighting.
Just heard they will be doing a test soon so I'll alert people when I know so we can try to get some video.
UnFrSaKn 07-22-2011, 03:25 PM As far as lighting, I think if it slowly pulsed a solid color, it would have a great impact. If you sped it up on time lapse it would pulse really fast. Perhaps maybe a line that slowly crawled up and down the tower or faded into several colors.

Yeah, I'm thinking light blue. Like TRON.

Really 16.7 million colors :Smiley259
Most use a DMX controller which allows all sorts of programming options. The Philips Color Kinetics (http://www.colorkinetics.com/) lights are the ones that I have used on a few projects. Lightwild (http://www.lightwild.com/lw_accent.asp) is a Kansas City based firm which has some of the large installations (like the O2 World Arena in Berlin) and some very nice products.

The Yas Marina Hotel in Abu Dhabi has a mesh of color changing LED lights over the hotel which straddles the Yas Marina Formula 1 circuit.

SWOkie66 07-23-2011, 10:54 AM We interrupt this childish bickering to bring you this announcement...looks like they're washing the windows on the Oklahoma Tower.
Anyone have any new pics of DT from different vantage points than the web cam? With the activity slowing down due to the crown construction, there just isn't much to see.
UnFrSaKn 07-23-2011, 07:38 PM I'm in Bricktown meeting some out of town friends. They are raising the East crane as I type. Didn't bring the video camera. Got more important things going on.
OKCisOK4me 07-23-2011, 10:28 PM Watching Die Hard (and its been in many other movies), will the Devon Tower have a helicopter pad on top of it?

Unless their are secrete plans for the peak of the building to open, then their is not enough flat space to do so.

See the time-laps video of the east crane being raised (7.23.11) Youtube (http://goo.gl/YldgP) ... Raising starts about 1/2 in the video (4:30pm)

Or they could put it on the side of the building like they do in Dubai.

I bet they go through a lot of tennis balls. So stupid and impractical, but so is half the things they do in that country.

Thunder 07-24-2011, 11:18 PM Drove around Downtown today and took some really nice pictures. Photobucket resized them, but should look great. There was something about the tower...there was glows of different colors on it (hard to see in pix). Not sure if they were subtly testing the lights...somehow...or it was the sunset. Best pictures that I have taken other than the drive-by videos.
Pictures taken in order from the bottom toward upward.

I was told that Devon looked at doing LED over the whole building but scaled it back to the grooves and crown due to cost.
I believe the panels they used throughout had the capability to run LED but that wasn't done on all of them.
Just the facts 07-25-2011, 12:26 PM Dumb @*! Could you imagine the liability if they had hit someone?
Thanks to Mythbusters, being hit by a tennis ball from 1000 feet would cause minimal damage, if any at all. It could hit you in the head and while it might startle you, it wouldn't cause much more than a headache, if it even did that. Terminal velocity on a tennis ball is slower than you can throw it at someone. It would be moving at 58 mph at impact. A tennis serve is going well over 100 mph.
Bunty 07-25-2011, 12:59 PM WTH?!?! No rails??? You couldn't pay me to go up there!!
Not me. I'd gladly pay money to wander about the world's highest tennis court. If you lose your balance and fall over, the nets will catch you.
Mike63 07-25-2011, 02:49 PM Not me. I'd gladly pay money to wander about the world's highest tennis court. If you lose your balance and fall over, the nets will catch you.
The fall won't kill you just the sheer terror and heart attack!
Mike63 07-25-2011, 02:52 PM I thought I read somewhere that the Willis tower has these glass appendages built onto it to draw more people to the tower. They apparently have glass walls and floors. Devon could do that at the very top for the adrenaline junkies.
