I Do! I DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The name I always associated with is The Capitol Hill Ice Cream Store..........
Made their own ice cream right there.............
Cake malts............Egg malts (think you could get an egg malt at Braums?)
In the same building and to the east was the Bama Pie company. They had a shelf right inside the front door and offered free sample pies.
Prunepicker 05-06-2009, 10:36 PM One last thing does anyone remember the malt shop on 29th (capitol hill ice
cream- or something)?
The Capitol Hill Ice Cream Shop was on Commerce.
papaOU 05-07-2009, 02:16 AM The Capitol Hill Ice Cream Shop was on Commerce.
I must be too young........of course............to remember the "shop"
Going to Lee for grade school I do remember the place on 29th and it being
called the"store". Do you remember this one on 29th?
We also passed it on the way to the Capitol Hill Drive-in. An old brick building that was really just a beer joint that served food and had pinball machines. But they had great burgers. The old-fashion. Have given places a hard time for having "Old Fashioned Burgers" on the menu. An old fashioned does not have tomatoes, lettuce, cheese...................
They had a sign out side that read "Sam's Hamburgers. 5 for $1.00. There's an auto parts store there now.
Remember when you knew all the people working at the auto parts on a first name basis................
SOUTHSIDE GIRL 05-07-2009, 08:06 AM There was one on 29th and Harvey, can't remember the name of it.
USG '60 05-07-2009, 08:18 AM THAT was Capitol Hill Ice Cream. I wasn't on Commerce.

to post this question but some how lost it, so I 'll try again. Does anyone remember the
bar/grill set on the corner of 29th & Robinson?. It was a little place that had a bowling
game that you used a puck with and I think a shuffle board game. There was a little old lady that cooked the best grilled burgers, and they were 15 cents or I think 7 for a
dollar. This was fall 67 or 68. The lady would be cussing while she cooked, part of the problem might have been that people were ordering 7or 15 at a time. Go figure. ''kid''

Capito Hill Drive-in. More like a beer joint than cafe.....
That's where I got into the habit of using hot sauce on a burger...........
At one time I think it was called "Sams"..They had a sign 5 for $1.00...........
We had to play the bowling game............................

There was a shooting (shot gun style) back in the mid 60's there! A friend of mine was the shooter, not braggin' about it for sure. My brother evenutally bought the place and turned it into a car lot and then sold it to "Auto Zone." There was a beer joint on the N.E. corner of 29th and Robinson with pool tables and a grill etc. Could that be the place
"Kid 73" was referring too?????

No. This was on the southeast corner where "Auto Zone" is now. Rock building, seems there were booths and a counter inside. As you entered the door, from the west the bowling game was right there. I say it was a "beer joint" in reality because they served beer and it seems that's what the older guys were there for. It was torn down and a car lot was put in.
On the northeast corner was a brick building running from the corner to the alley. It was divided up into different business's one of which was a electronic store that serviced t.v., radio's........sold some as well.
But the burger place was on the southeast corner. At least for a time when I went to Lee and CHJH '65 to '70.
I met one of the grils I went to CHJH and CHHS and we were discussing things when I asked her if she ever went there and she said her parents would not allow her because they served beer.

chhs kid ''73'' 05-08-2009, 08:55 PM Hey,everyone out there in memory land. I got back PaPa on this. It was
on the SE corner accually a little off the corner. I believe it was two or
more car lots. And your right the bowling game was like right in first of the
door. It was definitely old school beer joint , just like The Copper Topp lounge on Robinson. But that another subject. You still said anything about
the old lady cookin the burgers and cussing her head off.:fighting2

It was in the parking lot, no one was killed! A guy I know shot another person from about 20 feet and just peppered him up good! Both were under age and nothing came of it in the end! Don't want to mention any names...

I don't know who the "shootee" was!
papaOU 05-19-2009, 06:07 PM One of the things I really miss pertains to CHHS, Grant, and S.E.; Football Fridays. When the night air is crisp.........You can hear the crowd and the bands for miles. The pa announcer heard and understood. I live in the same hood I grew up in and remember the sounds well. You could not find a parking place on the school grounds, side streets and the median running down the center of Grand. A football game was an "event". Too bad all three of our schools have fallen down......
Do you think it was busing that killed it?

I saw your post and clicked on the (favorties) link all the time thinking it was a USG link, guess I wasn't paying attention. When it came up I clicked on 70 seniors, when that came up I couldn't see anything so I randomly clicked a page. Next thing I know I'am stareing at a picture of my first wife whom I haven't seen or heard of in 35 years. It... blew... my... mind. Pure happenstance. The odds of that happening........Weird.

That is funny. I wish I knew who she is. I probably remember her.
I knew a lot of the the kids from Grant that was in the 70's grad class. I went to Roosevelt Jr High, played football, baseball with many kids from Jefferson. Played 9th grade football at Grant. Then the boundries changed and I went to CHHS. My brother graduated from Grant in 1964. Bunch of the kids from Roosevelt went to grant. One of the guys I hung out with, married my late wifes best friend. They were from NW Classen.

gen70 - That's funny that you married a girl from CHHS and you're from Grant. There is a guy that works in the building I work in, but he's in a different department. One day I was at the snack bar and he was in front of me. He asked me what my name was. It turned out that I play football with him from the 6th to the
9th grade. He graduated from Grant in 70 and he also married a girl from CHHS, but she grad in 69.
Was your wife one of the cheerleaders or royalty?

I was just trying to figure it out, since you said "Next thing I know I'am stareing at a picture of my first wife".
I left OKC after 1974 when I graduated from college. I went into the Marines. Except for a few visits I didn't live here until we moved back in 1990 and we moved to Edmond. My mother still lived on the southside, until 4 years ago we had to put her into a home. I lost track of all the people I knew while in HS. Before I met my future wife when I was a senior, like I said, I had the biggest crash on one of the cheerleaders. Since seeing the yearbooks on line, I have wondered what ever happened to her. There are others too.
gen70 05-28-2009, 11:38 AM Hey... TOWNHERO here's a clue: My first wife was a blonde on the 7th page of the senior class.
TOWNHERO 05-28-2009, 11:44 AM HAHAHAHAHA, That's funny. That's one way of doing it.

In order to send private messages they first have to be reviewed by me and if they pass inspection I will forward them. If not they will be returned to the sender with those items unacceptable highlighted.
There have been so many pm's in the last week that I am slightly behind. If you were to send a pm today it would probably we Wednesday before I could get to it.
If you would like to be a proofreader as well bring it up at the June Southsiders Meeting and we will vote.

Seems like I recently came across an article on the completion and cost. Think it was the first okc school structure to cost 1 million dollars.

This was in a newspaper. Maybe the Beacon.
papaOU 06-27-2009, 03:29 PM If you go to the website retrolife there is a photo of a "Huffy Radiobike". Today persons from Grant and S.E. use this same model to generate their pc's. Usually when at home the user can raise the back wheels making the bike stationary. There have been instances where the user just drives from room to room making the time on the pc a discovery ride. Since thier short term memory is so fuzzy they see each room as a "new" adventure.
