OKCisOK4me 06-15-2009, 05:06 PM I was there this past Saturday for my friend's bachelor party. You might have remembered him. Bald dude wearing a white polo shirt and jeans...you made him chug that Crown & Coke like it was a Mind Eraser!
Anyway, I had a good time while I was in there and I think it'll be a huge success even if the place is non smoking.
Good luck on breaking that record. You're gonna have funny fingers after that's all over!
JimmyC 06-16-2009, 02:05 AM John Kenerson - where the heck have u been?? PLEASE come in and play some drums with us again and I will buy the beers!
JimmyC 06-16-2009, 02:14 AM Andrew - when you come out, make sure and come up and introduce yourself to me and Papi - look forward to meeting you at the club! Jimmy C
JimmyC 06-16-2009, 02:14 AM Chug that drink, chug that drink!
JimmyC 06-16-2009, 02:23 AM Your facts are wrong and if they are correct, why didn't you just pay the $7 door cover ($7 X 6 PEOPLE IS $42)vs. $80 for 2 tables?
I know the answer and it is unfortunate that you insinuate foul play on our club's part or just cannot do math. We charge a premium for reserved seating. That price has been and still is $10/per person for a 4-top ($40 for the table). If you have 5 or 8 people it is still 2 tables - $40 x 2 = $80. It seems that you wanted reserved seating for you and 4 friends - at the $7 cover/person price that everyone else was paying. Not how it works and we are sorry u are disappointed (you are the exception if you were not happy with your experience) but I know my partner Papi and he runs a congenial and top-notch ship, gratis and comps when appropriate. Try City Walk maybe, they have 1 cover and you can go to 6 or 7 different-type clubs for the 1 cover.

JohnKenerson 06-19-2009, 03:05 PM Sorry Jimmy, I've been working with my new band and haven't been able to make it out. I hope to be out sometime in the near future.
rfjeep12 07-05-2009, 05:54 PM been to MM twice in the last few months and both times had an absolute BLAST! The non smoking makes it really nice. All our waitresses have been very good, even when it's slammed. can't wait to go back.

liem336 07-19-2009, 07:44 PM Hi,
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Michael Murphy's! Papi, you have amazing energy and kept us entertained the entire evening. I also give kudo's to Jenny Lynn...very talented girl and Jimmy C...amazingly talented as well. We loved you all!
This was my first time ever experiencing dueling piano's...what a GREAT time!
I do have a few things to say about the pricing which made me a bit ornery. We made reservations for 8-two tables of 4. We were told that it would be $45/table. Ok, everything I had read here said a table of 4 would be $40, but oh, well...I guess inflation since it was first posted back in April.
We then were told that we would get a bucket of beer at no extra cost. We arrived at 7:45, found our tables and paid the lovely gal our $45/table. We had been drinking our beers for about 15 minuets when our waitress came back and told us that we would each need to pay 5% gratuity. WHAT? We weren't told this when we made the reservations and it caught us off guard, but we went ahead and paid it anyway, what else were we to do?
I just want to say they need to have the prices posted somewhere so that we are aware what the "actual" cost will be. I had also checked out the official Michael Murphy's home page and no costs were listed.
We all had a great time Sat. July 18th....thanks for an awesome show, we WILL be going again but will come better prepared money wise. I just hope there won't be any new surprises on cost again.
:yourock:
CCOKC 07-20-2009, 09:14 AM My husband and I went for the first time Friday night. The place was packed and we had a great time. There was definitely people of all ages there. And Ice Ice Papi is something I just can't get out of my mind.
JimmyC 07-30-2009, 05:34 AM Thank you all for the kind words. We are working to get the table price point right. If you are at the club and have a concern about pricing, etc., please talk with Dave Mancuso. He is our GM, a great guy and will make sure that you are taken care of. The people in OKC are awesome and it is the energy of the crowd that makes the show ~ we just do our best to try to cover requests while being a little silly at the same time. Love you guys and gals!

PokeyePierce 08-20-2009, 08:12 AM Hey Papi,
I think you guys need to expand. The last few times we've been by, its standing room only and a line out the door.

That's how a piano bar should be... :kicking:
RedDirt717 08-22-2009, 08:27 AM I'm freaked out at how much Bricktown has grown in the last 5 years.
My favorite bar in DC was a place called Mr. Smith's. It was a piano bar, way too much fun. I'll have to swing by this place next time I'm in the city.
PennyQuilts 08-23-2009, 06:53 AM RedDirt, where in DC were you living? I've been out here 9 years (husband ten) and can't wait to get home. It is a great place to visit, though.

No way, I was in Potomac, MD. Took the Redline at the Rockville Metro to work every day. Mean commute.
I worked at a little non profit called Mobilize.org, and then The Heritage Foundation on the Hill.
Decided put my political career on hold to go into healthcare. I'm currently getting my pre-reqs for Physician Assistant school at UCO.
DC was a lot of fun, I had a blast while I was out there. It really doesn't hold a match to OKC though as far as quality of life in concerned. I mean walking by the Capitol every day to work was a special experience, just basking in the nostalgia really did it for me. Oklahoma is where it's at though, I did a lot of traveling while I lived in DC all over the country and I can honestly say there isn't any place I've been in the country that's like OKC. It's really cool to see the downtown area mature, I mean i was only in DC for a few years and when I got back we had a Coyote Ugly, America's Pub, an (new) NBA basketball team, plans for Devon tower and skydance bridge. It's pretty incredible to be back, hope you get to make it back to the land of milk and honey soon.
native 08-23-2009, 09:27 AM The only thing I could recommend is increasing the lighting for the crowd. My favorite piano bar is Howl at the Moon in Chicago. The whole bar is well lit. I think it promotes more interaction within the crowd. That's what makes a piano bar fun.
JohnKenerson 08-23-2009, 09:50 AM Jimmy & Papi,
It was great playing drums with you guys again. Call me if you need a sub.
John

Thanks, I began packing, last month. Bound and determined to get back by 2010. And yes, that is a mean commute - I used to come in from Huntington (Yellow line) all the way to Silver Spring on the red line. A fistfight just to get to work. Husband still commutes in on the VRE from Quantico to L'enfant. We won't miss the commuting, let me tell ya.
But back to topic! (sorry guys)

and a helluva piano bar! :)
MadMonk 08-29-2009, 01:42 PM JimmyC and Papi, thanks for making my wife's birthday unforgettable. You guys have an awesome show. Our group had a great time last night and we'll definitely be back again.
Richard at Remax 08-29-2009, 08:47 PM is there any way I can buy the "free beer tomorrow" neon sign?
kevinpate 08-30-2009, 01:14 PM Not much on elbow to elbow places ... what night is generally considered the least crowded?
jbrown84 08-31-2009, 03:13 PM In my experience, if you go later in the evening, like 12:45-1:00am, the crowd has thinned out as people go other places to end their night.
kevinpate 08-31-2009, 09:17 PM Hmmm, not much of a late nighter anymore, but I'll keep that in mind.
jpmoney 08-31-2009, 11:55 PM It would be nice if you guys were open more days a week...I happen to work Wed-Sat every week and would love to make it sometime. No sympathy for non-Mon-Fri'ers?
karlanee 09-21-2009, 09:10 AM My husband and I went to Michael Murphy's for the first time on Saturday night. We had a blast! We got there early, before the show started, and got a great seat at one of the rail tables in front of the bar. I was very impressed with the no smoking - made it a lot more enjoyable when you're with an asthmatic. Also, I loved how the crowd age was so varied. There were college aged people all the way up to 60-year-old couples. Love that!
Pappy and the guys were great. Our only complaint was the sound. We had such a hard time hearing/understanding anyone besides Pappy. At first we thought it was the sound system on the west piano mic, but it didn't seem to matter where the other two guys were sitting - we still couldn't understand them. But we also wondered how much of it is that we're almost 40 and our hearing isn't what it used to be. LOL It didn't matter too much, but it would have been even more fun if we could have heard/understood what was being said. I have to say - I was very impressed with the bouncer that worked the front stage area. When people got a little too drunk and started going on stage uninvited, he would dance right up to them and dance them off the stage. Funny and great technique!
The drinks were awesome as well!
We will definitely be back, again and again and again.
JimmyC 09-30-2009, 02:58 PM Thanks to all the kind commetns. I will be there this weekend with some great guys. Yes, the sound has been a problem from the beginning, but you could hear Papi without a PA, believe me, sometimes he yells at me and I hear him here in Colorado!
Jon, you are always invited to jam with us ~ anytime!
jimmy
Thank you for the continued feedback guys. We really appreciate it!
On a sidenote...you guys are gonna want to get your NYE tickets soon, as Jimmy C and I are leaving Oklahoma after January to build a new Dueling Piano bar in Denver. So our days are numbered. Call ahead and find out what shows Jimmy C and Papi are playing and we will have some good times before we leave!
Oklahoma has been a BLAST and we have really enjoyed bringing our style of show to the area...
karlanee 11-17-2009, 11:37 AM Say it isn't so!
warreng88 11-17-2009, 12:59 PM Thank you for the continued feedback guys. We really appreciate it!

Who is going to be replacing you all?
kevinpate 11-17-2009, 01:03 PM Who is going to be replacing you all?
Or will this be another in a long line of BT 'turn off the lights, the party's over' events.
MadMonk 11-17-2009, 11:18 PM Denver in January? Are you guys nuts? <jk>
I won't be about to make it out before you leave, but good luck to you.
Thanks guys! Unfortunately the powers that be have decided to turn out the lights on us a lil sooner! We were cancelled by the "owners" and now Jimmy C only has a few dates as I have been asked to leave! Dont understand how these nightclub folk in OKC work..but apparently a packed bar with people wishing we were open more nights is not good enough in this town.
We appreciate all the support and will check on you guys from time to time.
In the meantime..we have some great up and coming talent that is going to take our place (arent we nice guys, get the boot but still leave em good) and they are gonna do great.
Murphys has no intention of shutting down..and even if it did..the owners would just turn it into something else.
But again, thanks..and keep supporting our friends over there even thought the owners are douchebags! Cept for Bobby Spann...hes cool!
Of Sound Mind 12-08-2009, 07:57 AM It's really a damn shame. My wife and I had some great times there when you and Jimmy C were playing. Seemed to me that you all had a good thing going. Wonder why the owners decided they needed to "fix" something that obviously wasn't broke. It certainly makes me wonder if we will ever be back.
Best of luck, Papi!
CCOKC 12-08-2009, 02:28 PM Yes, I will always remember Ice, Ice Papi fondly.
karlanee 12-08-2009, 02:35 PM I think my favorite will always be Green Eggs and Ham sung in the style of Neil Diamond or as a rap song.
kevinpate 12-08-2009, 03:35 PM I think my favorite will always be Green Eggs and Ham sung in the style of Neil Diamond or as a rap song.
Oh great, now I got ND voices singing in me noggin' the rest of the freakin' afternoonie. PFFFFFFFFFFFFFT!!!!
JohnKenerson 12-19-2009, 10:28 AM Interesting. Maybe not getting a gig there was a blessing in disguise.
