View Full Version : Henry Hudsons
Chitty 05-20-2014, 07:32 PM Hey, that's me lol.
Yeah I think we all get defensive when it comes to Slims. I have talked to a few of the regulars that are there on Friday or Saturday night and the crowd is so different from the early morning Saturday and Sunday crowd we just want to push all the "interlopers" out, lol.
I know it's not "my" pub.... but it is my pub ya know?
lol Matt is it you indeed, thanks for coming out on saturday bud.
And yeah I know off-topic... I might be able to make it down there tomorrow, will get pics if I do.
boitoirich 05-20-2014, 08:24 PM I am sitting in Henry Hudsons Public House (the soon to be official name). It is a nicer layout than typical HHs. They are definitely going after Deep Deuce residents and casual Thunder fans.
They plan to offer standard HH fare and also regularly introduce new pub-style offerings unique to the more upscale, urban location.
Don't expect the smoky, seedy atmosphere typical of HHs. Heny Hudson's Public House is what you would expect of a sports bar within a stone's throw of DD and Midtown.
I recommend trying it now before it gains popularity and begins to get too busy.

boitoirich 05-20-2014, 10:05 PM Sorry I left in a rush to make an appointment. Hopefully someone can go and grab some pictures.
One thing I didn't mention is that there are televisions everywhere, with rven more to come. It's nearly impossible to sit at a bad angle to the game.
Libbymin 05-20-2014, 10:13 PM I believe they're open now but tomorrow is their official Grand Opening. They did a lot of work inside.

Memorial Day weekend is as good a first weekend as any to open for business! It's okay. I'll get down there eventually.
Plutonic Panda 05-21-2014, 05:24 PM Guys, we're getting WAY off-topic here. Please confine your comments to Henry Hudson's. Thanks.I would've used the word restrain instead, but whatevs ;)
I went least night to watch the Thunder game. It was nicer than I expected. Wish there were more pool tables though.

Hey can you confirm its non smoking?
Libbymin 05-22-2014, 09:41 PM Hey can you confirm its non smoking?
It's definitely non smoking.

My wife and I were there for the first half of the game as well. The place is nice and they did a great job on the remodeling. There were some technical issues with the tv's and sound at first, but it was their first time open during a thunder game so I'll give them a pass.
Food was all very tasty and the service was good. And definitely non smoking, or we wouldn't have been there. Lol
Already appears to be a great addition to Bricktown.
John Knight 05-23-2014, 10:36 AM I will try and make it by this weekend and snap some pics. Can't wait to see it!

Urbanized 05-23-2014, 01:59 PM Had lunch there today. Very nicely done inside, especially vs. the bulk of the HH brand. Food and service were good. It's a fine concept, a known brand name from a company with deep pockets and lots of experience in the market in a great location. I predict it will break the curse of that space, which has mostly been littered with well-intentioned operators who didn't have most of the things listed above.
It seems Skinny Slim's has shown the way for more of these homey, casual but well-executed types of pubs.
It's something OKC has been lacking in a big way. There seems to be room for more as well.
shawnw 05-23-2014, 03:18 PM I like the idea of known brands stepping it up with higher quality (than their usual) establishments downtown becoming a thing. Johnnies, Hudsons, who's next?
^
The Interubran group did this with Packard's.
The Hideaway on AA seems to be a cut above their other locations.
Nic's burgers / Parkhouse.
Red Prime is the most up-scale offering from AGE.
Hal Smith spin-offs are putting in Broadway 10 and Sidecar.
You are absolutely right, this seems to be a trend and a good one!

Actually, I think that Hideaway's rebuilt Western Ave. location is better than their AA one, but it's also their "newest".
OKCisOK4me 05-26-2014, 12:09 AM I went with some friends tonight to watch the game. I enjoyed it and I will go again.

I loved Henry Hudson's in my 20's. Somehow drank 28 draft beers one night while still being coherent. Me thinks they mix in just a wee bit of water in their drafts lol
Moved a ton of posts to the Bricktown thread.

As far as the non bricktown locations, wouldn't take a date there unless you were dating a young 'un. It is a neighborhood bar setting that is slightly above dive status. If you are out with a buddy in the afternoon and wanted a beer in a place that you could relax....this would be a great stop. After work and as it gets later, the music and crowd gets louder. Don't know about the bricktown locale though. It appears to me to be kind of McNellies/Tapwerks type vibe but I am strictly guessing as I haven't been there yet but will be trying it out

It's a little late to get a detailed review... but it was a VERY different experience than a typical Hudsons. And honestly the type of place and atmosphere that is very new and special in OKC. I'll type up something detailed in the morning.

jerrywall 05-30-2014, 10:50 AM So, small sign. Was meeting several friends their, and I knew where I was going, I had a couple of "where the heck is this place" phone calls. No biggie, and I'm sure is a limitation of their location.
Very nice inside, and weird (and nice) to walk into a Hudsons with no smoke. The entrance was sort of different and interesting. Liked the giant bar and the big long tables.
I was surprised when a family came in, and then realized that this was 2/3rds restaurant 1/3rd bar. Only the area at the bar, and the corner to the side of the bar are 21+. Not a negative at all, and will be a positive to some.
At the front I kept wondering what the glassed in room was. I thought maybe it was a smoking area, but there were no ashtrays in there. Then, later in the evening I realized that the windows/wall along the street side of the room was a floating wall, that they opened to convert this "room" into a patio. Very nice!
As you can see, tons of TVS. Not a bad view in the place.
Prices are higher than a typical Hudsons but still low enough to be a good value in Bricktown. They're still implementing their "happy hour" specials to be in line with the offerings at the other locations as well, although they started doing their drink specials yesterday.
Pics below.

Thanks for posting my pic Libbyman ;-)
As far as family time goes, they allow under 21 in there until 10pm. After that, you gotta go, even if a Thunder game is in progress. As for the front room that converts into a covered patio, they're still trying to figure out an overall use for that. I mentioned rather large group events AND I was told that even if the room was open to the outside that it would still be non smoking.

Anonymous. 06-02-2014, 10:10 AM Checked this place out over the weekend.
First off:
Sign is a joke. It is neat looking and gives it a homey-feel. But marketing wise is terrible. This end of Sheridan is not very foot-traffic heavy relative to other parts of BT. They need neon either on the building or on the hanging sign. We could barely see it in daylight - and would not have gone there if we didn't already know it existed. In the latest renderings, it is not a lit sign, and there is no HENRY HUDSONS PUBLIC HOUSE on the building (yet).
Inside:
Layout is perfect for the space. The front area with the doors that open to outside patio is the same as Brix, and still cool. There is a small arcade area just before this patio with a few classic bar games and a single pool table. Could use additional pool table, looks as if two could fit in the location there is currently one, if they just turn them 180 degrees. I really liked the bar-like table tops in the center of the room that sort of divided the 21+ bar area from the seated bar area. They were very condusive for larger groups of 8-10 people. TVs were good and in practical locations, looks like they could use one more larger screen in the very center east wall, though. Blind spot of no TVs for people sitting in middle of room facing east.
Food:
Classic Hudsons, good burgers and sandwhiches for a cheaper pub. The fries were extremely oversalted.
Drinks:
It was not very busy when we were there, so quality could go down in those times. But bartenders were experienced and made drinks correctly and timely. Beer was very cold and fresh.
Staff:
Spoke to several people, most of the people working seemed to be from other Hudsons or various local bars, thus came across as experienced. Obviously very friendly and clean in appearance, for first weekish of business.
I specifically asked about business since they were open about a week, all staff said they were extremely slow and many indications of being new and sort of unknown so far. I asked about their advertising and expressed concerns for the sign, no one indicated that the sign was temporary. Wait staff made comments that they told the owner they need an "OPEN" sign and they received a very small OPEN sign in window that seemed laughable. I suggested more neon in windows to indicate an open business/bar (especially with lack of lighted/neon main sign). Staff mentioned that the only real advertising they are doing so far is Facebook/Twitter and Yelp. I suggested to get the location onto google maps and look into the 'What's up Downtown' email newsletter.
Overall it seems promising, but I hope management wants the place to become successful and expresses such to the owners so they receive the correct help.
One more thing, I asked about time/age restrictions. The person I spoke with said that there is no cutoff time for children/under 21. All ages to midnight on weekdays; and 2am on weekends.
Urbanized 06-02-2014, 10:33 AM I'm sure they will be installing the "Hudson's Public House" lettering on the facade soon. Perhaps it is still hung up in permitting or manufacture. Obviously it is their intent, based on the drawings.
OKCisOK4me 06-02-2014, 12:43 PM When I was there, I was told by the GM whom I know personally from another HH that anyone had to go at 10pm that wasn't 21.

There have been some delays with the sign permitting with the city and the Bricktown design committee. I could be mistaken, but my understanding is that they've been approved on the sign that's hanging so far, but the sign with bigger letters still has to go through an approval process as well.
New Henry Hudson's coming to the southeast corner of 192nd & Western. Looks like a new strip retail center will be part of the development as well:

Looks like Henry Hudson's signed a lease at the Flat Tire space on 318 E. Ayers in downtown Edmond.

flat tire burgers went out? only went there once but it seemed like a decent place with personality. -M
Don't think they closed.
There was a lease signed on that property for Henry Hudson's and I assume they'll be operating in that space in the near future.
Uptowner 04-11-2016, 08:48 PM The Henry hudsons owners are the main benefactors of the S&B chain. I don't know if that's even pertinent information. But it seems coincidental.
jerrywall 04-11-2016, 10:21 PM oooooh. Could never really get into Flat Tire. But the idea of an S&B there would be awesome. That location is prime. I always thought a Fuzzys Taco would go great there. A Hudsons would do well there but would hope they keep the outdoor seating.
jbkrems 04-11-2016, 11:42 PM I think that Flat Tire is part of the same company that owns/operates Henry Hudson's, S&B Burgers, and several other local chains. I believe its also the same company that does Pepperoni Grill and Poblano Grill, as well, among other concepts.
^
I thought that might be the case.
The new lease may just be a renewal for Flat Tire.
tsou89 04-12-2016, 09:39 AM I thought Flat Tire was owned by the same group that owns Lottinvilles?
jbkrems 04-12-2016, 09:43 AM Yes, Lottinvilles company owns Flat Tire, Henry Hudsons, S&B, Poblano Grill, and Pepperoni Grill. I think they also own all the Bricktown Brewery restaurants, as well, and possibly other concepts, too.
jerrywall 04-12-2016, 11:43 AM I believe they sold their interest in Bricktown Brewery to Enduring Brands LLC a while back. Unless enduring Brands is the group you're talking about... It's hard to keep track of these various ownership groups.

I believe that it is Emerging Brands, LLC which owns Henry Hudson's and Poblano. I think that a different ownership group (with some similar partners) own some, or all, of the other mentioned restaurants.
jerrywall 04-12-2016, 12:00 PM I was talking to someone the other day... it's getting harder to keep track of which companies are owned by the various ownership groups... of the top of my head you have Enduring Brands, Emerging Brands, Hal Smith, Good Egg, Western Concepts (that's a smaller one though so it's easier), McNellies group, and I'm sure more I can't think of.
Thomas Vu 04-12-2016, 12:02 PM I like flat tire, but similar to klemm's its way out of my way =(

Oh, and Deep Fork.
Had a late lunch at the Bricktown location today and it was the first time I had been in there.
I really liked they place. Nice, clean, cozy, tons of TV's, big beer selection...
And I had a fantastic Theta burger for a really reasonable price. I'll be back.
Urbanized 06-20-2016, 04:47 PM ^^^^^^^^
One of the nicer casual places in Bricktown; nice interior, great beer selection, good menu, and as you mention great for watching sports. It should be packed all of the time, but I think it's still so closely aligned with the Hudson's brand that people associate it with the old smoky watered-down-beer joint. Heck, even regular Hudson's locations are nicer than that now.
I stopped by the Bricktown location today around 5PM and I'm happy to say they were quite busy and there was a lot of energy.
This place is way underrated (at least the BT version).
