Red Prime is my favorite. Mickey Mantle's and Mahogany are very good as well.

In my opinion, Jamil's has one of the best steaks in town, especially if you consider the price.

I agree. It's hard to go wrong with Jamil's.

Never had a bad meal there, and have been in and out several times over the last few decades. It isn't flashy, but then, neither am I. Makes a nice fit all in all.

Its my observation that some people are getting off from the original posters intent. He wanted to know the best steakhouse, not a "not bad", or better than average steakhouse, but the Best. Of course it is all a matter of opinion so..........

I think it just depends on what kind of atmosphere you are looking for. Steak is steak really. The only thing that can make it taste better is the grade and the chef. Red Prime is the best expensive place for a steak. I choose it over Mickey Mantle's, Jamil's, Boulevard, or any other expensive steak restaurant. As for the average priced steak - Saltgrass. I'll drive all the way to Norman for that one.

kmf, care to elaborate on Saltgrass, I know it's a chain (texas based I think), but I haven't patronized it yet since I usually stay away from the chains when I can. how does it compare to red prime and other places?

As far as the chain part of the restaurant goes, it's pretty much a typical decor steak house. Not much different from Roadhouse or Logans. About the same pricing and set up. BUT - their meat is cut fresh daily, they don't just stick it out in a glass container and pretend like it is. It's also a high meat grade, good marbleization (sp?) Their seasoning is the kicker though. Wonderful. I even brought some home to put on my steaks, salads, potatoes, etc. You know it says a lot that I like it since I really despise chain restaurants.

Saltgrass is owned by the Laundry's/Joe's Crab Shack Group out of Houston. They do a good job...great volume with a medium price point.

I haven't been to Saltgrass, but for a good inexpensive steak, I love Texas Roadhouse. And their rolls! Mmmm

Here in Dallas, they do a phenomental business. Their food is high quality their dressings are homemade and their honey wheat bread is quite tasty. IMHO it is far better than Texas Road House.

Having been to every place mentioned in this thread at least once, most of them far more than that, I am shocked at the lack of love for Mickey Mantle's. I would put them and Red Prime in a dead heat at best in OKC. The Ranch is definitely in the mix also, but I prefer the other two.

I think Mickey Mantle's might get overlooked because it is so out-of-town business heavy. But believe me, the businessmen I have visited with while in there rank it favorably with any steakhouse they have visited anywhere in the U.S. Locals must hit it more for the happy hours and the bar. That is the only conclusion I can come to, considering the response in here. In reply to the original post I would recommend Mickey's primarily for the "conservative couple in their 50's" part. I'm not calling MM's conservative, but it does have a quality, old-school vibe despite only being around a decade old.

Also having been to all of the steakhouses mentioned on this thread (I'm a 6' 235lb. carnivore...what can I say), I can say without a doubt that hands down Red Prime is the best steakhouse in OKC (and in my opinion) one of the best in the nation. I have traveled extensively and have never had a better meal than at red prime (i've had steaks at Mortons, Ruth Chris, Al Biernet, Plaza III in KC, SW Steakhouse in Vegas, Dickie Brennen, and others that are recognized as top steakhouses). You absolutely have to try the green chile macaroni. Also Red Prime has a prix five special going on right now. Your choice of salad, entree, side, and dessert for $35. The wine selection is pretty good as well. I personally am a filet guy, so I always get the seven ounce filet with cracked pepper crust and the homemade worcestershire sauce. Many have mentioned the Ranch. I agree it is pretty good. Tom and Jerry's also has a great steak (even though not commonly referred to as a steak house). For those of you who have eaten at the Ranch, but not Red Prime, you must try Red Prime, I think your view will change regarding the best steakhouse. BTW...we really, really need a good meat market in OKC. Also, has anyone on the board ever been to Charley's in Orlando?

I dont live in OKC anymore but, I used to get the prime rib at the Hungry Peddler. It was awsome. Don't know if it's still there though.
