I took my grand daughter to a Red Hawks (of which there is no such bird)
game and bought her all the food and pop she could put away... then took
her home to her parents.

Is that not the greatest Picker! I do the same thing LOL

For Father's Day this year I got a new ice cream freezer with a wooden bucket and a hand crank AND an electric motor. On the 4th of July we had the usual gang over for the day. The kids swim and the grown-ups sit around and eat and visit. We made some ice cream in the new freezer and all the kids got to turn the crank as long as they wanted and then I put the electric motor on it. It only took another 5 minutes with the motor because the kids had it almost done. I didn't get to stop when I was a kid because Dad said "if you want ice cream, you'd better keep turning".

Amen, brother.

Every Saturday in the summertime, we kids and my grandfather cranked on the ice cream maker and had to "sample" it every few minutes. Yuummmm. Loved seeing the frost on the side of the creamer. The loud motor on the newfangled machines bothers me. Instead, there ought to be giggles and squeals of, "OH that's cold!" and "Don't drink the salt water!"

As much as I miss that wonderful ice cream, I miss my grandfather more.

I took my granddaughter to the Coney Island a few years ago. When asked what she wanted to eat, she asked "what are those red things?" Didn't realize that she had never seen the hot dogs with red skin.

That works in 2 ways. Correct in the color......

Wrong in that she has seen hot dogs with me (a redskin) before............

Kids will never know the following:

Thongs were shoes now called "Flip Flops":.....not String panties
"Crack" was something you did telling "Jokes"
"Hoe" was something used in the garden to get rid of weed"
"Weed":....a plant you used a "hoe" on to get it out of the garden....

The sayings of today will probably revert to something else..."My Bad"???what's that all about????..."Sorry I've made a mistake here"....Same thing????Hmmm...maybe the old folks don't know about them...Like where do the guys get those baseball hats with the bill on either the side or the back??? all I've ever seen came out the front of the hat...I remember Wedges being a flat sole shoe not your underwear pulled up real tight.....

I heard a guy tell me here's four large.....I took the money and it was 4 $100.00 bills..did the currency change in stature..????
Remember when a rap was a felony conviction....or your took the RAP for someone else.

This may not set well with some, but today a 3rd grade boy was killed. The school announced that they will provide counselors.

There were there classmates of mine who passed during our school years. I did not know we needed counselors much less want one.

It's a part of life.

That story of the dad killing his 9th grade son is horrifying. And yes, I don't understand the drama that some of the Psychologists attempt to keep dragging that stuff back up. In the 4th grade (summer before 5th) a friend of my was killed by a earth mover.....Accident....The principal at the first day of school called everyone in to the auditorium and told what happened...Said a prayer and school began.....No more drama needed in School....

I recall when a classmate's little brother was swept away in a flood while he was trying to cling to him. Classmate was 9, little brother was 5. All I can say is that I still remember how I felt - still have that sick feeling or horror. Not saying I, personally, needed counseling but it sure was a big deal.

I know the father in the incident with the 9 year old. Very nice guy - must have had a psychotic break. I feel so sorry for the family and his wife. When he comes to his senses, they are going to have to watch him, constantly. Just awful. And for the kids, it might be all the more awful because the little boy was just so normal and if it could happen to him... well, you know.

My former statement wasn't in any way trying to be Harsh. i feel for the dad and the mother....they said that he had just settled a Malpractice suit and it looked like he and the mother were arguing and possibly the little boy tried to stop the dad......Everyone has a breaking point......I just hate to see the world begin to try and drag every kid in the school into the situation. I have worried many days about a School Shooting with my wife being in the classroom.
A lot of that is Gang related and or just a dare. And then along comes the bully effect and bingo chaos erupts.....My wife (last year) caught a kid coming into school with a rather large book....Not the large book kind of kid....and she took it from him ....when she opened it there was a place cut out of the pages that a pistol would fit.....the principal did NOTHING>>>> I am glad she is in a new school ......

Same here. What's the deal?

Here's something our kids will never know about.

Mowing the lawn and tending the garden was created by a women's group
in 1874. Honestly. They realized that if their husbands (us) were mowing
the lawn and weeding the garden they'd know, at any given moment,
where we were.

Stinks, doesn't it.

We need to get together. Prunette thinks that the meeting at Coit's is
a garden workshop.

Whoa! Can we trust Mom? Rowdy55? Southsidegirl? Gen78's wife?

We have always opened gifts on Dec. 24th. These are the gifts that are person to person. Dec. 25th is for the kiddies from Santa.

Even though I have always been asked, "when are you going to grow-up," I never get presents from Santa on Christmas Day.

Hardigree's Donuts on Main and Western next to the Vocational School building....You didn't know that that building was an old Vocational School did you?????Also, Dan's Donuts they were located next door to Bob Poole's Grocery Store on the North East Corner of 44th and S. May.....Did you remember Bob Poole's????They (the donuts) were 50 cents a dozen or three dozen for a Dollar......Fresh, and hot to your front door....."I always said when the people came to the door when they would ask how much????I'd say 3 Dozen for a dollar......most of the people were still sound asleep and would dish out a dollar to get rid of that "Pesky" little kid.....I would make about $3.00 a day and all the donuts I could eat.....Then I'd bring home the ones we didn't sell for my Mom and Sisters......Miss those days....$3.00 would equal a NEW Model car and Glue... sometimes new Model Paint.....a dollar or so left over for the movies at the Chieftain Theater......You can tell I was a money saver.....I knew what my budget was.....
