What is Paeo? Do you mean Paseo?
SoonerGirl26 03-19-2009, 12:48 PM There was also a slot-car track at 25th and walker. Anyone remember the dances at the Lions Club, IOOF Hall, National Guard Armory???????
I danced at the Lion's Center on S. Robinson when I was in the 6th grade (1962). My mom would take me and my "neighborhood boyfriend" in her station wagon and drop us off....his mom would pick us up later in her station wagon. I remember slow dancing to "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" and "What's Your Name".....boy, those were the days! Love those Doo Wop songs!!

Did the Stroll many a night (Wednesdays and then Fridays) at the Old Lion's Center....Never polished a pair of shoes that often in my life when getting ready to go.....
papaOU 03-19-2009, 05:08 PM What is Paeo? Do you mean Paseo? I told you I graduated from both!!!!
papaOU 03-19-2009, 05:14 PM When I first started going to the Lions Club you would take your own records and they played on a hi-fi. Later they got a juke box and we picked the music and it played for free. Slow dancing is best remembered at the IOOF hall. It was upstairs and had wooden floors. Day or night the place was dark. Boys on one side of the room and girls on the other.

There, there Prunepicker. Calm down now. Everything will be alright.
Rickster 03-19-2009, 07:18 PM Years ago, my brother and his band would play at the rec. center just south of Jefferson (I think). I was their one and only roadie and would occasionally sit in with them. Now that was fun.

Rickster 03-19-2009, 07:54 PM Danny Kay did an event last year for the place I work at. 71 years old.

I'd bet that Soonergirl26 did.
I never danced. It was something that didn't appeal to me. Now, I don't
have to worry about it. I'm in the band! Prunette never goes to my gigs!

Prunepicker is going to meet Prunepicker in the parking lot of Coit's on the

They had a big blow up on the Okc Memories (http://www.okctalk.com/nostalgia-memories/112-oklahoma-city-memories.html#post209672) thread. It got REAL ugly.
It'll be great Generals64 and Generals78 and then Prunepicker and
Prunepicker.
It's worth getting sick on hotdogs to see that fiasco!

I don't think I remember the Summer Fun Kit.
Hey was anyone listening to KOMA on a particular Friday (or could have been a Saturday) night in 1969 when they played Suspicion by Elvis and the version by Terry Stafford? They played them both one after the other for about an hour and had a poll as to who's version was the best. I believe Stafford won that one. His version was better than Elvis' in my opinion. I'm surprised I remember that.
Rickster 03-20-2009, 08:18 PM BTW papaOU. Glad to see you on the board. We need more Redskin blood here.
Prunepicker 03-20-2009, 08:31 PM Danny Williams retired away from KOMA... Think about it... I am racking my

Okay, that makes sense, since, Danny Williams was such a big star on WKY.
I never knew he went to KOMA! Those stations were great!
I had a transistor radio I'd hide under my pillow!
Yeah! Find out about that Super Summer Fun Kit!
Prunepicker 03-20-2009, 08:34 PM I remember listening to the computerized fight of Marciano and Ali on the
radio. I don't know which station it was on. I didn't hold any allegiance to
either WKY or KOMA. At any rate, it was exciting. Marciano won by a knock
out. A few years later my dad and I watched it in a motel room in Claremore!

Dale Wehba was the general manager at Jack Clark Crysler Plymouth when I was there as a teenager sweeping floors. Havent heard that name in ages, wonder if he is still around.

From what I know he's got a private DJ gig. One of those things where you
hire a DJ to play dance music. He had a club for a while.

Yo', papaou, Dennis (we pronounced it Denny's) was great! However,
Daddy Pruner couldn't stand their glazed donuts. One morning brother and I
came to the office and Daddy Pruner was sticking the donuts to the wall.
Daddy Pruner said, and I repeat, "they don't cook the donuts! They're raw!"
At any rate, Tarzan and Fretwell's was a Saturday morning staple. Do you
remember those commercials (I can't stand commercials) where some nut
case salesman was standing there while the cars passed by him? I'll never
forget, "here's a 60 Plymouth Plaza with automatic and air, only $299!."
GAG!
But Tarzan ruled! Remember those natives getting torn apart on those
long poles? Cool!
Prunepicker 03-21-2009, 09:50 PM Now, that was a doughnut...Not Krispy Kreme but Dennis Donuts... Ate too

I'll vouch for that, and will be glad to prove it if everybody will show up at
COIT'S on MARCH 28th at 25th and SOUTH Western at 1:30!
However, I won't be there until around 2:30! Make sure that Gen64 and
Soonergirl are there. Use duct tape or whatever is necessary to keep'em
there!

It seemed as if the guy was standing in a vacant lot or field. How about Tarzan's "yell" and all the animals come running; elephants, lions, every thing.
Remember in the old comedy movies or cartoons when someone would call for help and your hear a distant voice yell "help is on the way" and they showed Tarzan's animal stampede, motorcycle cops and paddy wagons coming out of a garage, fire trucks turning the corner, all kinds of stuff. I still lmao when I see or think about them.
Rickster 03-22-2009, 07:33 PM How about the old black and white horror flicks. Dracula, Werewolf, Frankenstein and how about Nasferatu. Man, they use to scare the hell out of me. They use to always come on late at night and we would turn out all the lights to watch them.

Gen64 & Soonergirl26 - we have a problem...
Definition of Doo Wop---
Doo-wop music is often comprised of four-chord progressions. The lyrics tend to be repetitive, simple, dialectical, and awkwardly-phrased. Some are even grammatically incorrect. Nevertheless, many transcend these limitations to convincingly express such complex feelings as disillusionment, desire, and love.
I think Doo Wop is some of the most romantic music....probably more than you wanted to hear from me!!
~~
SoonerGirl26 03-22-2009, 08:45 PM I'd bet that Soonergirl26 did.

Yes, I used to dance on "The Scene". They invited different schools each week. And yes, Ronnie Kay's wife, Deanna (I think that was her name), was there giving the boys instructions that they could NOT hold the girls close to them when slow dancing. She demonstrated on my boyfriend on NOT WHAT TO DO....he loved it, she was very well endowed!
