maybe that some people are allergic to fish and they where using the same grease by accident and there was a lawsuit due to allergic reations? mistakes happen and maybe it happened a little to often with these two names in the same kitchen

Did the same to the one on N. May by Best Buy near 63rd as well as a few others I've seen lately. Not sure why they are going back to single concept stores. Personally, I preferred the variety when I eat at fast food joints.

I noticed that KFC also separated itself from the A&W on Broadway and 33rd. I'm thinking perhaps they've discovered the combo restaurant scheme doesn't work? But they're doing some remodeling at the stand-alone KFC on 2nd. Maybe they decide to revamp all over.

I doubt it's because it "doesn't work", if anything it's probably to seperate the companies if parent company Pepsi wants to sell off one of the brands, or some other reason. Doesn't make logical sense that it wouldn't work that way. I could be wrong but am skeptical that is the reasoning.

That was just a thought. But your comment about Pepsi got my attention. I looked it up. Unless Pepsi owns Yum! (as a holding company, which I haven't been able to determine yet), Pepsi does not own KFC.

Edit: Did some more digging. Pepsi used to own KFC and the others until 1997 when Yum! came into being.

I am guessing that they sold about ten times as much chicken as they did fish and chips and they felt they were wasting space on the LJS menu.

You'll notice that during this realignment no location (at least anywhere near where I live) went entirely to Long John Silver's rather than KFC. The nearest LJS is almost ten miles from my house now.

One complaint I always had is that at A&W/Long Johns the A&W Fries Always tasted like fish. This may have been the problem at some of the KFC's.

The store on 2nd is probably getting the new paint scheme and graphics the others have recieved over the last few weeks.

Yum Brands is a spinoff company of PepsiCo. Did a little research as well, it really isn't clear the current relationship of Yum and PepsiCo.

That's a pretty good assumption - Also, I think a couple months ago, KFC went to using non-trans fat oil for their fryers....maybe A&W, & LJS didn't want to make the switch?????

According to RefUSA, there is no current relationship between Yum! and Pepsi. Other than KFC and Pizza Hut, et. al. continue to buy Pepsi products. I think they spun off and are now completely independent.

A good reason to eat at KFC and stay away from LJS. Which won't be a change for me. I never did like how greasy their stuff always is. I love fish and chips, but not from there.

I think it's a good thing there isn't a LJS for 10 miles or more. That place is a frickin grease factory! I loved LJS in the 80's but I was young then. Now I just get disgusted by that place. So fattening. And feel sorry for the people that eat there on a regular basis. KFC isn't much better either.

I ate at LJS a few weeks ago and was impressed. They have new grilled options and, more importantly for me since I am a vegetarian, rice and mixed vegetables that are quite good.

LJS is so greasy, I stopped eating there several years ago. Now I don't eat at KFC anymore either. They recently changed their chicken strips and I don't care for the new recipe. Popeye's is much better. Plus, KFC uses Tyson chicken which I refuse to support because of their unethical, irresponsible practices in the Illinois River watershed.

I'm bummed that LJS is gone; we need more variety of fast food besides burgers and tacos. I used to go to the one on May and 63rd all the time; it was much better than the KFC that sits there now. Besides, there's a Popeye's less than a mile south of it anyway. I definitely agree that Popeye's tastes better, but I've always had TERRIBLE service there. The one in Moore is a joke; needs new management.

Maybe Yum! just wants to separate the KFC brand from the others? seeing as apparently all of the KFC + (insert other brand here) locations have become KFC only, but one of their locations here in Stillwater with 2 brands (Long John Silvers + A&W) has stayed the same.

A much superior replacement to the LJS on that site before...

Personally, I'm glad to say I haven't eaten at a LJS in over 5 years and I've eaten at KFC more than 3-4 times in that same period. There just isn't any redeeming value to these places. A couple of years ago we threw out fast food as anything more than a "treat" or necessity no more than once a week. Now if I can just kick the diet sodas.
