View Full Version : Devon Energy Center
David Pollard 06-01-2011, 02:42 PM Maybe a bit early, but has anyone else thought that the East Garage, just north of the tower, is ripe for a capacity increase like the West Garage? OR... is this space being saved for a future extension of the Devon complex? I only comment as it now seems totally out of scale with everything else around it. Does Devon actually own it?
David, that garage is owned by the group that owns Oklahoma Tower, Leadership Square and City Place. It was purchased from the city so they could provide at least some spaces to their tenants.
From what I understand, that section was not built with the same ability to expand.
Devon seemed pretty careful in the planning process to make sure they had enough office space and parking for quite some time into the future. If they were to expand, it seems likely they would go to the west across Hudson and take over some or all the property owned by Preftakes.
David Pollard 06-01-2011, 02:58 PM Thanks for the clarification Peter. Let's hope that Devon does not build on the lot of that beautiful art deco building!
OKCisOK4me 06-01-2011, 05:14 PM New video coming up today. Watch for it. It turned out pretty well. Something totally different.
Is that going to be after 8PM? Hopefully before because I can't access your videos on my cell phone browser cause they always force close them...
Dustin 06-01-2011, 05:49 PM Steve is teasing us again.. From his facebook:
The things I'm tracking for downtown OKC right now just blow me away... if even a fraction of it comes true, the excitement won't end with Devon Energy Center, Project 180 and MAPS 3....
UnFrSaKn 06-01-2011, 08:30 PM Is that going to be after 8PM? Hopefully before because I can't access your videos on my cell phone browser cause they always force close them...
Yeah, sorry. Around 9pm. I could have had it up earlier but got around to watching movies and resting. I was out Tuesday night from 2pm past 10pm. I'm going out of town Thursday early morning and will be gone all day doing video for a radio station and Jed Castles from News 9.
UnFrSaKn 06-01-2011, 09:04 PM Here's something different. I hope folks at Devon get a chance to see it. I think this is the direction I'm going now.
EDIT: 2 hour encoding time...as of 9:18pm.

dmoor82 06-01-2011, 10:13 PM I hope another tower is built in OKC just so I can keep on seeing william's videos!
UnFrSaKn 06-01-2011, 10:17 PM The HD version is still encoding. I didn't encode for 720p Vimeo on this one like the others.

Thundercitizen 06-01-2011, 11:17 PM Thanks, William. I've done some video work myself (shooting and editing). It takes a lot of time. Well done. Nice crossfades, etc.

okcRE 06-01-2011, 11:57 PM outstanding video!
dmoor82 06-02-2011, 12:01 AM It would be really cool and I bet time consuming if William could make a sunrise to sunset timelapse of The OKC skyline!
David Pollard 06-02-2011, 02:25 AM William, your video is truly superb and I really hope that Devon is taking note. Don't know what you do for a living, but you should consider approaching them about doing their corporate videos. I used to work in branding and communications in a large multinational and your talents should not go unnoticed!
Hear that Devon?? !!! Hire this guy!!

Thunder 06-03-2011, 03:47 PM That view from above shows how bad OKC is when being green. We need more "go green" activism around here.
And here is the first video done on my new phone, Samsung Epic.

Touring Devon Tower: Oklahoma's Tallest Building (http://www.news9.com/story/14701712/touring-devon-tower-oklahomas-tallest-building?redirected=true)
OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Devon Tower is now the tallest building in the state of Oklahoma, surpassing Tulsa's 667-foot Bank of Oklahoma Tower. But the Devon building is not finished growing.
The impressive skyscraper is closing in on a planned height of 850 feet and 50 stories, but also impressive is the "bucket hoist" that takes workers and executives straight up the side of the building. It goes up to the 37th floor, where the Oklahoma wind whips by at furious speeds.

WHOA! Just watching that gave me vertigo! When the camera points out off the edge... :dizzy:
And poor taxpayers getting audited by IRS not only have to schlep their records downtown, but have to pay a premium price to park 2-3 blocks away?
Century Center is across the street...

/facepalm
You might want to actually look up what "being green" means.

UnFrSaKn 06-03-2011, 11:15 PM Anyone from Devon that views this forum? Just curious.
Thunder 06-04-2011, 01:12 AM Anyone from Devon that views this forum? Just curious.
Yes, a lot of them (if not all of them). They just do not seem interested in posting here....
UnFrSaKn 06-04-2011, 04:35 AM They are not allowed to post anything or discuss what happens concerning the company, which I'm aware of that but I've long been curious what the opinions are on the nine months of construction progress I have worked on so far. Can't help but wonder after a while.
Thunder 06-04-2011, 11:08 AM I am sure that they love you dearly. :-) They love us all for posting any pix or videos, even if mine sucks. haha

I was thinking just the opposite. I saw the photos and was impressed by all of the green. Not to mention OKC being a city with some of the cleanest air in the country.
Love this image from William's awesome video as well:

Lafferty Daniel 06-06-2011, 08:41 PM Once the tower is complete, and you cut of a little of the bottom of the pic so the power lines don't show, that should be the pic on OKC's wiki page.
Thunder 06-06-2011, 08:45 PM What's wrong with the power lines? It adds character to the picture.
Lafferty Daniel 06-06-2011, 08:57 PM Power lines have always been an eyesore to me. But hey, to each his own.
I've said many times I love this particular angle because all the taller buildings line up well and you can also clearly see Leadership Square.
If taken from a little further away and higher up, it's even better and shows plenty of green in the foreground.
That will be the real money shot IMO.
Dulahey 06-06-2011, 09:32 PM I know this is asked all the time... but can anyone tell what floor they're working on now? Aren't they supposed to be taller by now? They still seem to be the same height...
I think they are just finishing the 46th level...
47-50 (the top four) should be around 20' rather than the standard 15'.
Thunder 06-06-2011, 09:46 PM Power lines have always been an eyesore to me. But hey, to each his own.
A whole bunch of them are yucky, true, but in the case of this picture, it is only a short length and I think it is amazing as it adds character to it.

Did you ever figure out 51-52?
Regarding the number of levels, there is still some confusion over that. A contact was double-checking the construction drawings.
I do think the height will remain at 850 feet.

It appears to me that they have already completed one of the larger floors and started the next. I saved a webcam pic to my computer so I could zoom it in. I also drive by daily on I235 and it appears larger.

I thought they looked bigger too.

I think the last "complete" floor is the one below where that middle column is non existent. We are about to see those three triangle edges be done--which I think will slow down the 'one floor per week' rate.
This is my understanding of how this lays out:
http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/devoncrown1.jpg
OKCisOK4me 06-07-2011, 05:03 PM Thanks Pete! I hope your source confirms that the building is indeed 52, plus another floor for mechanical!
Thunder 06-08-2011, 12:52 AM How much taller did we go since our last logo update?
Dulahey 06-09-2011, 10:22 PM I saw this evening where they are placing the rebar for the columns on the 48th floor. This is where the central column on each of the 3 faces splits apart and forms a "Y".
In Pete's picture, it's the point right above the number 47.
dmoor82 06-10-2011, 02:30 AM I was just thinkin that this tower when completed might be the best looking skyscraper in this entire region including Texas,Fountain place is Awesome and H-town has some nice scrapers, then you have Denver,KC,all which will not have a nicer Skyscraper IMO!Thoughts?
I think it will come in third place behind Bank of America Plaza in Dallas and the Mid-Continentent tower. JMO.
mburlison 06-10-2011, 06:57 AM I have not been on here as often lately, is there a new camera link?
