I hope she has the rapport with the other people. Emily and everyone kinda picked fun at each other a lot and it was easy to watch.

Anyone know what happened to KOKH Fox 25 this morning? There is no local news - just a national feed.
king183 10-18-2021, 10:13 AM Carson Cunningham is leaving KOCO and the sports desk for an opportunity outside of TV.

I’m not sure, but it could be related to the ransomware attack on Sinclair, the owner of KOKH.

Yes she's out to the ABC affiliate there in PHX.

Yes, she has taken a job at Integris, though I'm not sure what role. I would guess it's a PIO/PR position since that seems to be the migration out of TV news.

KFOR seems to have someone new at least once a week.

Jessica Bruno's husband, Dillon Richards @ KOCO, is from South FL and will be attending law school there. Losing two great reporters.

Work inside of a newsroom is very stressful. I knew many that burned out in months.

Dillon was the one local TV guy I followed because he actually did his own work and research. Hate to lose him.

SoonerDave 05-09-2024, 05:43 PM Recent shuffle of staff at KWTV has apparently led to the elimination of their daily 4AM newscast, and the departure of meteorologist Hannah Scholl.
rte66man 05-10-2024, 11:40 PM She was expecting her second child so wonder if she might be having some pregnancy difficulties.
Yeah, I miss the 4 a.m. cast. Cannot figure out why they are shoehorning Coby Thielen in with the others at 5. Too crowded.
Do we really need “news” @ 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 4, 6, and 10? It just seems absurd. If it wasn’t for weather, I’m not sure I’d ever watch it.

Different people have different schedules. If people were not watching all those times, the programming would change.

It's 2024. There seems to be very little syndication left for daytime television, gone are the days of shows like Oprah, Ellen, and even most soap operas, and scripted sitcoms and drama shows can simply go to streaming where you can binge on your own schedule.
Local news is there because in the grand scheme of things it is cheap to produce, and can get local advertising. Local news isn't really giving you a new show in the morning, it's the same 15 minute newscast on repeat as different populations wake up.
What's scary is that in the near future, NBC, CBS, ABC, may see little need for the affiliates and push any shows that they produce straight to their respected streaming platforms. Most markets outside of OKC, don't absorb local news, sports, and weather to the degree that this TV market does.
Jeremy Martin 05-12-2024, 10:03 PM It's been a few years, but does anyone know why Aaron Tuttle is not on local news any longer? I've seen some of his weather coverage on FB and he likes to throw some jabs at local coverage from time to time.

The 4am and 5am are nothing but 10pm leftovers with a slice of whatever happened since 10pm and a side of whatever the weather is doing at the moment.
Dob Hooligan 05-13-2024, 12:11 PM Agree with all said upthread. Local Over The Air TV is looking like it is facing many of the same type challenges that print and terrestrial radio have faced from the internet the last 20-25 years.
Local news has been looked at as one of the few things that can bring eyeballs on a budget. Channel 9, having local ownership, might be a bit more cost conscious, and that might have something to do with them giving up on early times for news more quickly than 4 or 5, which are owned by conglomerates.

I thought it was because he didn't agree with station management to hype the weather.

I think over the air TV transmission is going to be regarded as too costly, too inefficient and just to obsolete to continue with much longer. The high-powered transmitters may run over 500,000 watts. The power bill every month to run them must be HUGE! Paying rent for the land towers sit on is an additional expense but is probably a good tax write off.
Then people complain about poor reception. If you live in a metal sided building, you won't have any. If not but live over 50 or 60+ miles away from the transmitters, one has to resort to the expense of an outdoor antenna. The new ATSC 3.0 system will improve reception somewhat, but it won't make much difference. It will still be attractive for stations to abandon their costly transmitters and totally get online for streaming. Savings from doing that would hopefully be used to help pay for better local programming.

You are not wrong in regards to the operating costs. I still consume local TV on Over the Air rabbit ears. It's free and quick. Much like FM Radio in the car. I know I can get it via streaming or an App, but for a quick weather hit or literally coming home and hitting a button to quickly get information on my flatscreen TV.
However, with home internet access pushing 95%, I think you are right with local stations essentially turning to streaming exclusively in the future, and advertisers will love all the metrics that come with it.

Their new morning setup feels so forced. Jed is now the traffic guy. Swope now gives the weather every 7 minutes. Guy named Colby who took Storme’s place looks very uncomfortable and Marsh continues with her annoying laugh.

Still lots of room for improvement but already 110% better than the old morning cackle fest.
Brett 06-16-2024, 09:21 PM Does anybody know if Mecca Rayne is still working at KOCO? I remember her getting engaged. I haven't seen her on the air for about a month now. TIA.
I noticed that Mecca Rayne is no longer listed as a KOCO news team member. I am curious if there was a public announcement of her departure?
Bowser214 06-16-2024, 10:48 PM Yes. On air and social media. I think she’s getting out of the news industry.

That is correct. I asked a friend who works at KOCO and he told me she wanted to spend more time raising her kids. Bravo to her but I will miss her newscasts.
TornadoKegan 06-21-2024, 09:58 PM In my opinion KFOR has went from one of the best news channels to the worse news channel in the okc market since nexstar bought them out. Also as for Mike Morgan. Anyone know who his replacement may be i know he is nearing retirement age (nothing confirmed on him leaving just curious)
I think Emily from KFOR or Lacey from KWTV might be some good guesses for his replacement.
Bunty 06-21-2024, 11:57 PM Mike Morgan is 60, so it's 6 more years before he can retire at full retirement age and longer than that if he still loves doing the weather. But if he is sick and tired of doing the weather he can retire in just 2 years at 62.
The noon news on KFOR is awful. It's just a rehash of the previous day's news. It's better to watch the noon time news on KWTV-9 for updated news.

Yes, but KFOR has Mr. Food :)

Wow, only 60. I feel like he has been doing weather for forever in Oklahoma. He joined KFOR in 1993, was at KOCO before that for a few years (along side Jon Slater), which means he was about 16 or 17 when he was at KJRH in Tulsa?
If you follow his social media, his family is heavily invested into OKC, his wife is a ER Nurse, his son is the band director at Edmond Memorial.
I imagine he can stay at KFOR for at least another 10 years if he wanted. I imagine Emily would be his replacement, she has been at KFOR for 15 years.
TornadoKegan 07-29-2024, 05:19 PM KFOR is getting yet another Reporter, that is from Amarillo
