Looks like that one might skirt the west side of OKC...Morgan said that one had reports of baseball sized hail.

venture

Circulation is down on the west side storm. Hail is over 3" now on radar estimates.

EDIT: Appears it is cycling. Inflow notch is developing again on it...and it has split off from the line. Tail end charlie go.

got any good chaser feeds your keeping up with Venture?

looks to me that the Blaine/Canadian storm is breaking off and going more SSE than the main line which is continuing SE..

ha! I'm liking how there is a nice space/break that might just miss all of us here in Edmond and the Metro! Yay!

jstanthrnme
05-13-2009, 08:07 PM
well.. looks to me like OKC proper's excitement for the day was really early this morning.

venture
05-13-2009, 08:13 PM
Looks like right now the western and NE Metro will be the only parts impacted. There are some indications the line may try to start filling back in again soon. Also additional moisture is moving in the from SW to maybe get the dryline in play here. However it looks like the cap will hold in that area right now. We'll have to wait and see though.

Large hail core with hail over 1" will pass along the central and eastern sides of Edmond in a few. Looks like it should stay east of Kelley. Additional back building development is possible. Storms have transitions to the hail/wind threat, tornado threat should be very low for the rest of the night for the metro.

New tornado warning for the Gracemont area.

Urgent - immediate broadcast requested
severe thunderstorm watch number 298
nws storm prediction center norman ok
940 pm cdt wed may 13 2009

the nws storm prediction center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for portions of

northwest arkansas
southern and eastern oklahoma
a small part of northwest texas

effective this wednesday night and thursday morning from 940 pm until 400 am cdt.

Hail to 2 inches in diameter...thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph...and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 105 statute miles east and west of a line from 30 miles northwest of harrison arkansas to 35 miles west southwest of ardmore oklahoma.
For a complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline update (wous64 kwns wou8).

Remember...a severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.

Other watch information...continue...ww 293...ww 295...ww 296...ww 297...

Discussion...a broken band of severe storms...with some embedded supercells...continues to develop swd/sewd along the cold front across ok. Despite the loss of daytime heating...strong instability and pronounced convergence/low-level frontogenesis will help maintain existing storms and support new development for the next several hours. Large hail can be expected with the strongest storms...while the damaging wind threat should increase some as a result of storm mergers/interactions and subsequent cold pool and small bow echo formation.

Okay that was way too close! I wasn't done bowling, but finished 3 games. Extremely heavy rain and I guess pea to dime size hail. The circulation they was reporting was just down the street from my apt, and over Luke's house. It went over mom's house as well. On the drive home (just got home now), heavy rain, poor visual, streets flooded, 44th flooded, the apt parking is flooded. Lightnings insane. Fuzzy the cat going berserk, I'm trying to type this. Amazing storm! I'm frickin soaked!

Glad nothing touched down on the southside. I still hate the EAS warnings..dbl grrrrrr. PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORMAN OK
920 AM CDT THU MAY 15 2009

...DAMAGE SURVEYS TODAY...

METEOROLOGISTS ARE CONDUCTING DAMAGE SURVEYS TODAY TO INVESTIGATE
TORNADOES AND WIND DAMAGE THAT OCCURRED ON WEDNESDAY MAY 13TH.

SO FAR WE HAVE CONFIRMED A TORNADO THAT BEGAN ABOUT 9 MILES SOUTH OF
NARDIN AT 654PM AND ENDED AT 705PM. WE ALSO BELIEVE THERE WAS A
BRIEF LANDSPOUT TORNADO 1 MILE EAST OF FAY IN DEWEY COUNTY

WE WILL BE SURVEYING DAMAGE FROM GRACEMONT TO ANADARKO TO CADDO
COUNTY TO TRY TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE
THERE. PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF DAMAGE REPORTS AND RADAR DATA
INDICATE MUCH OF THE DAMAGE MAY HAVE BEEN REAR FLANK DOWNDRAFT
WINDS...AND GIVEN THE COMPLEX STORM EVOLUTION THAT TOOK PLACE IT MAY
BE DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE DEFINITIVELY WHAT HAPPENED.

WE WILL LIKELY BE LOOKING AT DAMAGE AT LAKE STANLEY DRAPER WHERE
DAMAGE CONCIDES WITH AN IMPRESSIVE RADAR SIGNATURE THAT PROMPTED A
TORNADO WARNING FOR THE OKC METRO AREA.

WHILE A GROUND SURVEY IS NOT PLANNED FOR KAY AND NOBLE COUNTIES...WE
WILL BE COORDINATING CLOSELY WITH EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TO GATHER
DETAILS ON DAMAGE TO HELP MAKE A DETERMINATION OF TORNADO INTENSITY.

WE WILL RELEASE INFORMATION AS SOON AS WE HAVE IT.

Spoiler alert....there is a complete idiot in this video.

CNN has been showing the short version of this vid on their I-reports all morning. What they dont show you is what an idiot this guy is......I like to call guys like him "yahoos". I hesitated to post this because I didnt want to give him any publicity. I was going to post the version on youtube yesterday but it was removed by Mr. Ambrosia because he was getting to many negative comments. And rightly so. He gives serious storm chasers and spotters a bad reputation. Anyhow....here it is. My idiot of the day award goes to Micheal Ambrosia....who does it just for the thrills and money. I hope the police see this and take away his drivers license. Like I said I hesitated to post this yesterday because of the publicity....I guess since hes all over CNN now its too late....so here it is. Notice hes not only speeding and driving recklessly, but filming with his "free hand" at 100+ mph.

Reading some of the comments on ST, it is pretty clear...the old days of chasing are gone. I didn't start chasing on the plains until the mid to late 90s, but chasing them and now are so vastly different. The population of "chasers" has soared a ton and everyone is out there with their toys. While I can't say I didn't have my share, I never went over the edge with decals, lightbars, or a mobile weather station on my car. I was out there to see if I could nail the forecast, pick the right place, and enjoy the structure and power of mother nature.

Today? These yahoos are out there with no care for anyone else's life. They are wanting to get the close up video so they can make some money and get their name on the news.

The speeds topping 120-130mph are just effin stupid. On wet roads, with traffic, on a two lane highway. These are the people you would not mind seeing wrapped around a telephone pole before they hurt or kill someone else.

I hope the authorities do more than just take away his license. This was nothing more than a publicity stunt. I believe this is him as well: Ambrosia ?acting? on desire to serve in the Missouri National Guards (http://www.whiteman.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123083363)

Notice...he is an actor who is probably out of work. How best to get a job then plaster your face all over the media, even if it was doing something stupid. I'm sorry. No responsible chaser in their right mind would be going that fast on a wet road while video taping with one hand in traffic.

Oh these people just get me so PO'd at what they are doing to the community. Morons like this reduce the public perception of the chasing community and then local law enforcement starts losing trust in what the responsible ones do. 7-8 years ago you could be on the side of the road and a officer would come over to chat and ask about the weather. Now, you are more likely going to get ticketed or harassed.
