Ever since I saw the "soup Nazi" on Seinfeld I've wished we could have a place that just specializes in great soups here in OKC. I know that in other areas of the country such restaurants do exist. Am I missing something - are there some restaurants that have a variety of soups and that is their speciality?

I think Souper Salad is best known for their variety on the Salad Bar -- they only offer 2-3 soups and one of them is Chili

Panera Bread has 4-6 soup options every day

Gourmet Deli on N. Western has a large variety of soups listed on their board each day (Hungarian Mushroom is my fav!)

Lots of places have a "Soup du Jour" that you can bet is always delish!
but probably only 1 or 2 choices

I know you are wanting restaurants that serve several different soups, but here is my take on a few restaurants that make 1 or 2 soups exceptionally well.

Paseo Grill - best cream of mushroom soup I have ever had. I normally hate any recipe that uses cream of mushroom.

Cafe 501 - I used to think Nonna's had the best tomato basil until I tried theirs.

Mahogany - Lobster and crab bisque. Hands down the best soup I have ever had. Boulevard also makes a great lobster bisque.

Try N&D Foods on Britton. They usaully have 10 or so you can buy and take home. I tried the crab and corn bisque and it was really good.

N&D Foods - where is that located?

Ditto Paseo's Cream of Mushroom. Yummy, yummy, yum.

I have to say that TGI Friday's has the best potato soup. I've had Charleston's as well, and it is wonderful. Although, my opinion is that TGI Friday's is still the best! Try it.

Locally-owned Plaid Cafe in Norman has some very good soups.

Steve, let us know if you go and try it. It sounds good. They don't seem to have a website.

The mushroom soup at Paseo is great. Also, Jason's has probably 6 or 7different soups and at least 3 that are vegetarian which is important to me.

CCOKC try N D Foods. They have 15 different kinds of soup and their cookies are really good too! They have more than just soup. You will have to check it out.

The cream of crimini mushroom soup at Rococo is very good. The South Philly Antipasti platter, & the caesar salad is also very good there.

My wife & I have enjoyed the following light meal at Rococo on several evenings with live jazz music & a fire in their fireplace...

NO WAY could we support a soup shop...the math doesn't come close to working.

Saturn Grill. Doesn't matter what the soups of the day are, they are always good.

Some folks will surely think I'm crazy, but preservatives (which I'm certain exist in large quantities) not withstanding, the chicken noodle at your typical Golden Corral is not an unwelcome choice. Not as good as My C's, ut not bad, not bad at all

Tulios in east Norman has the best Chicken Tortilla soup I've found. And I've tried all of them.

The Himalayas (Indian Food) Buffet always three or four soups. The Muligatanny and their mushroom soup with saffron are special.

We went today for lunch. It was great.

Awesome sandwiches, stacked full of meat. Fresh, tasty bread, fresh veggies.

My husband, who can usually pound down a full deli sandwich, had to resort to taking 1/2 of his home.

I had a 1/2 veggie sandwich and their butternut squash soup. Sandwich was fab, the soup - DIVINE.

We stayed away from the pastries, too, although their coconut cake looked awfully tempting.

My ONLY concern is their use of styrofoam with just about everything, except for the paper plates. While I certainly can't claim to be perfect, or even near-perfect when it comes to my own environmental conservation efforts, I certainly try like heck, and do let that factor into which stores I patronize. (HINT: PLASTIC clamshells are recyclable in OKC).

I really wish more places in OKC would get on this particular bandwagon and start serving their products with the environment in mind. I'm certainly aware there is a cost factor here in that most recycled or recyclable products are more expensive than the standard styrofoam.

For a soup shop to work, the square footage must be incredibly small and really rely on walk-up traffic. Almost like a counter with 8 stools...thats it. Then you would have to sell 300 cups a day @ $3.00 to generate $6-&7k per week (if open 7 days a week). Not much left over at those numbers. I don't see 300 cups of soup being sold per day, especially from June - September.

La Baguette has good French Onion soup.

Pioneer Pie's has good vegetable beef.

If these have already been mentioned, I apologize.

Prairie Thunder has a couple of great soups. I think their daily soup is Chicken Tortilla and then they have a soup of the day. Also, Bison Wiches in Norman has a handful of soups which they serve in bread bowls and they're always fantastic.

tried nd foods today...

wow. ordered half a sandwich and a bowl of potato soup. both were excellent. the sandwiches are huge. i ordered a half for about $4.85 and it easily had a pound of meat on it... they use boar's head meat, so we're talking both quality and quantity here... you get quite a bit for your money.

not sure what i paid for the soup... i could have easily gotten away with a cup as the bowl portion was quite generous. the potato soup was quite creamy and delicious... very fresh tasting. as stated, they had a good ten soups on the menu.

in addition they have all kinds of cookies, pies, cakes and pastries... all looked good and the portions quite generous for the price.

i was very pleased with nd foods and highly recommend it! -M

I'm excited to try them at the new location.
I felt they were pretty pricey, yet high quality before.
I have a hard time spending $10 plus for lunch very often!

due to the minimal seating, should I plan to definitely get carry-out only?
I don't have a very long drive to and from work, but would rather eat OUT if I'm getting out.

I'm being indecisive!
