Richard at Remax 04-26-2011, 04:53 PM metro, I just got back from the masters two weeks ago and I find that extremely hard to believe. especially if you didn't have a badge since you have to go through all sorts of security and scanners. you have a better chance of sneaking onto an airplane
mburlison 04-26-2011, 06:15 PM Ditto, I even got into the Masters once this way, the year Phil Mickelson won his first.
A Mop and a Bucket will get you most places LOL.

Believe what you want, but it's true. I even have a souvenir pin to prove it.
BBatesokc 04-26-2011, 08:00 PM 90% of anything is just looking like you belong there.
When I lived at Sycamore Square in downtown OKC (and was much younger broke) I got into performance next door at the Civic Center several times by myself (acting in a hurry and with purpose) and with a female friend (we'd fake an argument as we passed the little old lady taking tickets). I've also found that when I get out my larger format camera and put it on my shoulder I can get into most places without question.
UnFrSaKn 04-26-2011, 08:54 PM I get confused for a band member when I go to concerts... The camera thing will work.. or get you kicked off public property like me.
cameron_405 04-26-2011, 11:19 PM I doubt too many alcoholics make it long as BASE jumpers. Look more like unkept thrill seekers.
I'm actually all for this type of thrill seeker - EXCEPT when their hobby puts others in direct risk (which these guys did).

earlywinegareth 04-27-2011, 09:28 AM I went downtown Saturday afternoon to take pics and was surprised how close I could get to the building. From the intersection of Park & Harvey, you can walk south and get close enuf to nearly touch the building. I was taking pics in a little parking lot behind the Colcord and could look straight up at the crane operator...if he/she spit out the window, I would've had to wipe my camera lens.
It was overcast Saturday, but still bright...made for some awesome b&w shots.

Love the change in Oklahoma City!
ColoradoMike 04-27-2011, 11:22 AM This is to the guy posting from Portland, OR. Look, I'm from Denver, and so I guess I can't very well be the OKC Avenger, but I'm so sick of hearing about Portland, that I have to chime in here. "Oh, it's well planned, and we have light-rail." Well, whoopie for you, Portland. When we are all in our graves, the Devon Tower will be taller than anything in Portland. There is only one thing they hate more than people in Portland, and that is businesses. I'd take OKC any day of the week, over stagnant, full of homeless, drug infested, terrible weather Portland. Most overrated city in the U.S. They only rail on other cities like OKC, because they know that they will never be in the same league, themselves, as a Seattle, or a San Francisco. People in OKC are about 10,000 nicer, as well. Portland, Oregon sucks. Enjoy it, though, buddy.
ColoradoMike 04-27-2011, 11:27 AM Hell, Portland can't even hold Denver's jockstrap. What, they have one terrible sports team? Wow, I'm awed by you, Portlandia.
geterdone 04-27-2011, 12:24 PM So have we surpased Tulsa yet?
No, not quite the tallest building in the state.
Should reach that mark in about another month... Currently 41 levels completed and 45 complete would likely do it.
mcca7596 04-27-2011, 01:39 PM I sure was thinking the floor they just finished was the 43rd.
They said the two guys jumped from the 36th floor, which I thought was the lowest one without glass. I looked at the cam and counted up from there. Idk...
We need some new photos to know for sure, as there is no point of reference on our webcam.

True, and speaking of, what is the status on a possible new cam from the Chase tower and one that was possibly going to go in Deep Deuce for the Level and Aloft projects?
OKC@heart 04-27-2011, 02:28 PM duplicate
Regarding the cam in Chase Tower, the gentleman that volunteered to set that up is being held up by his IT department.
I'm still confident it will get done, it's just outside my control (and his). But the wait will be worth it.

The floor slab that you see immediately above the horizon line (on the web cam) is the 13th floor. That said if you count from there I get that they just placed the formwork that will support the pouring of the 44th floor, so we are not far from that now.
Dulahey 04-27-2011, 06:01 PM I know this is not the place to post this, but I don't want to make an entire thread just to mention it. I've also seen this subject discussed in this very thread several times before.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population
There is an old picture of Oklahoma City on that page. Can someone please update it? Probably to the same picture that's already there for the OKC page.

Pete, if you count the levels in the last photos you posted, it shows that that roof for the 40th level or floor for the 41st level has been poured.
soonerwilliam 04-28-2011, 11:57 AM I agree with Dulahey about the picture being changed to the same one that's on the OKC page. Can someone do this? The picture on the population page is not good. Doesn't do justice to our skyline and doesn't include the Devon Tower.
UnFrSaKn 04-28-2011, 01:28 PM It is on the 41st floor. I just spent 3-4 hours down there until both batteries ran out. Wow, what an absolutely perfect day. I would have stayed down there all day but had to go charge my batteries. I got plenty of Devon video, all around the Myriad Gardens, Crystal Bridge and some of the Arts Festival. Look for it in a few days.
Dustin 04-28-2011, 10:46 PM I was down at the Myriad Gardens for the Arts Festival and the tower is.... Uhhmazing! I didn't know where I was.. I thought "this couldn't be Oklahoma..."

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p314/Dulahey/Devon%20Tower/IMG_1425.jpg
I count 41 completed levels and glass completed on 33, about halfway around the 34th.
A good reference point from the west (thanks dibbyba!) is the highest crane attachment is on the 30th level.
Thunder 04-29-2011, 03:55 PM Can I ask a question? How tall from the total ground/bottom of the tower to the top of 50th floor? Then how tall is the crown and other stuff above the 50th floor?

Just so you know, that's not me; I was just pointing out where the guy from the other forum was from.
As far as I know, he has not ever been on here.
mrktguy29 04-30-2011, 02:51 AM There is a nice view of the top on the horizon from Coffee Creek (220th) and Pennsylvania. Can only imagine what it will look like once complete and the lighting at night.

okcfollower 04-30-2011, 12:20 PM Are the concrete poles going to be left exposed? Or will they be covered in some type of material?

Thundercitizen 04-30-2011, 01:39 PM Looks like they're about to unfurl a "Go Thunder" banner directly facing the cam.
SkyWestOKC 04-30-2011, 01:55 PM Woo!!! GO THUNDER!
UnFrSaKn 04-30-2011, 02:12 PM Awesome! That will look great. Wonder how they will manage it with the glass going up. Perhaps leave that section unfinished?

I believe the ones outside will be covered in stainless steel and the ones inside will likely be plastered:

Thunder 04-30-2011, 07:18 PM How far along are they with the exterior lighting system? I wonder if they would be willing to light up blue as much they can for the Thunder.
UnFrSaKn 04-30-2011, 07:54 PM I noticed while doing video of the Rotunda, the crane was lowering this small triangular piece of glass down. Upon reviewing the footage just now, it looks like they're adding the triangular glass pieces onto the top of the Rotunda.

metro 05-02-2011, 09:27 AM I'm looking out my office window and they just dropped the "O" and half the "T" on the "GO THUNDER" they are putting on Devon Tower. I'll try to get my camera at lunch and snap some pics.
Is it just the one sign on the north side?
Or with there more on other sides of the building?
metro 05-02-2011, 09:45 AM I'm looking at the north side, I imagine they will do one on the south as well.
David Pollard 05-02-2011, 10:05 AM thanks for the height perspective.
Although this was probably not meant as such, this would be an ideal location in OKC for a skyscraper the size of the Williams tower. Basically, we are talking about the parking garage/mall of the Sheraton. Makes a lovely 'staircase' effect with the Devon and Chase towers.
OKCisOK4me 05-02-2011, 11:52 AM I'd rather downtown not look like a 'more bars' cell phone commercial, LOL. Need to build a highrise on the northside of downtown!
