So Venture, is what your saying is that in our neck of the woods(okc area) that it will not be a "significant event" as it was supposed to be? I feel for the ppl in NW Oklahoma, but i think around here, it was much ado about nothing...

Saw a little snow out here in yukon, but its still wet out.

Correct. All current indications is that this will not be a major snow event by any means for Oklahoma City. I would expect most of the warnings will be dropped for Snow or Winter Weather Advisories. Winds will be in the 20-30mph range with some higher gusts. Snow fall rates may be higher in any convective snow bands that form north of the system as it moves south of us. I'm not going to rule out any snow bursts that'll dump a quick couple inches, but if you are waiting for a landmark history making end of the world storm - maybe next year. : )

I'm going to go on record with a bold (and uneducated) prediction and say there will be ZERO accumulation in the vicinity of downtown OKC.

I'm going to go on record and say that Mike Morgan will once again say on the Monday night edition of News Channel 4, "Boy, we dodged a bullet here in OKC this weekend, hahahahahah".

Gary England

"I don't see how anyone will survive outside this weather."

Mike Morgan

"This is a dangerous storm! Do not step outside! This is the worst blizzard in history!"

Rick Mitchell

"This is a lovely storm event. Kids can play outside, make snowangels, slide down a hill, and have a snowball fight. Parents can have intimate moments by the fireplace."

I'm surprised that Brady Bruss isn't on TV at this moment interrupting
anything worth watching with, "there might be as much as 1/64 to 1/32 of
an inch of total snow accumulation during this storm. There's nothing what
so ever to be concerned about but we'll keep it right here and have 1/2 of
the screen blocked with our weather map."

This storm, or whatever, won't keep me from doing what needs to be done.

Between 1 and 1:30am, I went out to get something to eat. I noticed lite snow.

I checked the radar and it was showing mix.

Thirty minutes later, I checked and I am now seeing a burst of snow over the southern side of the metro and moving on thru.

I think that we should expect sum exploding developments across the metro. With that, it will help us gain more accumlinations while the main storm out west get closer.

..::EDIT::..

It appears that the entire system is stalling or had done so already. It's just slowly spinning around. I believe it will stick around a lot longer than earlier predicted.

Quick update before turning in for the evening.

Light snow has developed across the I-35 corridor from Noble to Guthrie. Some light to moderate snow in the band north of Edmond. Accumulations should be restricted to a dusting from this activity.

Banding wrap around is now filling in some in western Oklahoma as storm system moves close. Winds are now 20-30mph throughout most of this area, though some sections are not reporting due to mesonet sites frozen from freezing rain. Some minor blowing and drifting in these areas.

Looks like bulk of activity will be after sunrise for the state. Most models for the time period keep main snow band now in the panhandle on a track going NE, missing the OKC metro area. The one outlying example will be the latest RUC run which shows redevelopment of the band across the I-35 area around 10AM until early afternoon. Accumulations in this band would be anywhere from 0.5 to 1.0" per hour.

Precip amounts look good, no changes here. There are a few pockets of heavier cells in western Oklahoma right now. There is some thundersnow activity right now in Woods and Alfalfa counties. Snow rates in this area will be higher - around 1-2" an hour or more.

I'm going to re-run the radar for the overnight hours. Lightning information will be overlayed to show areas of thundersnow. Image won't be very high quality since this is Level 3 data which isn't as detailed as Level 2 or the TWDR images from TOKC.

Scattered snowshowers continue to redevelop across the metro, but none of them are holding, but new ones are still popping up. Futurecast is showing heavy snowshowers for several hours across the metro.

Quick update...

Scattered light snow continues across Metro area, but we are still under the dry slot which is wrapping all the way into the storm now. Snow band in the Panhandles is weakening quickly, with main portion just in Beaver County OK. Secondary snow band in Western Oklahoma is weakening as well. The batch heading through SW Oklahoma is holding its own, but is breaking off from the rest. Precip looks like it will remain high on the border counties of Harper, Woods, Alfalfa.

There may be some brief redevelopment through the day, but this thing is occluding out and the dry slot is choking it off.

UPDATE 445PM: NWS Norman has started to downgrade advisories as expected. All Winter Storm Warnings (except far north) have been canceled and downgraded to Winter Weather Advisories. Blizzard Warnings remain due to blowing snow, but I would expect those to get replaced eventually with Blowing Snow Advisories.

Unbelievable, they are still trying to play this up. Guy on 9 just said, "It's not a good day to be traveling in the metro." What?? The freakin streets are wet!!!!!! Listening to this guy you would think they are snow packed.

A lot of disappointed kids this morning.. They were all looking forward to playing in the snow all day.

Oh well, better than a lot of accidents and power failures.

What a dud.

I agree. It was a total bummer.

There's nothing more than a light dusting (maybe 1/4") inch on rooftops and cars in my neighborhood. Streets and sidewalks are wet, but otherwise fine. Grass has intermittent dusting, and you can tell where it seeped in. Definitely not enough for the puppies to go play in.

I wonder if my new neighbors from Florida will at least get to appreciate it a little. I don't know if they've ever seen snow. They've been in OK about a month and have already experienced a tornado event, and now this. Wonder what they must be thinking.

Not according to Jim Cowan via twitter. He says the weathermen hurt the local economy. Check out OKC Central (http://blog.newsok.com/okccentral/) for the discussion on that.

try to stay dry today haha

Since I read a headline the other day about how the US Senate is looking in to how football teams are voted for, maybe they can also investigate why it did not snow in central Oklahoma like our weather guys said it would, lol...

The local weather people are a joke. How many times does this happen? It happens over and over again. They get everyone alarmed and then, little or nothing. Hundreds of activities and events were cancelled as early as yesterday, for events today. Wow, those wet streets out there must be hazardous. I would be embarassed to go back on the air after hosing the populace time after time.

Well you know, water does make it slick on roads. I guess everytime it rains, roads conditions should be reported as "slick in spots" or whatever term they wanna use. Then we would be told that travel is discouraged and that you shouldnt go out unless you have to.

I share your sentiments. All those cancellations were unnecessary, at least here in the metro area. Ugh, as Mike Gundy would say, "Makes me wanna puke"

I'm sure they do... I read all the nasty mean spirited comments this morning on the News sites, I'm sure they do too... and yes, they are human with kids and families who also hear about their 'huge weather mistakes'.

It's so easy to criticize and put people down anonymously.

I'm sure that they had good intentions in wanting to warn people to be safe. They followed the models and warnings given to them by the NWS and delivered the forecast according to that.

Give them a break.

It's snowing heavily now in Edmond, btw.

So wanted to measure to see how my last tweaked snow fall total did...a few areas in the panhandled I missed, thanks to some convective snow, and went a bit too broad with my 1-3", but eh...get better next time. Actual Reports or Spotter Reports are in the Yellow/Black text.

New snowfall in Eastern Oklahoma has been heavy at times. This will bust most of the forecast over there. LOL Oh well.

Very true. I hate to defend the local media but this is one of those boom or bust cases. It's not like the NWS was predicting 1 inch and the TV was predicting a foot. It was a bust by everyone. If that colder air would have got here 4-6 hrs earlier it would have been a total different story. But right as the dry slot arrived so did the cold temps...
