warreng88 11-20-2008, 08:46 AM Good. This is a good place for a sports bar. Daquiri Zone was a failure from the beginning. A place with the name "Daquiri Zone" doesn't exactly spell sports bar.
kmf563 11-20-2008, 08:48 AM I like the name. Who's doing this?
Watson410 11-20-2008, 08:51 AM Thank you sports bar gods!!! OKC (Bricktown) needs a GOOD sports bar to go watch Thunder games... I hope this place is sucessful!
metro 11-20-2008, 09:31 AM Silly name, but better than "Daiquiri Zone"
bigjkt405 11-20-2008, 11:06 AM The "DZ" was ripped off from a place in Houston.....
betts 11-20-2008, 11:15 AM I heard Mark Clayton was behind this. Give us a real sports bar, Mark!
jbrown84 11-20-2008, 11:31 AM Interesting. There's a lot of new stuff on the way for BT.
metro 11-20-2008, 12:15 PM Interesting. There's a lot of new stuff on the way for BT.
True, but the canal remains virtually untouched for a decade......
OKCMallen 11-20-2008, 12:30 PM Brix...I like it!
lasomeday 11-20-2008, 01:00 PM I think the vacancy rates show where the building owners are asking too much and which ones are actually priced right.
jbrown84 11-20-2008, 03:01 PM I agree.
mecarr 11-20-2008, 10:08 PM Here's their website

metro 11-21-2008, 09:53 AM I think the vacancy rates show where the building owners are asking too much and which ones are actually priced right.
Not necessarily, look how many businesses have turned in some of the areas you say are "priced right". There is less foot traffic and visual exposure on the prime canal front land that still remains vacant, but areas by Abuelos and Lower Bricktown get lots of foot traffic from events at Ford Center and Cox Center. As they say, location, location, location. These easy to view businesses are naturally going to get more patrons by naturally increased foot traffic from events and conventions.

BRiX (http://www.brixokc.com)
Interesting bit from their website, doesn't say anything about wanting to be a good sports bar.
OUR GOALS
To provide the best customer service possible.
To serve quality food and beverages.
To have a whole lot of fun...
OKCMallen 11-21-2008, 12:29 PM That place has a LOT of potential. The setup in there is pretty great; DZ was just terribly run. Hope they open up the menu a bit...I don't think "steak" when I go tot he sports bar.
metro 11-21-2008, 12:38 PM Thanks what I was thinking OKCMallen, I'm not a bar or sportsbar guy, but steak and tilapia don't sound very "sports bar" even to me. I was thinking nachos, chicken wings, potato skins, burgers, sandwiches, etc.
sroberts24 11-21-2008, 03:07 PM i really would like to see the upper level windows opened up and repaired and the brick returned to the natural red, that would make this so much nicer and i promise it would bring more business just because of curb apeal... its simple PR
Urbanized 11-22-2008, 12:44 PM I heard Mark Clayton was behind this. Give us a real sports bar, Mark!
Mark Clayton is not involved with this project.
onthestrip 11-22-2008, 03:01 PM All I can suggest is that if you call yourself a sportsbar, remember the flat screen TVs, and plenty of them. Tube TVs take up too much space and cant be seen by as many people. So remember, flat screens TVs.
metro 11-22-2008, 03:11 PM onthestrip, peek in the windows. DZ had flat PANEL tv's all over the place and they still failed (heck they had 13" ones at several of the booths and tables in addition to the big ones on the walls), it takes more than FLAT PANEL tv's to make a successful sports bar. Flat SCREEN tv's can still be tube tv's, just the screen is flat.
onthestrip 11-23-2008, 11:55 AM Thanks for the correction again metro, flat panel TV's is what makes a sportsbar, and the food has to be decent too. I never went to DZ, the name of it along with never hearing anything good about it kept me away. Now that there is a new place going in and the fact that there is not a great place to watch sports in Bricktown IMO, I will give some suggestions for a good sportsbar, because everyone seems to get it wrong.
*Flat Panel TVs, dont even consider buying any tube tvs
*Mostly High Definition TVs too
*Location of TVs, dont put them too high up. Ever try to watch a game at Fox n Hound, those TVs are too high to comfortably watch.
*Sound, for the big games that the majority of customers are there to see, play the sound for it
*Have NFL Sunday Ticket and other TV sports packages
*Have an employee with a high sport intelligence that will stay on top of the tv programming and will display the best games on the right TVs. Too many times I have been somewhere only having to tell them what channel the big game is on.
These are the sportsbar commandments, now good luck Brix
metro 11-24-2008, 08:28 AM and GOOD MAN FOOD, I don't think the steak and tilapia menu will last long, either that or the place won't.
Easy180 12-16-2008, 09:54 PM Was hoping this place would be open in time for the nat'l championship...Website says late Jan however
john60 12-17-2008, 12:56 AM They REALLY need to make sure they are open for the Big XII Basketball Tournaments in March...missing out on that would be really, really bad.
OKCMallen 12-17-2008, 09:17 AM If it's late Jan, they'll be open for the Super Bowl...
badfish77 12-23-2008, 04:34 PM They have criags list ad looking for help, says they look to open Feb. 1st.
metro 12-29-2008, 09:01 AM Their menu still strikes me as odd for a "sports bar", where are the nacho's, potato skins, burgers, chicken wings, etc.
OKCMallen 01-19-2009, 11:01 AM Any word on this? Drove by on Friday and it didn't appear to be all that close to opening...
Edmond Earl 01-24-2009, 07:52 AM They are shooting for a Feb 1 opening.
native 01-27-2009, 04:21 PM Their menu reminds me of Champps Americana. I've spent the last 5 years in Chicago and frequented this restaurant chain to watch UFC. They market themselves as a sports bar with more upscale food than regular bar food. I've been in OKC 6 months and still haven't been able to find a real good sports bar.
OKCMallen 01-28-2009, 02:59 PM They are shooting for a Feb 1 opening.
I'll go on Sunday to check it out if it's ready. Super Bowl!?
Stan Silliman 01-29-2009, 10:18 AM Is Mark Clayton involved? Interesting because the old Daiquri Zone was operated by two former OU football players, Terence Brown and Cedric Jones.
The service was up and down but it was one of the more comfortable places to watch sports in the city. Especially the row of recliners in the upper deck in front of the bank of TV screens.
I watched a lot of games there and one day I was in the center recliner watching March Madness when almost the entire Houston Rockets team came in and took over the other recliners. Yao Ming wasn't there (I don't think the recliners would have fit him) but I was seated between Shane Battier and Chuck Hayes. I didn't realize how much the pros followed college basketball but Battier seemed to know all the players and facts like where they went to highschool, etc and was into it pretty good. I even got a column out of it.
I hope Brix kept that furniture.
Mr. T in OKC 02-02-2009, 03:03 PM Does anyone know the status? I drove by today, and they certainly did not appear to be open or anywhere close to open.
Edmond Earl 02-02-2009, 08:06 PM Things are moving slower than expected. The new goal is to be open by Valentines.
OKCMallen 02-03-2009, 10:30 AM Need to be open by the Big XII tournament for sure...or that's a big missed opportunity.
mecarr 02-03-2009, 11:50 AM yea it would suck to miss the football and basketball season...
OKCMallen 02-03-2009, 01:40 PM No joke. We're not a huge baseball town, so opening up AFTER the close of college basketball would hurt. You'd only have the NBA to draw people out...which can do a good job, but something tells me that the people that go to Bricktown on a Thunder game night are going to the Ford Center, not to Brix.
That being said, if the Thudner were playing on a Friday night, I could see myself going to Brix to begin the night out...
sethsrott 02-03-2009, 02:26 PM I hope that this is not an omen of the management of Brix later on in the future after they have opened!
kevinpate 02-03-2009, 07:39 PM Is the palce actually billing itself as a sports bar? the site struck me as we're a tad toney, but we will still have sports on tv
mecarr 02-09-2009, 10:01 AM The new open date is in about 2 weeks (no exact date yet.)
OKCMallen 02-09-2009, 12:29 PM Hmmm...doesn't sound good.
Stinger 02-09-2009, 01:46 PM Locally owned restaurants/new concepts rarely open on time. I wouldn't read too much into it.
betts 02-09-2009, 08:42 PM I would hope they get it open before the Big 12 Tournament, as that's a week a new business wouldn't want to miss, I would think.

Hardly any developments/construction projects ever reach their original deadline.
OKCMallen 02-10-2009, 06:50 AM I would hope they get it open before the Big 12 Tournament, as that's a week a new business wouldn't want to miss, I would think.
Biggest sports draw to Bricktown over a period of time, I would think, until college football starts back up...
donbroncho 02-10-2009, 05:41 PM Hardly any developments/construction projects ever reach their original deadline.
Its like Steve has said in the past(i think. if not than he can correct me). Bricktown/Downtown projects rarely meet their original deadlines. Postponed deadlines come with the territory so to speak...
Edmond Earl 02-11-2009, 08:17 PM Ok, they will for sure be open by March 1st. These guys are sparing no expense on the video equipment and Tvs. They aren't keeping any of the furniture or equipment from the previous business. They hope this will be the premier location in Okc to watch sports.

I'm hoping so too. I'm not too fond of any of the other options. Since the Ford Center will be under repair on draft day, it might be a good place to watch the NBA draft too.

I think it will be. Hell there isn't ANY right now. BWW on NWExpressway? Too small. I look forward to it. :congrats::congrats:
Watson410 02-19-2009, 09:50 PM I was driving by Bricktown on I-40 yesterday and got a quick glance of the top two floors (That had recently be painted, it appeared). Has anyone been by there recently to see how the new paint job looks up close? It looked good from I-40!! A whole lot better than the gray paint the building use to be covered in....
dalelakin 02-20-2009, 07:01 AM I think it will be. Hell there isn't ANY right now. BWW on NWExpressway? Too small. I look forward to it. :congrats::congrats:
BWW on Rockwell and 3rd ST blows that location away.
OKCMallen 02-20-2009, 07:05 AM Rockwell? That's barely in OKC!
Watson410 03-02-2009, 08:24 AM Does anyone know if Brix is for sure opening today??? Or are they pushing the date back AGAIN!
metro 03-02-2009, 09:47 AM I seriously doubt they are opening today. I drove by on Friday and they still had lots to do. I'll try and post a pic or two today.
metro 03-02-2009, 10:06 AM Here's my drive by on Friday 2/29/09. Brix is the one with the bright red paint.

OKCMallen 03-02-2009, 03:23 PM just drove by and i would be shocked if they were open for the tournament next week
That's a huge missed opportunity, IMO. There are about zero major sports events until college football. (It seems to me that people just don't roll out to the bar for baseball games.)
It seems to me that people just don't roll out to the bar for baseball games.
Outside of the two OU/OSU baseball games and the Big XII baseball tourney, that is true...
