skyrick 02-13-2010, 09:46 AM The only picture I have left of my '71 Plymouth GTX. Taken in front of the only place I lived on Southside, '74-'84, Murray Drive.
It had a 440 cid engine, but not the top rated one. I think it was rated @ 350hp.. It had the Carter AFB 4bbl. I think it was Carter's answer to the Quadrajet; tiny primaries and HUGE secondaries. You put your foot in it and when those secondaries opened you got the most satisfying "ka-WHOOM!" sound out of the motor!
The speedo said 150mph, the only time I tested it was on I-35 in Kansas in '75. I had the 4-ways on and in the rear view mirror it was probably mistaken for a Highway Patrol because cars were pulling out of the left lane as I approached. At 147 mph I lost the feeling of the road in the steering wheel and also my nerve. It took about a mile of coasting to get below 100 mph. Yeah, I know it was stupid to do that on a public highway, but no one has ever accused 21 yr olds of having good judgement.

grantgeneral78 02-13-2010, 09:54 AM Where are you starting? Body, engine, interior, frame work, etc...

cool car Rick, I would like to have a hemi cuda with the shaker those are sweet
bluedogok 02-13-2010, 02:02 PM My dad's 66 LTD (same body as the Galaxie 500) had the 390 in it and the coldest A/C known to man, it would form ice around the registers. I would still prefer to redo a 71 Torino GT but that style of LTD/Galaxie would be another nice choice.

Whenever people start talking about the new Hemi cars (Challenger, Charger) I'd love to have one of the late '60s/early '70s versions nearby so I could say (in my best Crocodile Dundee Aussie accent) "Ths's no' a Hemi! This is a Hemi!"

I made the Turner turnpike in 54 minutes. I was driving a 1969 LTD. It was
impossible to know how fast I was going because the speedometer was
flopping between 100 and off the chart.
A Kawasaki Mach III (@ 1971) passed me like I was standing still at the
Stroud on ramp. He was out of sight in no time at all.

Do you know what those are going for? Mega bucks! Some are bringing over
$50K!

Notice that the hood is on top of the car. It looks out of place. We're trying
to find out where it's supposed to go. Any help will be appreciated.

'73? Can't tell unless I can see the tail lights. That's going to a cool ride.

THAT would be too cool! Hey, the guy across the street took a 71 LeMans or
Tempest and turned it into a GTO!
That's a 4-4-2 Hurst Olds! Get the tranny and you're all set. There's
probably one in that field that Gen64 is talking about. Between the Reo
Speedwagon and the 40 Willy's coupe.

Prunepicker 02-16-2010, 12:02 AM ... Know where there is a GTO right now looks like maybe '66 or '67...
I know a lady who's dad had a mint '65 GTO with about 40,000 on it. She
sold it around 2000. I hope she wasn't taken. I can hear it now, "well, lady,
it's an old car. Let's see what the Blue Book says... I'll give you top $$$"

That's not the hood....
It goes underneath to protect the car from moister and rough terrain...
Now you'll have to turn the car upside down to install it....

I thought it was the front of the car and could be used as a "snow Plow" or a Cow Catcher.......weren't those cars air-cooled engines and didn't require a hood?????

sam greenroyd 02-26-2010, 08:46 AM Don't know if anyone noticed the news w\the lady that died in the fire because her house was so cluttered up,but the shot of the garage looked like she had 2 old lincolns with the suicied doors.

This is my 1970 Mean Green Beetle.. I have had it for ~17 years. It is way better now than when I drove it in high school and college. I made it my weekend project for the past three years. Now I have this old falling down house in OKC, so the bug doesn't get any love anymore.

I thought all Beetles had molded head-rest seats after 1968. Are your's
original?
It looks very nice.

The seats are from an earlier model. I didn't like the high head rests... I drive it so rarely, it doesn't really matter. Also, there is not much besides the body that is original in it. I bought it for $300 from a farm near Pilot Point, Texas. Rusted, beat up and dead.

Prunepicker 04-13-2010, 09:42 PM Hey!
I need a reputable stainless steel craftsman who can hammer my radiator
shell so it looks new. It's got the usual dents and dings from gravel and
road debris. We are having a hard time. The man rebuilding the car won't
let it out of his shop unless it's 100% awesome. I thought it was 200%!
WOW!
Please, not the usual guys in the phone book. If it needs to shipped to
Bulgaria we'll do it. Get it? Real live old school craftsmen.
Oh, Gen64, you're going to have to have a huge garage sale to pay for
this. Thanks for offering to pay for everything. Besides, it was your big
mouth that told me about this guy!
Ya'll, this is going to be a show car! I had no idea.
Gen64 I'm going to call the Village Idiot asap.
Prune
gen70 04-13-2010, 10:07 PM Glad to hear your car is comming along so good. I used to know some guys that were real good but, can't remember their names. (It's been a long time) They were old dragster guys. George Fina might be able to direct you if, he's still around. There are plenty of guys on here that know the real craftsmen around the area.

There will be 3 dragsters on display, (one is a rail), and they will be in the competition for loudest car. Good music, and good times. Lots of door prizes. Come on out and support the families of the troops. See you there.
Prunepicker 05-04-2010, 10:11 PM Here's an update on the 31 Ford Coupe - see avatar. Osborne's repaired the
radiator, but couldn't do anything about the radiator shell. George Fina may
be doing the work. If not, he knows someone who can do it. The shell is
stainless steel. This is the only thing that's keeping the car from coming
home.
The new radiator shells aren't made as well as the originals and they don't fit
properly. They want $600 for a new one. That's not going to happen.
