And it needs to be that way on a more regular basis. I sure hope those apartments get built in the old Meineke building on Main; Bricktown needs more residents!!!

It would be cool if there were stores in that alley.

I agree,Little novelty shops, bars, gelatto or ice cream shop would do wonders!I would also like to see more street vendors and street performers!

Exactly, like on a Tuesday night in the dead of winter when there are no sporting events. I sure hope we are close to critical mass.

And yes, street performers as well! I feel ya! lol

By the way, I've been driving southbound on Harvey to the parking garage in the morning, and I don't recall if the intent is to leave it 2 way or not, but I hope they do - the view coming down the hill is great.

What floor are they working on now and what's the height (approx.)?

The floor right below the concrete V is 47, so they're currently working on 50.

Sorry if people have seen this already. I was cleaning a car and there was a crumpled up map. I normally throw these away without thinking much. It was the last car at the end of the day, so I wasn't in a hurry so I folded it up. I never noticed until then it was a new map. This is what caught my eye...

Anyone ever see actual images anywhere, and not scanned? High resolution?

The map has www.DowntownOKC.com (http://www.downtownokc.com/), okcchamber.com (http://www.okcchamber.com/), okc.gov (http://www.okc.gov/) and okccvb.org (http://www.visitokc.com/) websites on it.

Haven't seen it, but it must be from a year, or so, ago. The DT looks a tad too tall IMO. The height estimate was probably made a while back...probably before it was verified that LEDs were going to be apart of the nighttime experience. My guess is early April 2010. Early playoff games last year; based on signage atop the ol' Kerr McGee building.
I could be wrong.

Looked over the map...

Printed 5/2011

It's not a bad map at all. Has all the Districts color-coded. Even has the "FUTURE I-40 (2012)" highway route. Has certain main attractions as black silhouettes. The boathouses, etc.

I really like the top picture with the word "MAP" on it. Devon Tower looks marvelous with the reds, oranges, yellows, and blues: it's be the last building in Oklahoma City the sunset touches.

Looking at Sid's pic that he posted on July 3rd, it looks like, beyond this week, there's still four rows of glass windows to be built on top of this week's current "under construction" floor. I think this floor (this week) is the last to be done in concrete and the rest will be done with steel beams. Can't believe it's almost topped out!

The roof of which building?

If you mean the auditorium or garden wing, they are probably installing a green roof (with plants) as part of the LEED certification.

Yes, Doug. According to reports there will be a restaurant available to the the public at the top of the tower.

Which is the primary reason they hired John Williams and brought over Chef Andrew Black from the Skirvin.

They must plan to have the rotunda and lobby and a few of the lower floors completely done by then.

So there aren't plans to cover up the concrete columns on the exterior of the bottom portion of the tower, right? The renderings make it seem as if they'll stay as is, but the lack of polish on them makes it seem as if there is still something waiting to cover them up.

I'm normally out doing video now... but it looks really overcast to me. I got up too late and didn't set a clock. I was out yesterday for about six hours. Still, even then if you do time lapse you get very little video sometimes. It was a bit too cloudy yesterday. For some reason the buildings downtown were shielded by clouds while everywhere else was in bright sunlight. I was in Midtown quite a bit, just waiting. I still got some good stuff. All that time and effort, and you might only get one really good shot.

That's still pretty good, compared to early estimates of employees moving in, were late 2012, but I am sure they will do it in phases...

Driving home just now I saw the awesome reflection of the sunset. It looked similar to the picture on the map that UnFrSaKn posted; gradient from blue to yellow to orange to red. It was an awesome sight indeed.

Plus the other buildings downtown were in the same light. So unlike the map picture, all the buildings were matching with the same light being cast on them.

Checked out the area where the Devon Tower/Colcord connection is supposed to go today. There's an exit area that seems to come off the 6-story garden wing, or whatever it's called, and then a wood fence covering something between DT and Colcord that seems to be where any tunnel, or above-ground connection is going. You can't see the entry point on the Colcord. I think I'm looking at it right (view image by itself for larger view):

http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/1020/jpegimage1600x1200pixel.png

http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/9321/photo1hy.jpg

Oh, and the area in front of the Colcord is CHAOS. The hotel entry is on the SW corner right now and it's right next to all the construction...nasty setup.

found out a little bit about the big restaurant that is going in the garden wing building ....

from what i was told it will be lunch only and be able to serve 2,000 people a day will be very high quality

with 2 big stone pizza ovens a huge salad bar where you will fill a plate and pay by the ounce. a "healthy" food line and a normal burger/sandwich line.

Comment on another fourum regarding the Devon Energy Center:

im sure it looks nice from far away. but big deal. that site plan and building orientation leaves little to be desired. might as well be in the 'burbs. seems we never learn how to make a quality urban environment. you certainly dont get there by buildings things that only look good a mile away.

Don't get too worked up about it. We'd probably be criticizing it if it were being built in Tulsa or Dallas. We aren't exactly the greatest on being consistent. Glad we have it here. But at the same time let's let others form their own opinion, we don't have to parade around defending it. It defends itself to those that actually matter, not the people on internet forums who are overly emotional.

As you can see by the above image, there are still four "levels" left to top out the tower. I'm not saying "stories", but "levels", to define remaining height. I believe that's 2 mechanical and 2 crown.

Urbanized
07-16-2011, 01:26 PM
Yep. Almost all of them.

SoonerAce311
07-16-2011, 01:42 PM
You are correct SkyWestOKC. Yep I jumped on the "lake hefner breeze" guy a little hard and defended the devon tower little much too much. I want to apologize to everybody out there for "losing my cool." Hey OKCisOK4me, we are on the 50th floor right now, and then we have the 2 mechanical floors, then the crown. This is why i feel that the devon tower is going to be in between the 850-925 range. If the crown is 40ft (2 levels) then it will be around 870-880. If the crown is 60ft, then it will be around the 900-908 that has been talked about. The reason i say its going to be taller is because, if you keep adding floors without raising the height, then you would have no crown, which is part of the original architecture. So i believe it will be taller with what is still left to build. What do you think Pete, OKCisOK4me, everybody?

OKCisOK4me
07-16-2011, 02:00 PM
I agree, with you, that it will be taller than 850. I do not believe that 844 is the final height as discussed before. I think that was the difference between ground level and the level that the restaurant was going to be at. So with the other levels on top of that, yeah, it'll be taller than 850 (and that's fine by everyone on here).
