With the loss of the Galleria parking, it's been tough enough to find a monthly parking spot when you have to pay for it yourself. Century Center and Cox are the main two places with monthly or daily parking still available for self-payers. And poor taxpayers getting audited by IRS not only have to schlep their records downtown, but have to pay a premium price to park 2-3 blocks away? Esthetics aside - parking is still needed. when project 180 is finished .. it will add something like 500 spaces to downtown Dulahey 05-23-2011, 07:45 AM East crane going up right now. Problem is, I can't get a good connection with my laptop. I'll try to go somewhere to upload them this week... Would like to see it on Wiki's " List of U.S. Cities by Population" too! iMAX386 05-24-2011, 02:21 AM Did anyone else catch the piece on News 9's Sunday 10pm broadcast about the tower? Alex whatshisface went into to the tower w/Nichols and they took him to the very top (44th floor?) and got shots of the landscape and had flyover helicopter shots as well. They showed shots of the finished 7th floor, the model floor, and shots inside the atrium. Said construction is ahead of schedule. I don't remember many more details. Figured someone else on here would have been all over that already. UnFrSaKn 05-24-2011, 04:23 AM Is this good enough? Touring Devon Tower: Oklahoma's Tallest Building (http://www.news9.com/story/14701712/touring-devon-tower-oklahomas-tallest-building?redirected=true) OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Devon Tower is now the tallest building in the state of Oklahoma, surpassing Tulsa's 667-foot Bank of Oklahoma Tower. But the Devon building is not finished growing. The impressive skyscraper is closing in on a planned height of 850 feet and 50 stories, but also impressive is the "bucket hoist" that takes workers and executives straight up the side of the building. It goes up to the 37th floor, where the Oklahoma wind whips by at furious speeds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7D1KC21R7Fk Pete 05-24-2011, 08:59 AM That video is awesome! Gave me vertigo. The webcam is back up. UnFrSaKn 05-24-2011, 10:09 AM Ok, the address is different now. KayneMo 05-24-2011, 12:19 PM Neat video! UnFrSaKn 05-25-2011, 08:59 AM Time for an update. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City#Tallest_buildings List of tallest buildings in Oklahoma City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Oklahoma_City) KayneMo 05-25-2011, 04:37 PM I don't see Leadership Square South on any of those lists! It's definitely tall enough at 240-ish feet, right? Pete 05-25-2011, 04:51 PM Photo from today; 36 levels with glass, 44 levels complete and 45 about half-way: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/devon52511.jpg Martin 05-25-2011, 04:57 PM based on that picture, would you say there's about 10 stories to go? -M Pete 05-25-2011, 05:03 PM Yes, if you added another 10 levels on top of the 45th floor nearing completion, that would approximate the final height. At 45 levels we are at about 700 feet, with 850 being the finished height. Each of the recent floors are about 15' high, so that would leave the equivalent of about 10 more. Levels 47-50 will be about 20 feet rather than 15 and the unoccupied crown with be another 60 feet. BG918 05-25-2011, 07:25 PM I remember it discussed many pages back, but was it ever confirmed that there will be a public restaurant on one of the top floors? I hope that is true. Thunder 05-25-2011, 07:27 PM I was terrified yesterday about that El Reno tornado/storm turned a hard right and head toward downtown. Some people mentioned about this growing tower, but I can't remember the exact comments. Lucky it turned back toward the north/northeast. Terrifying day it was! Kerry 05-25-2011, 07:51 PM I remember it discussed many pages back, but was it ever confirmed that there will be a public restaurant on one of the top floors? I hope that is true. Yes there will be a restaurant on the top floor (or two), but you better bring a Gold Card because it won't be cheap. The addition of the restaurant makes me hope that there is final adjustment to the height. HOT ROD 05-26-2011, 12:50 AM ^ interesting point, and I agree. Remember guys, the original plan was 54 floors, with 4 being for the data center and 50 still needed for office. NOW, the plan is for 50 office floors but they also announced there will be 2 floors for restaurant. Shouldn't that mean there will be 52 total floors and hence, appx the 908 feet that was announced as the 'initial' reduced height? I am hopeful and I still say, shoot for at least 300 metre supertall status (if you really can't do/beat the 1,000 footer status)!! Hopeful!!!! Thundercitizen 05-26-2011, 01:54 AM I am hopeful and I still say, shoot for at least 300 metre supertall status (if you really can't do/beat the 1,000 footer status)!! Hopeful!!!! After tonight's/last night's game with the Mavs, I'd be happy with a 922' Devon Tower just to top Dallas. mrktguy29 05-26-2011, 02:25 AM Photo from today; 36 levels with glass, 44 levels complete and 45 about half-way: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/devon52511.jpg My favorite part of this photo is the glimpse of the reflection on the top of the rotunda. The Sky was gorgeous yesterday and it shows. I also like the illusion of the building being translucent (see the horizon line on the building). I caught a glimpse of the top today from Memorial and County Line - It barely pokes up above the trees but will be a sight once complete. Same from my daily vantage point at 140th/Penn - On a clear day you can catch a shimmer on the glass. BG918 05-26-2011, 08:49 AM Yes there will be a restaurant on the top floor (or two), but you better bring a Gold Card because it won't be cheap. The addition of the restaurant makes me hope that there is final adjustment to the height. I wouldn't expect to be. I was worried it would just be for Devon employees. Kerry 05-26-2011, 09:04 AM nm Pete 05-26-2011, 09:32 AM I just learned today from an inside source that the tower will in fact be 52 floors with the addition of the restaurant and banquet space to the top. That means rather than 850 feet, the tower will now be closer to 900 feet. soonerwilliam 05-26-2011, 09:43 AM That's GREAT news!!! Thanks Pete. You've made my day. earlywinegareth 05-26-2011, 09:44 AM DT was originally planned at 925', slightly taller than Dallas' tallest, BofA plaza. Heck, might as well put an ugly 100' spire on top and call it a supertall! BoulderSooner 05-26-2011, 10:32 AM great news and another scoop for OkcTalk.com metro 05-26-2011, 11:31 AM great news and another scoop for OkcTalk.com Awesome! Yeah, I'm sure JR and D.O. will be on it next week. Thunder 05-26-2011, 11:43 AM I just learned today from an inside source that the tower will in fact be 52 floors with the addition of the restaurant and banquet space to the top. That means rather than 850 feet, the tower will now be closer to 900 feet. It was 54 then down to 50, then up to 52? Are you sure they increased to 52 for the restaurants, or it is actually 48 for business and the top two to 50 for restaurants? Just making sure you understood the inside scoop. Make sure you and OKCTalk get the credit, not the bloggers for the local media. Pete 05-26-2011, 11:49 AM I was specifically told 52 floors total from someone that has a high-level position on the project. Since the top floors will be 20 feet each, this should add at least 40 feet to total height. They may even make those top two floors taller than 20 feet since they will be used for restaurant and banquet space. So, at least 890 feet total and maybe slightly over 900. If you recall, when the building was originally announced, it was to be 54 floors and 925 feet. Then it was adjusted down to 50 / 850. Now it looks like 52 / 890. maestro6 05-26-2011, 12:59 PM If this ends up being accurate, that's a huge "wow" announcement. Thanks for sharing it with us. SkyWestOKC 05-26-2011, 01:02 PM Not doubting Pete in any way, but I am not holding my breath until a formal announcement is made. Great news though if it happens! Dustin 05-26-2011, 01:04 PM KEWL! Thanks for the update Pete! Mike63 05-26-2011, 02:32 PM They could also keep it at 850 feet and 52 stories by keeping the final floors at 15 feet. Shouldn't they have already started the taller floors? OKCisOK4me 05-26-2011, 02:47 PM Not if its 52 now, since the top four floors were the taller ones. Sounds to me like 48 will be where the forms for the columns will change, as the three facades triangle out... Pete 05-26-2011, 03:48 PM I'm told levels 47 through 52 (the top six) will be of the taller variety; about 20 feet each. Very similar to the first six floors of the building. My sources on this project are solid. Several times I've revealed information before there was an official announcement and it's all proven out. KayneMo 05-26-2011, 04:32 PM This is very exciting news!!! Made my day. Thanks, Pete. UnFrSaKn 05-26-2011, 04:32 PM I've got some new stuff coming that you guys are going to like. I'm heading in a different direction with the videos. It's my first time trying it and it's getting better already... At the end of the month, I'm putting it all together. Pete 05-26-2011, 04:34 PM Hold the phone... I think there was some confusion. While there may be 52 levels, two of those may be part of the crown and thus not represent additional height. I've got someone double-checking the construction drawings and will have a definitive answer soon. OKC@heart 05-26-2011, 05:33 PM Hold the phone... I think there was some confusion. While there may be 52 levels, two of those may be part of the crown and thus not represent additional height. I've got someone double-checking the construction drawings and will have a definitive answer soon. You answered this right as I was reading all of the new posts and was wondering that very thing, with the additional space of the crown of the building it would seem to be the most economical approach to simply make the top structure smaller and incorporate the space into the already designed and fabricated exterior glazing system. Rather than have to change wind loading parameters...that said I would love it if it did somehow increase the height and they kept the crown or even increased it slightly to achieve the goal! Here is to wishful thinking and the unconquerable Oklahoma can do spirit! kevinpate 05-26-2011, 06:47 PM I don't care much whether it's going to increase the height or not. That's going to be one amazing dinner view either way! K5FAL 05-26-2011, 08:02 PM Holy **** I was told this a few months ago by a man who manages a certain high-rise apartment complex in downtown where a certain equipment operator lives and I didn't believe him! dmoor82 05-26-2011, 09:22 PM Holy **** I was told this a few months ago by a man who manages a certain high-rise apartment complex in downtown where a certain equipment operator lives and I didn't believe him! hmmmmm....I also heard said rumors from a man who lives in a downtown apartment high-rise,among other rumors! metro 05-27-2011, 12:46 AM I've heard the same rumor from a certAin man who lives in a shoe HOT ROD 05-27-2011, 12:47 AM if you recall my last post to this thread, I assumed going up would only be logical since they need 50 floors of office and now will have 2 floors of restaurant/observation. This was before Pete's 'announcement', so I am glad Pete more or less confirmed what I and a few others on this forum had always speculated. I think it will top at least to the 908 feet that was the first announced height after the 925 reduction and I wouldn't be surprised to see taller than 20 feet floors for the top 2 (or even top 5-6). Talk about an amazing sky restaurant, "windows on the plains". Cheers. UnFrSaKn 05-27-2011, 04:45 PM Went down to do some video and found that they must be using a "skeleton crew". The cranes were not in use but had a cool American flag hanging from Crane 1. The smaller one near the Rotunda had another one hanging. Kind of put a damper on what I was going for, but still got a few shots. You'll know what I mean at the end of the month. I guess it will be this way all weekend right? I'll only have Monday and Tuesday to finish the new project I'm doing. The four elevators were being used, and a few people were on the Rotunda. Must be a night crew amount of workers. Joe Kimball 05-27-2011, 05:16 PM The cranes were not in use but had a cool American flag hanging from Crane 1. The smaller one near the Rotunda had another one hanging. That must be an awesome sight from various points around the city. metro 05-27-2011, 09:01 PM Unforsaken, yes they are on skeleton crew for holidays; I took pics of them raising the flags earlier today, I will post pics when I get time. soonerwilliam 05-31-2011, 03:00 PM Hold the phone... UnFrSaKn 06-01-2011, 08:30 AM New video coming up today. Watch for it. It turned out pretty well. Something totally different. |
