Bunty 05-05-2010, 11:11 PM I know the stats say Oklahoma is fat. I know that. But I live in the DC area and whenever I go home to OKC, I feel like a tub of lard in comparison to otehr Okies - just let fit. I always swear that I will get in shape when I get back to this area after vacation but when I do, I look around and I am the thinnest woman on the block and feel less inspired. I can't explain it. I know the stats. I also know what I see... Then try going to the restauants. I see too many fat people when I go to a restaurant, like Texas Roadhouse. You risk getting fat there from eating all the peanuts and roles that you want, though. RedDirt717 05-06-2010, 08:13 AM Then try going to the restauants. I see too many fat people when I go to a restaurant, like Texas Roadhouse. You risk getting fat there from eating all the peanuts and roles that you want, though. You do know that's anywhere you go in the country right? jstaylor62 05-06-2010, 10:09 AM How did D.C. score so high with all the crack heads they have? Caboose 05-06-2010, 05:21 PM How did D.C. score so high with all the crack heads they have? Well, they are scoring for "lean" not "healthy". Smoking crack does make you skinny. ronronnie1 05-13-2010, 03:58 PM How did D.C. score so high with all the crack heads they have? The same could be said about Oklahoma City with all the meth heads. :irule: Peach fuzz 05-13-2010, 11:16 PM Dont know if this is any use for the thread starter now but for FWIW, I happen to be a gym rat and could tell you things to do everyday that will maximize your efforts. 1. Drink AT LEAST 1 gallon of water a day. Studies show that this will maximize your body's metabolism and increase it in the range of 50%... wow how easy is that just drink a gallon everyday and notice the results. 2. Dont become a cardio queen. Ever see people who go to the gym (or walk all the time?) You might notice their efforts produce very minimul results for the time spent. Reason? You need to gain muscle mass!!!! Muscle mass further increases metabolism and continuously eats away at fat and energy reserves ( carbs, stubborn belly and arm fat etc...) more so than walking/jogging/elipticals. If you are a cardio queen, my suggestion would be to at least lift with light weights to get your muscles going. Then run afterwards. (***If you start off running it takes your body 20 minutes just to start burning fat VS. immediate burn off after you lift!!!***) Make sure every workout you do is VERY SLOW and CONTROLLED for strength and resistance. The slower you work out the more muscle mass and more weight loss and so forth... 3. Another quick tip is to take a sip of water between every bite and chew your food very slowly, obviously casuing your stomache to become full much quicker and relieving your appetite. Also when working out, If you can remember the key to turning your body around very fast is to nuke your muscles. By nuke I mean beat them up, make them hurt, feel the pain and work through it! It's so hard but so worth it! I try to nuke my core 3 times a day along with whatever else I'm working on that day so I make sure I hit those GROWTH REPS( the last part of your reps that are very tough, if you hit these you have obtained maximum growth and you will see results much quicker. Theres a couple of very easy tips that we you can try and I promise you WILL see results. The hard part would be trying to increase muscle mass. One more tip if youre home all day try doing what I call a 'Power hour'- which I started as 50 pushups per hour and gradually increased. If you can do more then DO MORE! I am a part of an investment group and have been training. We are going to open a chain of gyms and OKC will be the target of a couple which we plan of starting this coming fall. I will let you know, I hope someone can take something out of this. oneforone 05-17-2010, 04:02 AM I understand the purpose of educating people on fitness and diet. Then again, I think we have too many busy bodies in society today. No what you do... you are alway going to have that group of people who live carelessly. Sometimes it's stress that makes people do the things they do sometimes it's just a poor self image. I have one simple solution for converting people to health lifestyles. If you eat right and excercise(basically take care of yourself), you get a discount on medical services and insurance. Peach Fuzz... I think I may try the water regimen. Thanks. Bunty 05-17-2010, 11:58 AM Yeah, people probably don't get rewarded enough to do the right thing in this society. Eating right and not being fat isn't easy with a lot of people. Peach Fuzz... I think I may try the water regimen. Thanks. Good! I got my dad started on the gallon a day back in feb. He was at 318 and now he is 289, He's not able to lift or exercise much until he gets his weight down but it is working. If you do it tell me how you progress. I associate gyms being only for people who are already in good shape, want to maintain it, or get in even better muscular shape. So from not wanting anything to do with a gym, I started on Power 90 Boot Camp DVD, or what was the rage on TV before P90X. I'm getting some noticeable results with it after a month. You said the hard part was to increase muscle mass. No, to me the hard part is maintaining motivation to keep it up at a daily rate. It would take tremendous motivation, which I'm not sure I have, to work up to 50 push ups at a time and yet more from there. dmoor82 05-18-2010, 10:53 AM The same could be said about Oklahoma City with all the meth heads. :irule: ^^LOL,You beat me to it! Gyms are associated with meat heads and people that for the most part are in shape... which is terrible because it drives the normal human beings away. What I meant by the hard part being to increase muscle mass you nailed right on the head. Motivation for the very hard parts... hell I'm a year out of college football and I have a a terrible time getting my rear in gear ronronnie1 05-19-2010, 01:21 AM Work out at home, Bunty. That's what I do. But I have done the gym thing ONCE before. Basically, nobody who's there working out cares what others are doing or what they look like. Everyone there is concentrating on doing their own thing to care really. Also, diet is a huge part. I'm gonna get flamed for this, but if you can become borderline anorexic, you'll never have to worry about your weight again. Consuming less calories = slower metabolism. Slower metabolism = live longer. Was chunky in high school. Went ano 15 years ago, and now I'm the envy of all my friends. oneforone 05-19-2010, 12:21 PM The best thing a begginer can do.... is what I am doing. I have not been in a gym since my military days. However, a few minor and moderate health issues have motivated me to get back after it and start going again. I have a found a good 24 hour gym that has locations around the metro. I make it a point to go at non peak times. I get full access to every piece of equipment and the people are little more friendly then the fitness freaks who go during peak times which are usually early/mid mornings and in the evenings. My goal is to just get fit and trim and stay there. I have no interest in bulking up and taking 9 kinds of supplements. mark 05-19-2010, 04:38 PM Dont know if this is any use for the thread starter now but for FWIW, I happen to be a gym rat and could tell you things to do everyday that will maximize your efforts. 1. Peach fuzz 05-21-2010, 08:12 AM Put it to you like this, For every gallon of water, youd need to drink about 1.25 gallons of tea due to the dehydrating nature of caffein. Bunty 05-22-2010, 01:16 AM You do know that's anywhere you go in the country right? Yes, so I try not to go to a restaurant more often than once or twice a week. It's too much of a guilt trip to go to one with so many fat people around reminding me what happens when you indulge. All the rolls and peanuts you can eat at the Texas Roadhouse is indulging. Never mind the various all you can eat buffet restaurants, including Mazio's at lunch time.. Peach fuzz 05-23-2010, 01:07 AM Isnt it actually a good thing to eat those peanuts before the meal? Organic food that will dull the hunger and maybe leave a few bites off that healthy burger? oneforone 05-23-2010, 10:14 PM Yes, so I try not to go to a restaurant more often than once or twice a week. Never mind the various all you can eat buffet restaurants, including Mazio's at lunch time.. Maybe should spend less time worrying about everyone else and more time just enjoying life. If you make the effort to eat right and excercise chances are likely you will live a long life. Then again chances are you may come down with an illness that is common among not so healthy people. There are many healthy people out there who have cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other condtions that just popped at one point time even though they made every effort to take care of themselves. Life is a gamble no matter what you do. Nobody is perfect, everyone has flaws. Just because you want turn a blind eye to your flaws and focus on everyone else's does not mean your flaws go away. Vanity is not everything. A kind compassionate heart and the abilty to see the value of every soul will attract more friends then vanity will in a millon years. Peach fuzz 05-24-2010, 07:16 PM Just logged on and on msn home page it has OKC: Most unfit city in the U.S..... I believe it now, went to a restaurant yesterday and was disgusted... its like we dont give a damn anymore Bunty 05-24-2010, 09:47 PM I'm telling you. It makes you wonder how those obese, mega breasted women get in and out of the booths, in places like the Texas Roadhouse, especially trying to get out after stuffing themselves. I reckon once people get married why care any more to keep looking good? I'm still having luck in keeping my weight under 200 lbs, while trying to stick with a program of lifting barbells and doing pushups every other day. The expense of food helps keep me disciplined to not eat more than I do. Buying a box of a dozen Krispy Kremes is a silly, expensive frill to me. But a lot of people don't look at that way. Food is the prime joy of their lives. rileygsd 06-05-2010, 02:54 PM I reckon once people get married why care any more to keep looking good? Being married with children is a main motivator for me to get back into shape. After my second baby I was way out of shape but I wanted to be a good example for my kids. I finally went to a fitness bootcamp ( Go Warrior fitness (Go Warrior fitness Camp) | MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/gowarriorfitnesscamp) ) and they whipped me back into shape. They gave me a diet to follow and everything. I know I couldn't have done it by myself. progressiveboy 06-05-2010, 05:00 PM I'm telling you. Like drugs, alcohol, sex, food etc.....they all can "become" addictions to some people. They are filling a void. Bostonfan 06-06-2010, 08:04 AM I'm telling you. Food is the prime joy of their lives. Funny you mention that. Yesterday we went out to eat. There was a couple that sat near us. The man was in a booth, but the lady was sitting in a chair. She was so big, there was no way she was getting in a booth. You should have seen her eat. Holy cow, it was amazing. Bunty 06-08-2010, 07:01 PM Well, it's just getting too sad and pitiful in the land of plenty. kevinpate 06-08-2010, 07:06 PM Put it to you like this, For every gallon of water, youd need to drink about 1.25 gallons of tea due to the dehydrating nature of caffein. Enjoying an extra 32 oz of cold cold tea v. plain water? Not a problem in my book. Of course, if someone is heavily sweetening the tea, that extra qt. might be contributing to a different problem. Fortunately, there be ways around that issue. |
