Jax was in New Orleans. The brewery is now a museum. A place in San
Antonio made Jax for a few years. It was a SW USA beer.

On the other hand Fallstaff was a classic. And recently spotted Schlitz
at the liquor store.

The Jax brewery was devastated during Katrina. I don't know if they have or are going to rebuild the insides. It was right in the middle of the storm drainage and flooding....Was there....Pruner...We all believe you don't like Beer?????

Wiley Post Park! On the east side of Robinson was one of those WPA children pools along with a rock "clubhouse" with a cement floor. Free to "swim" all day and they had other activities. They had a record player. Countless times during the day people would lift the tonearm when they were barefoot and get the snot shocked out of them.
West of Robinson was a regulation pool. It cost to get in but it had depth. When I was in the third grade my brother and I would walk to the park from 26th and Lee. Never had any problem. Would repeat it through grade six.

Through my working days I was on third shift the majority of the time. Used to go to Vegas a lot as well. I say I went into my Vegas mode one too many times. Try to get into bed by 2:00am but seldom asleep until around 4:00.:hairyguy:

Both you guys stay up too late...Ya'll were probably the ones that sold the toilet paper to T-P the houses in your younger days. One time in highschool one of the girls house was t.p.ed and the guy thought he was in LOV with her so he took Sak Rete and put out a heart and I Love YOu and then turned on the water hose....You can still see some of it...

I was the one who brought up Alvin Crow on the music thread. This question is more suited to this one. Did you go to school with Dennis "Buck" Buchanan? He went on to play center for O.U. Started for the '74 and '75 National Championship Teams.

We've discussed old South Side Performers on this thread.....But, where (I'm Old) were the Battle of the Bands held on the southside....????I really don't know.....

Anyone remember the big slide that used to sit on the east side of the street, accross from Skate-O-Rama? It was in the early 70's when I went there and you slid down it on burlap sacks.. I think it was right next to where the Pizza Hut is.

I know he had some sort of Television show...but, wasn't there a teeney-bopper place then....remember, I was making 1.05 per hour working 60 hours a week...While you guys were dancing the night away, I was mopping the floors of your local TG&Y Stores so it would look good so you guys could come and Steal.....No, I meant purchase your records.....

Hey, I started with them with your salary that you quoted was big money. I was with TG&Y when you were in Gradeschool....My ambition was to climg the Corporate ladder with them so I just worked or stayed at the store....Whatever...You're probably right about the in store theft though...

A few memories in no particular order. Taylor pool(lived there). Skate a rama, the big slide, cruising 59th st, racing my car south from 89th & may because it was secluded, anti busing rally at the big field on 74th & penn,kips big boy, a & w, fox & horn, mchenrys,dodsons cafeteria, buchanans grocery,park terrace theatre, tg & y etc, unlocked doors and good times!


Thanks for reminding me. I was racking my brain trying to remember the name of that movie theater on Western. The Park Terrace....I used to love going to the TG&Y on 74th and Penn. Used to ride shopping carts down those ramps they had to the different levels in the store....

Last business there "Harley Davidson World". During the mid-'70's was a beer bar, "The Long Branch"

I think the old armory across from Penn 44 bowling alley and also one of the buildings at the fairgrounds held more than one battle of the bands.

On a side note, I heard that Jimmy Driscoll passed away yesterday. He was the drummer for Jim Edger and the Roadrunners.

Don't know about Battle of the Bands but there were dances held at the armory often. Think they were called "soc-hops" then. Had to be careful at that place. Grant turf.

1/2 block East of Agnew on the North side of Exchange. (Otasco on the corner, Oles Hogue Saddlery, Little Joes Boot shop and maybe another store then the Coney Island.
(kind of sketchy on those exact locations. Seems like either Hogues or Little Joes was on the 2nd floor)

I remember going there to eat with my Grandfather...Many years ago...It seemed to me it was just a diner type eating place...Not a joint just very simple.....I would imagine he had quite a business with the Armour and Wilson packing plants running full speed. I remember when the plant blew up...I was outside of the school talking to some kids when a huge explosion happened.....

I worked down there from 1974 to 1977. They had a lunch counter & stools but also half a dozen tables or so. Mickeys wife Frances was what made the Coney Island IMO. She had a great personality!
