Going to my granddaughters first basketball game of the season. I put on the cologne she gave me for Christmas named after Quick Draw McGraw. Wonder how at age 13 she knows about Quick Draw McGraw? Oh! Wait a second. It's Tim McGraw. Who in hades is Tim McGraw?(LOL)

This should be "things children should never know about". A program is on the History Channel concerning what to do if you survive a disaster and are looking for others. This guy is demonstrating how to hot wire a car.

Not a good idea

The scar Frisky is talking about was a small Pox Innoculation usually on your left arm. Almost everyone had that shot....It produced a "Scab" and left a scar. I don't think you are "Old Enough" to have had the shot. Now, the Sugar cubes did have the Polio Vaccine on them.....

My sister got a bad keloid - a raised scar two inches across and over 3/4 of an inch high. It was really bad. So they vaccinated me on my leg, instead. It didn't keloid up.

Don't even like to think about Floor Furnaces.....I got sick at my stomach (Long story) and "threw-Up" in the Floor Furnace where I was raised....The smell was not much to talk about and then I also had to Clean it up.....Yuck....Then, how about the Gas heater in the wall of the bathrooms of those old houses????I still
(age 63) have a scar on my leg where I slipped and fell against one in our houses.....Imagine trying to wear Starched Levis at that time of my young life.....No fun....

Ouch! Yeah, there were some hazards involved with the old gas heaters. One of my cousins dropped a couple of rubber bands down their floor furnace. The place stank for weeks. My Grandma's house had the old wall mount gas heater in the bathroom. We never had any incidents but I always worried about the towel in the rack over the heater.

Our bathroom had one of those stand alone porcelain gas stove. At some point during cold weather you would back up to get warmer and get a two to three inch wide burn covering your calf. Man!!

We had a larger self standing heater in the living room. My grandmother lived with us and you can bet you would catch with her dress held up and warming her butt......

Stingray bicycles. Pedaling really fast, make a sharp turn and slam on the back-pedal brake to fishtail! Alas! even at the tender age of 11 I was too tall for a Stingray. I had a 26" English Racer with butterfly handlebars and a 3 speed. Couldn't fishtail because it had hand brakes. : (

"Squeeze" brand soda pop. Strawberry was the best.

Going to the Kiwanis Center at Memorial Park in the summertime and talking one of the teenage counselors into putting the juke box on "free play".

Summertime swimming at the indoor pool at Harding HS. K-6th grade girls noon to 1:00; 7th-12th grade girls 1:00 to 2:00; K-6th grade boys 2:00 to 3:00; 7th-12th grade boys 3:00 to 4:00; family night Wednesdays 7:00 to 8:00. I didn't know why at the time, but when I was in 4th, 5th and 6th grades I really liked going to the pool and seeing the older, wet girls leaving. (Hope that doesn't sound creepy, it wasn't meant to be!)

Parents, other than theirs who say no to sweets. I had my share of candy, pop, and junk. Tonight I was at my granddaughters basketball game. There were all these kids, toddlers and young teens eating candy all evening long. Skittles, candy bars, sour candy.......

No wonder kids can't sit still for more than five minutes at a time. Probably left the game and stopped at McDonald's for supper.......

Like Prune, mine had fenders. We rode our bikes all over town. Lake Overholser and the North Canadian (I don't think they changed the rivers name in that area.) We used to fish; catch all kinds of snakes....and best of all it was free. That is unless when you got there you find that during the ride the glass inside the thermos shattered.

I remember as a little boy that many a evening dinner was thrown together by more than one family.....Someone might have a chunk of meat and someone could only afford a head of lettuce and then someone canned some vegetables and someone had Enough flour to bake bread and then we would all sit down and eat.....The bounty of the neighborhood was shared by all those involved....
My mother could bake the BEST Yeast rolls in the country.....She was however a cook and manager of several local restaurants.....
