Doug, you still fascinate me with your ability to dig up all this stuff. I really thought the picture of the Criterion was so cool because you can see the sign for "Empire Billiards":.... I'm sure NONE of the ladies on this thread have ever gone into the Empire but I know a few of the guys have. The Centre still has some pretty "Neat" things going on. My sone, his wife and mine have been done for some of the independent movies... It is really nice. The seating is very limited however....

The State's last big moment was when it played as the Biograph Theater in Chicago. The film Dillinger starring Warren Oats and Ben Johnson was filmed entirely in Oklahoma. Dillinger was killed outside the Biograph in Chicago. A problem encountered by the Okc location is that it was freezing and wet during the final scene. Actually, it happened on a sweltering July night. Going to the movies were a favorite pastime for the outlaw. Factor in the heat and the theater having refrigerated air, seeing a movie appeared to be a good idea. Last thing he ever did.

Went often to the Empire Billiards room. That old elevator was really something. I got on a table there once that had a missing web in one pocket - hit my first ball in there and it went all the way to the floor inside the great big carved leg. The old guys who hung out in there smoking cigars and drinking beer were fun. They thought us young guys were a nuisance.

Off subject of this thread, but did you ever venture far enough north to play at "Pappy's" inside Puddin' Lanes bowling alley? Fats and Fast Eddie along with a lot of Pappy's old buddies played there often. Trey Aven (outstanding artist who designed a lot of iconic logos hearabouts including the KATT cat) drew cartoon character portraits of many of them. I wonder where those drawings ended up....

How about the Capitol Hill Domino Parlor on S.Robinson? That could be a rough place. Lots of gambling and such going on there.

Eddie's Past Time. East of Walker on S.W.24th. The big 7up sign that hung over the place for years was removed about a year ago. Wish I had known. Would have tried to take it home.

There was another place on 4th and S. Robinson. Can't remember the name of the place anymore. Ran by a little Hispanic guy.:tiphat:

That's good! And warm them on a wood burning stove. I've got
a few that I'm cleaning up. Also have an iron that works like a
Coleman lantern.

There are some curling irons for hair, too. Maybe I can clean
them up soon and post them.

Remember when they had to actually kill rabbits to check their eggs or something to confirm an early stage pregnancy? Glad we don't have to do that, anymore.

When I removed a mirror from the dining room wall that had been mounted there since the 40's someone had written on the wall underneath "I hope your rabbits all die". It took me a few minutes to figure out why someone would write something so bizarre.

Saw a film clip of Jimi Hendrix performing "Wild Thing" (not the Monterrey performance) and he was asking the whole audience to sing along. "OK, look, anyone who doesn't sing along, I'm gonna put a curse on you, and all of your babies will be born naked!"

It was a retroactive curse. Mom says I was born naked. I was
also born 14 years old. I remember it well. I kept trying to go
back. Mom didn't like it.
