You see Grant was/is full of dips by their own admission!

you guys are too young for the Western Dip.....the Western Dip was a hang-out for the kids from Grant....The dip you're talking about is the slide that was on about 65th and Western.....The place where a young kid pulled a Coke Machine over on himself.....didn't do him too good either...

No I am speaking of 39th and Drexel on the vacant lot that is still vacant. It was there for several years then got hit by a tornado - the same one that got the A & W at 23rd and Meridian. It jumped through town in the middle of the night and hit several places.

Stoops is not going to N.D. He's got it made at OU.

If they think he is a god, maybe they should hire Lou Holtz back. After all, the shape they are in now was his doing. Holtz has never played on an even field. University of Minnesota, Notre Dame, and South Carolina were all investigated while he was there. After he left each school, they were placed on probation and received sanctions...

I just heard on the news that ND was wanting to talk to him and he said he would listen.....I wish the OU Alumni would be Alumni and not Arm Chair Quarterbacks. that guy (Stoops) has done a Great job. There's always going to be "tough" years and with the injuries OU has this is probably one of those years...O.K. I'm through about Football....Sorry to have gotten off Topic.....

All I know hot rod is that the Dip was there (51st) AT THE END OF THE 1966 Class at Grant....took my wife there for a coke before they closed it down....K.E. Smith bought the property and built the building that is there now. There was however a Slide called the Western Dip...

Western Dip closing solved!!! (PaPaOU's favorite site) I got a hold of the secretary to "Doc Smith" who now owns the property where the Dip was. She is my neighbor and has been his secretary for over 50 years. Took me a while to realize that was the same place (5201 S. Western), "The Smith Building." I called my neighbor this morning who still works for Doc Smith and got the whole scoop. The Western Dip was sold late 64 or EARLY 65 by Maureen McGehee to Al Miller. While talking to my neighbor Doc Smith came in and we got the whole poop!! He bought the property from Miller. (The Smith Bldg. was built in 65 and opened 1-1-66) My neighbor called Miller and he CONFIRMED that the Dip was going STRONG in May of 1964! He sold the property to Smith and they moved to about 58th and S. Western and operated it under the name of "The Burger Hut" and not the DIP!! My wife had been trying to tell me that but I was confused. SO, IN CONCLUSION. I humbly apologize to Gen64 for doubting his tale of after graduation story of 64. The reason I doubted it was because of his bogus Quote shown above. With all that said Gen64, I will be buying the steaks at Cattlemen's!! You should pay the tip for misleading us with the story shown above. Your RIGHT, I'm WRONG> THE END>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Why don't you boys just meet in the field after school and have
it out?

Hey! Where did the fights take place at Grant, Capitol Hill and
Southeast? I honestly don't know. Jefferson had a field just
south and west of the school where S. Blackwelder ended.

Just a minute! Are you telling me that the sign at the "Dip" on
S.W. 58th that said "Western Dip" didn't say "Western Dip"?
Maybe the title on the deed said "Burger Hut" but the sign on
S. Western definitely said, "Western Dip".

Do you sell what you're drinking by the quart or gallon?

At Capitol Hill, it was pretty much a here and now type thing. I do know there were many in the restrooms of the football stadium.
Never understood the concept of "meet me at..." or "Let's go outside!"
Okay chump. You want to go outside? Lead the way!!!!!!
A fair fight? You are going to attempt to hurt me!

It was pretty dumb to say the least.

Only fight I remember "meeting" for was 8th grade at CHJH. Over a baseball score and we met in the 2nd floor restroom. Supposed to be between classes and when it ran into class time and many of the males were absent that got the teachers and other faculty searching. Not too hard to locate, noise and a crowd. Before they could make it far enough into the restroom, we just quit and filed out with the rest. Don't think they ever found out the culprits. Of course by me being there I was under suspicion. I was always singled out or tabbed the ringleader.

Can I sue the OKC Public School System for abuse?

I'm saying the Owners said it read "The Burger Hut" and that I'm saying it read "The Burger Hut" and my wife living at 50th and South Western (most of her life) said it read "The Burger Hut." Prove me wrong, before you dispute this. I went to a lot of work to PROVE myself WRONG to Gen64!!! Thanks..... The previous owner Maureen McGeehee sold the 5201 property to this Miller fellow who sold it to Dr. Smith. I talked to Maureen's use to be next door neighbor to confirm this. Neighbor said that after selling the property she opened up the "Burger Hut" at about 58th and S. Western! I ask if she opened it up as "The Western Dip" and she said if she did it was for for a very very short time because it WAS "THE BURGER HUT" until the day it closed.

Hard to believe a little burger joint gets so much discussion. I never knew about the "Western Dip" at the 5201 S.Western location. And I'am not saying it wasn't the "Burger Hut" at about 58th and Western but, I lived in that neighborhood (61st and Kentucky) and we called it the "Western Dip". I quess the confusion comes from the relocation.

Your 100% right Mr. Gen70 and I'm done (stick a fork in me) and I'm through with "Western Dip's or 'Burger Huts." No more response from me on either one!! How is Carolina and when are you moving back to "God's Country?" You must really miss Oklahoma????

O.K.:.....Western Dip...Carltonskeeper has Never given up on anything. I remember my older sister working there for 13 cents and tips. She didn't wear roller skates but even at age 12- 14...that's right there wasn't a true child labor law in the food industry then. The law was if you wanted to work and you would then you had a job. The thing that always worried me (being a little brother) was all the "Grease Balls" back then. You know, in the late to middle fifties if you could find your parents car keys it too was fair game.....Hmmm remember the "Good old days"?????

The Western Dip at 51st and South Western closed sometime in 1964. K.E. Smith moved into HIS new building January 1st, 1966. The building was being built during the year of 1965. The secretary in mention is STILL his secretary, Bonnie Merrick! She was with him when he started in the Capitol Hill area. I think your referring to the Dip after it moved on South on Western.
