Horrible experience.

Just walked out of Deep Deuce. I was with a group of 5 friends. We took a table on the patio - only one other table occupied. Sat there for 20 minutes and were never so much as greeted, much less given the opportunity to order. Server even came out and helped a table of ten right next to us (it took quite an effort to work that table without turning to see us). Another group of 6 came in behind us and was equally ignored. When we left, I made a point to walk in to the bar and told the staff we were leaving after having been sitting outside for 20 minutes with no service. The smartass said "you're welcome."

They weren't busy at all - maybe one table inside, 4 to 6 people inside at the bar. Pathetic. We were probably good for a hundred dollar or better tab, and a healthy gratuity. Instead, none of us will be back, and I'll go out of my way to share my experience.

Incidentally, when I first suggested my group go in to the Deuce, the first comment was "they have horrible service." Should have listened.

I used to love deep deuce. but the last few times ive been the service has been pretty slow. on one occasion a friend and i sat there for 10 or 15 minutes without ever being served, so we rolled out. it was a sunday afternoon, not that busy either.

Sad to hear this. I'll share it with a person who will want to see this.

I have typically found that the "worst" service that I have had is when places are not busy, the staff seems to not have any focus on service because everything isn't as hectic. The "best" service that I have typically had is when things seem to be the most hectic.

I have never been to Deep Deuce so I am just speaking in general.

Yeah, it's sad, because I like their food. The two times I've been there service was good. They were empty the first time, but we sat near the bar so it wasn't hard to get service. The second time was lunch, so it was packed and enjoyed good service.

May also be worth mentioning...I was at an event this afternoon with one of the people I was with last night when we had such poor service. He was sharing our experience with someone else. I overheard that person reply that he and his co-workers "used" to be regulars at the Deuce for after work cocktails, but had quit going because of the repeatedly dismal service. He described nearly identical experiences - couldn't get the attention of any waitstaff or bartender. He said he had heard the same complaints from a number of other people.

It seems like they are in desperate need of a manager on-site, or someone who has a vested interest in satisfied patrons.

Really a shame. Great concept, great location. Hate to see places like that circling the drain.

service at deep deuce grill sucks, but I don't think they are circling the drain...don't they get a lot of business during basketball/NBA season? for some reason, I can't envision deep deuce closing. it's been there forever

By "Deep Deuce" we assume you're referring to Deep Deuce Grill, and not any of the other restaurants in Deep Deuce.

I had great service there on Friday for lunch and they weren't very busy.

Yes - sorry about that. Force of habit...we've always referred to it as "The Deuce".

I agree; they've survived way before anything was starting to get revived in that area.

Been there 7 or 8 times (lunch and dinner). Never had a bad experience. Wait staff is always attentive and food is always very good.

I probably chose my words poorly. Not circling the drain in terms of closing, but more along the line of me characterizing them as a place I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to visit.

And just to clarify - I'm not by any stretch of the imagination suggesting folks should abandon a local place because of a singular or occasional poor experience. I suppose it just boils down to a matter of personal preference. Weekends are a little precious for me, and if I have a choice between a place that has consistently provided great food / drink and outstanding service versus a place that has mixed reviews and that I've personally had bad experiences, I would routinely defer to the former. I'm glad to hear others have had better service - I'm just not willing to take the chance until I hear better reports of consistent experiences.

Deep Deuce. . . circling the drain. . .

My inner eleven-year-old is loving this thread.

FYI DD closed last week, issues with the owners, supposed to reopen in a few weeks with a different name I believe since Deep Deuce Grill was copyrighted.

The drain has been circled... sign on door says "closed for remodeling".

Interesting. If they had "behind the scenes" issues that may explain the front-of-house problems. I don't take any satisfaction in it - I would love for a place like that to become an institution. That being said, not hard to imagine a place with the poor service myself and others had experiencing issues in other areas of operation. Hope they (or their successors) get squared away and are back soon.

Wow, sad to see them go out of business, I hope a quality restaurant opens up there soon.

Hopefully this will be for the best. With the right operator, good food and good service, that's a killer location.

Just spoke with the property's owner - listening to him, this is a very, very, very good thing.

Hopefully before NBA season starts. That was a favorite place to eat before Thunder (and Hornets' games). I must say, though, that taking the Black Pearl to the Ford Center from the Iguana is a hoot, and I do love their food as well. Man, I'm going to miss the Deep Deuce burger. It was one of my favorite burgers in town, and worth the poor service.

Steve, it helps if you link to the actual story, instead of the main page of the blog. I clicked your link yesterday and you had 3 new blog posts to scroll through first. New comers to your blog might not care enough to scroll through to find an article, especially if they don't read the thread with a link for awhile. Just a suggestion.

Just ate there. The menu has been reduced and the offerings enticing. I had a spinach salad with a raspberry viniagrette dressing which was solid, but not mindblowing. Then the Five by Five chicken sandwich: chicken breast, mushrooms, onions with both honey mustard and buffalo sauce.

The sandwich was borderline awesome!

Service was awesome, some slight updates on the inside...I'l definitely definitely be back. I think I can safely say it's an improvement on what was already a Deep Deuce gem. (Prices were fair, too!)
