If so, nothing wrong with that. Local ownership, no smoking, and (at least some) billiards. Good fit for Bricktown.

Yes. That is what I have been told by those in the know.

I'll wait to get my hopes up until libbymin chimes in.

It is supposed to be a bit more upscale and for you soccer fans out there, I've heard they might show Man U and Arsenal games there too which would be fun. Not sure if comparisons to Urban Johnnie's would be accurate or not as I've never been there.

When visiting London last November, my wife and I stumbled upon a pub in the area called Bunch of Grapes. The rendering Pete posted yesterday seem to mimic this kind of place and I really like it. Look up a street view of Bunch of Grapes near Brompton Rd, London, UK and you can see what I am talking about.

Perfect! My two favorite sides: Arsenal and whoever is playing Man U. :)

This looks to be a really nice development. They should do very well at that location. Does anyone know what's upstairs? Are those developed and lived-in condo(s)? I was surprised to find out how many of those are in the Bricktown district. Owners keeping the top floors for themselves, or huge rents/big sales after developing them into loft-style apartments, etc. Does anyone know about this building?

Upstairs is the headquarters of Henry Hudsons and Bricktown Brewery...one and the same.

seriously, not every soccer fan is a bandwagonning follower of big money BPL teams

if they dedicated to showing all nationally televised MLS games, all USMNT and USWNT games, etc, then we'd have a bar truly dedicated to the soccer fans of OKC

The upper floors are already used as offices by the company that operates the Hudson's/Bricktown Brewery/S&B/etc. locations. They are nicely done.

They've run into some delays with the design committee on some of the details for their new sign but they should be fixing that soon.

How can they have a soft opening if their design is not approved and if the Brix signage is still up (presume it is from the weekend)?

A banner..?

shawnw
05-14-2014, 02:30 PM
I guess that's true, but what about the design? Are they going to soft open, then close for re-design, the re-open?

Urbanized
05-14-2014, 02:39 PM
I'm saying they can soft open with a banner over the Brix sign, then work out facade/sign design issues and do installation during a slow day/time in the near future. If the interior is ready to go they can be open for business. Not optimal, but possible.

shawnw
05-14-2014, 02:43 PM
OH.....

okay, I was thinking design included the interior, as in they didn't have permission to proceed with interior redesign... sorry for the confusion on my part.

Urbanized
05-14-2014, 02:48 PM
Yeah, interior renovations are not within the purview of BUDC. About the only time you will see an outside agency exert influence over interior design items in a renovation is when the owner is utilizing historic preservation tax credits, in which case the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) has say so. The Skirvin renovation was an example. The distressed historic tile in the lobby and the stenciled graphics near the elevator bank (among other things) were preserved because of this process. Otherwise, you can do pretty much anything you want with the interior of a building, as long as it meets building codes for electrical, fire, etc..

I think I'm confusing the design approval with the building permit process

We already do, it's called Skinny Slim's and it is the only bar truly dedicated to football fans. I don't know any other place that opens up at 6:45am so me and my bandwagoning friends can watch Arsenal (and fans of all sides including small money teams like Newcastle, Everton, and we've even got a West Ham fan that comes). If you call being a fan for half my life and having been to a match at the Emirates and never missing a match bandwagon that is...

Now if you've been there, you'll probably argue that it's "too small" and only has "three tv's", but that's fine more room for me and my friends to cheer on the teams we love.

On a lighter note, I'm sure this will be a fine establishment and a great place for all bandwagon fans to watch "soccer".

We probably are... we all get protective of this sport I think. I don't mean to throw around negativity, I just don't like the term bandwagon, because any fan of soccer on any level is progress. I don't care how much they watch it, we need more soccer fans, even if they are not very knowledgeable Man U fans. You gotta start somewhere and I didn't know a damn thing about professional soccer when I first started getting into Arsenal, 20 years later it's a huge part of my life. I just think we need to give everyone a break and let new fans experience it in their own way. Also, regarding Slim's, I get protective of it especially because they're like my second family and the metro needs to know it is a dedicated football bar if that's what you are looking for. So is Skinny Slim's Edmond as well.

My second team is Queens Park Rangers, as they were the first match I ever saw in England.

But of course, they aren't in the top flight although they could return if they beat Derby at Wembley this weekend.

I also like Bradford City because I've seen them play at home as well.

COYG! That's awesome Pete, so you've been to the Emirates, and/or Highbury? Wish I'd been to Highbury before the move. I went to the Emirates in Feb 2012, vs Blackburn we won 7-1 and Henry (on loan) scored the final goal. Extremely memorable and a top event in my life.

We had an awesome time last Saturday at Skinny's celebrating the FA Cup win, we hosted a cookout starting at 10am and the win was thrilling. There's about 10 of us that come for every match and an extended base of about 20-30 that come as much as they can. Welcome to join us any time.

Think we might be getting off topic here... sorry!

Chitty, I live in California which is why you've never seen me at Skinny's for the matches. I was there one Saturday morning last fall for a Man U match, and it was a great atmosphere.

I haven't been to the Emirates, only Highbury. I really want to get back and see the "new" place. I actually saw a Champions League match at Highbury in the late 90's.

I became a fan after reading Fever Pitch and things just grew from there.

Wow thats next on my list, a champions league match! Very cool, yeah I thought I'd seen on here that you are in California now. Met a guy from the LA Gooners back in december, he came out to Skinny's and watched with us, he said the LA atmosphere is great, although they meet at a Fox and Hound chain, but never for early matches because it'd be 4:45am.... that would be tough haha.

The Cock n' Bull in Santa Monica is the biggest football pub in the area, but there are several others. Tons of Brits in West LA.

And yes, many early mornings in there and many Guinness breakfasts. Cock n' Bull also serves the full English breakfast.

Pete,
Does that include black pudding? Just checking to see if they are authentic. Actually, not all "Full English Breakfasts" come with black pudding, it's an extra on a lot of them though. By the way, I was sitting in a pub in Cheddar enjoying my ploughman's lunch when all of a sudden the place was full and deafeningly loud. Turns out, a championship "football" match was coming on the tv. I wanted to explain to these blokes what real football was but was warned by my London friend that it probably wouldn't be the smartest thing I ever did, and it might be the last thing I ever did! Actually, I was kidding my friend, I knew better than to make a remark about their national pastime but I think she thought I really meant it.

Hey, that's me lol.

Yeah I think we all get defensive when it comes to Slims. I have talked to a few of the regulars that are there on Friday or Saturday night and the crowd is so different from the early morning Saturday and Sunday crowd we just want to push all the "interlopers" out, lol.

I know it's not "my" pub.... but it is my pub ya know?
