Hey Metro - thanks for posting this! I think okctalk helped give Oklahoma City a boost because we are up to #2! Who knows, if people keep voting we may get up to #1 and while they make no guarantees, we will certainly get their attention!

I requested it a few minutes ago and I was number 87 I think. Now it's up to 97!

Well.. I think it's an OK idea.... But what I think would be better would be communter vans pulling trailers....

For example.. I live 1 mile from I-35 on SE 59th street... I could ride my bike up to 35.. Van picks me up and I throw the bike on the trailer.... I get commuted downtown with others.. Then dropped off and I grab my bike and go... Same thing happens at the end of the day on the way home.

We are also the only city that has had such a change in one day. All the other ones have been at their respective number all day. I checked this during lunch at school and we had 49 votes. Now we have 115 votes.

It also seems that there are two sites for us. OKC, OK and Oklahoma City, OK.

Oklahoma City is located at the top of the state as said with 115 votes, and OKC is located in the correct geographical location but with only 7 votes.

I noticed that as well. Surely they match the zip codes and not the city spelling.

I agree, we like our donughts and coffee behind the wheel to much, hard to do on a bike...were spoiled

I don't think it really equates - sure you can bring something like this here, but in reality, will it be successful? I think on a limited basis it could be, but being that this is one of the largest cities in the country, landwise, bicycle commuting just would never work for most...unless you ride a bike way faster than the average person.

I feel like this would work well implemented in the inner north side and downtown area. And it doesn't matter if we are one of the largest cities landwise. I don't think they're going to be putting these racks out next to Lake Overholser or Draper. Be serious.

Our weather is too extreme for riding a bike throughout the year. Do you really want to ride a bike to and from work in December when the high is 30? Or, do you want to ride home in August when the high is 100? Cars are a necessity for modern living in OKC.

I could see it working in a suburb a long time before it would in OKC.

Might be okay if we end up getting commuter rail/a better bus system/some other viable form of public transportation. Right now, though, I just don't see it working...

Just curious how many of you naysayers actually live downtown? I live/work downtown and am confident something like this would totally take off. Granted on a small scale, but nonetheless would totally work. We're only talking a handful of bikes, probably less than 100. So you think OKC can support NBA long term filling 18,000+ seats a game for 42 games a year, but can't rent a few bicycle's a day in the heart of downtown where 8 million+ tourists a year visit? Get real....

No one said this was for biking all the way from Edmond to downtown (although plenty do that, including my dad). This would work for say, someone riding in to Bricktown from the paseo, turning in the bike, and then getting another one to ride back.

Umm, Fort Collins... Boulder... ? You think our weather is inhospitable? Obviously they know and are prepared for business to be better in the warmer months.

I didn't say that it coudln't work on a small scale, but on a scale to be viable - doubt it. You have too many people glued to their car seats here. And while it sounds nice for the downtown area, again, don't know if its enough to be viable as a business.

Our city has to start somewhere, in order to change the mindset of a community that refuses to walk, jog, or ride bicycles.

Thanks to Metro and Blair for the publicity on this. Great program! I've seen it work in other cities, why not here?

I've ridden my bike to work for the last three years. I love it and encourage others to try it. This would be a great step foward in the way Oklahoma thinks about fitness as well.

I on occasion take a bus into OKC. Most mornings there's a guy wqho rides his bike a couple of miles from home to the stop, then a couple of miles from his OKC stop. he repeats this in the eve.

He's in great shape. I think of it from time to time, but me in spandex likely violates a few of the decency laws.

some streets are so narrow and okies love their big SUVs -- it can be really dangerous to ride some places!

I think if we could just get more people riding recreationally that would be a huge step in the right direction. I think this program would really help.

I love to go for a bike ride on the nice days in OKC. But, I am not going to ride when the weather and temps are at their extremes. The market for this type of program would be very limited. Some may want to ride their bike year around, but those people are serious bikers who will want to own their own bike.
