Opening night is tonight, so reviews won't start hitting the street until tomorrow (for Lyric's version, that is). Oklahoman review won't be out until Thursday.

The musical itself is an absolute RIOT. Two scheming Broadway producers set to scam their financial backers out of millions by writing and producing what they believe will be an absolute flop - offending any and everyone's genteel sensibilities. They find themselves in a bit of a bind, however, when the show succeeeds, and their plans to sneak off to places unknown (with their backers loot, of course), is now indefinitely thwarted.

Originally produced by Mel Brooks (so think bawdy Brookensian humor - "Springtime for Hitler" is one of many Nazi-themed showtunes), it had a very long renaissance on Broadway, where Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick took over the lead roles.

Brooks also did a movie version, which was also remade a few years ago, with, you guessed it, Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick in the starring roles.

It is funny, funny stuff!

Lyric has had very few misses over the past several years, so I can't imagine this will be anything but fabulous.

Very good show, best of the Lyric season. If you get a chance to go on Friday or Saturday, I strongly recommend it!

I heard it was the best Lyric production in 15 years. I didn't get to see it, but Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat earlier this summer was amazing.

Movie remake a bit back was a riot. I suspect in theater it would be at least as enjoyable, and likely more so
