View Full Version : Capitol hill high school:..not forgotten
Generals64 12-15-2009, 10:31 AM My wife had this BRILLIANT Idea to Watch the Movie GREASE.....All I could think about was Capitol High High School.....Wasn't there an automotive shop there???? Or was there a shop to teach you guys how to steal cars????
rcjunkie 12-15-2009, 11:52 AM We touched on this subject concerning Halloween carnivals at grade-schools.
During this time of year I really miss the Christmas programs put on by the junior and senior high schools.
I was in vocal music and really enjoyed singing at Shepard Mall as well as the programs put on by the school for the students and an evening performance for parents and relatives.
Most schools still have them, only under different names:
Halloween Carnival is now Fall Festival
Christmas Program is now Holiday Program
This is just a small part of what's wrong with our schools
nmania 12-15-2009, 11:02 PM They taught us both....had to repair the ones we stole from the Grant kids.

papaOU 01-12-2010, 04:41 PM Found out through a current teacher at CHHS, that when the approved MAPS money is released, CHHS will fill in the the swimming pool which is no longer being used. Anybody know when they stopped using the pool?
Generals64 01-12-2010, 04:52 PM I thought that was an open septic tank.
papaOU 01-12-2010, 08:37 PM I thought that was an open septic tank.
That would make it similar to Lightning Creek.
Does the "new" Grant have a pool? :tiphat:
papaOU 01-12-2010, 09:35 PM Just found out that the pool has been used as a batting cage for years.....

Yeah, they've had a pool since the '60's....of course it was at the YMCA.....down the street....I remember the pool at Capitol Hill Jr. High very well. We used to go there every Saturday morning during the school year....Had a lot of Fun there....

papaOU 03-07-2010, 11:29 PM Found out today that the CHHS softball season has been cancelled. Seems some of the girls beat the crap out of one of their own. I can't remember a time in grade school to high school that a fight broke out at or after practice. If you wound up on the short end of the stick you took your lumps and went on. Next day everyone were friends again.

Yeah....(please don't take this wrong) the kids in your day all understood what the other kids were saying. I don't mean that ugly or racist but the Kids of Oklahoma say some pretty strong stuff to these Hispanic kids and they don't realize that sometimes they are "stepping on" tradition that has been drilled into these hispanic kids.....I used to live in Central Texas and there were many hispanic people.....My wife and I attempted to learn their traditions and those people were so appreciative that it was ridiculous. But, do something wrong and they would "puff up" pretty quick....

I don't think the majority of Hispanic kids today have or give a crap about tradition. It's me homies or me barrio holmes........

HAHAHA I remember a fight after every football game with Grant while I was there. What is funny my brother graduated from Grant and in my neighborhood there were a mixture of Capitol Hill and Grant kids. I had good friends that went to Grant and I was the best man at one of their weddings. I had a major crush on a girl that went to Grant. I still remember her name, Dianna. It's been so long ago, back in the late 60's, the whole 60's thing, Vietnam, civil rights movement, hippies, the death of JFK, Robert Kennedy and M. L. King and the music. What a time it was. I now have a grandson and close to retirement from my second job. I was a hippie in college and you know what I did when I graduated? Joined the Marines and retired. Go figure!

Well if you live near the OKC metro area, come to one of our monthly meetings and Dianna just might be there. Or someone might be there who knows her, and being from Grant they might know her parole date:tiphat:

My brothers went to the hill, I was going to go there and they changed the school district and I went to Grant, thought the world was going to end but wound up with a lot of good friends from Grant which really helped in those after game fights.....by the way Townhero thanks for your service!!!!!!!!!!

papaOU 04-03-2010, 11:00 PM The reply concerning the article from my friend who is a current teacher at CHHS:
Hmmm... interesting. It does make a good point about not being a charter or specialty school. CHHS is the same way. we have more kids with ankle monitors on house arrest and tons who have PO's. if they get kicked out of douglass, we take them. we take kids who get kicked out of mid-del schools, too. our good kids leave us for southeast or santa fe south. a lot of our kids when to grant so they wouldn't have to wear uniforms and because of the nice building... the whole system is so screwed up. but i love my kids. they'd have to pry my dead, rigormortised body out of hillside.
papaOU 04-24-2010, 06:28 PM A current teacher at CHHS stopped at Coit's today for our monthly meeting. Shelly is the senior class sponsor and provided us with some info that we alum might be interested in. Graduation will be conducted in the field house. Prior to there will be a gathering in the library. All are invited. The school is promoting class banners to be on permanent display. Each class will design their own and the response from many classes has been great.
The MAPS project for CHHS will begin after school ends in May. The mascot embedded just inside the main entrance will be taken up and unfortunately is made of chemical properties that will make the design crumble. It will be lost. Shelly also says that complaints about the "Redskins" name and Indian emblem have once again began and the school is attempting to come up with an acceptable change.

I was very impressed with the students, staff, and facilities. We hear way too much about the bad kids while 116 graduated this evening. 7 are members of the National Honor Society. A mixture of races, white, Hispanic, black, American Indian, and one Vietnamese.
A very enjoyable evening with a great bunch of kids.

If you would like to have a piece of CHHS history, the second floor balcony at CHHS is being renovated soon and the seats are going to be sold in sets of 3 for $100.00. The money will go towards furnishing a new room that will have memorabilia from all years of CHHS. Also, if anybody has anything to donate to the room, it will be appreciated. TOWNHERO 10-07-2010, 07:43 AM I think I remember, the mascots were still there when I graduated in 1970. I knew the girl mascots, had several classes with her. She was the 1969 Homing Coming Queen, cheer leader and a 4.0 student. I have often wondered what ever happened to her. I had the biggest crush on her my soph and Jr year. Of course, nothing ever came of it, she was way out of my class! I can't tell who the male mascot is.
