It was there in 2003, we stopped at it on the way back from Chicago.

Here's a post on the Oklahoma Modern Blog - McDonalds Moderne (http://www.oklahomamodernblog.com/2008/01/mcdonalds-moderne.html) on January 25, 2008. He does mention the bridge in Stroud being torn down.

For several years my wife and I went to Springfield MO. for bowling tourney. The return trip always included bad weather once entering OK. We stopped there many times because of heavy rain. Twice for tornado warnings. Why everyone stopped there because of tornado's I will never know. Kind of like stopping beneath underpasses. That was/is still done by many and I say it was a precaution given by somebody of authority years ago. Like opening the windows of your home. Or was it close your windows?

My kids and their kids will never get to see a Paperboy on his Bicycle throwing the papers and trying to make money at the age of 12. Nor will they see some kid mowing the neighbor's yard for $2.00...oh yeah, you had to rake and bag also...My kids will never get to have the kind of fun I had at Springlake or the Old Frontier City. Everything doesn't have to be politically correct does it???? Can't we just enjoy the time we have on this old blue marble>>>
My kids will never realize the excitement of winning all the neighbor kids marbles and getting to use their own marbles for a trade say for Comic Books.. Huh???

Those are two very good ones! I never had a paper route but helped my
friends throw theirs, for nothing! The big excitement came when we finished
the route and went to Dennis Donuts while they were still warm!

Today, winning someones marbles or trading for comic books would be akin to
taking advantage of the less fortunate (read less talented).

The marbles I remember most were the steelies and the cat-eyes.

Anyone ever played "trails?" You take a stick and make trenches/trails a little wider than the marbles. Put curves in it, ran it under tree roots. Flipped to see who went first. You attempted to hit the person in front of you and take their marble. Just kept going until only one marble remained on the trail.

I remember when it was considered in my neck of the woods to be a bit unfeminine to play marbles - and I was only about nine!! Akin to chewing tobaccy. Oh course, back in those days, we girls didn't even get to play organized baseball because a ball could hit us in our undeveloped chests and cause breast cancer. So we'd play sandlot baseball with the best of 'em and at a certain age, the boys would join a team with nifty uniforms and coaches and we girls - pre puberty - got to sit in the bleachers and watch, cheering them on while they got the glory and we got butt callouses. Am I bitter? Nope. My girls never showed any inclination to play ball and I don't recall feeling disinfranchised - but if I HAD wanted to play ball or if one of my girls had wanted to, how sad. The best thing about the sexual revolution was allowing girls who were athleticly inclined to have a chance to compete.

They may never experience "hand cranked" homemade ice cream. It's getting
easier to make it at home.

I took my grand daughter to a Red Hawks (of which there is no such bird)
game and bought her all the food and pop she could put away... then took
her home to her parents.
