Keith,

Man I'm lost as to why the smilies are not working for you. I've tested it as you can see above.

Other members please reply to this post with a test smilie. I am curious if this is isolated to Keiths computers.

This is the test you requested. Still no smile will produce.

I have temporarily disabled the Yahoo module for further testing. It was not working correctly for me either. the smilie thing is really strange thought. I am interested to see if others have the same issue.

:Smiley124 :hammer: :Smiley078 hmmm...seems ok on my end. Keith, Mr. Anderson, I am wondering if you guys are having any other problems with Internet Explorer? or is it just the smileys, and thats it?

Keith

Not that I know of, however, with me, anything is possible. Rolleyes...

I'll try a test here....

Hmmm...it's not worknig for me either...I can't get the code to copy over from the smilie window to the message page here when I click on one of the smilies....

Patrick
01-03-2005, 09:23 PM
Let me try just cutting and pasting the code fromthe smilie pop-up page.

Patrick

Okay Todd.....when I enter the code it works!

The problem seems to be when you click on the smilie image in the smilie poup window. IT won't transfer the code over to the message page!

When you guys click on the link [More] that opens the smilie popup window are you guys trying to drag and drop the smilies into your post?

Keith
01-04-2005, 05:59 AM
I have never had to drag any smilies to my posts. All I've had to do is click on them and they automatically go to my post.

Todd

I've done a little research into the smilie issue. It seems that when you select a smilie from the popup window you cannot drag and drop a smilie into your post. According to the forum software maker Vbulletin you can only double click a smilie and it should be automatically inserted into your post. I tested this out and it worked for me on this board plus 3 other forums I am a member of. Please try double clicking and let me know the results

Keith

Ok, let's see...Nope. I double clicked and nothing happened.

Patrick,

When you say "It won't transfer" what do you mean? Are you trying to drag it into your post or double click it?

:Smiley124 :Smiley236 :spider:

If you double click it should work. I double clicked the smilies above. It is technically impossible for it to work on my two computers at home the 3 I use at work and not somehow be localized to the individual computers you are using. I've had my wife try at work no problems, I even had a friend in India try with no problem.

The smile portion of the site has not been tinkered with. It would be impossible for me to diognose a local issue. I would start by eliminating the most obvious possabilities such as.

What system software do you use. Has it been updated lately. XP and XP Pro can be set to be updated automatically. Maybe one of the updates is causing a problem.
Did you recently turn on a popup blocker in I.E. or any of the 1,000 other blockers. If you have blockers did you double check them ALL. Including the new I.E. version which has a blocker built in?
Did you update virus software. Several of them have blockers built in to.
Turn OFF ALL you virus programs, firewalls, and blockers. Then close ALL your browser windows. Open them backup and try again. Be sure to close all programs FIRST then CLOSE ALL windows and open up the site from a new window.

I will keep investigating but I am running out of suggestions. I cannot replicate the problem on any computer I have tried.

Todd,
It is strange that it has happened to a few of us all at the same time. I have not updated anything, nor have I installed any new pop up stopper. Is anyone else have problems with the font, size, and color also? When I double click on the smilies, it sort of resets my page and give me an "error on page" at the bottom left side of the page. Hmmm...could this be a delayed millineum bug? LOL

Keith

I am not having problems with fonts or colors, I just can't get the smilies to work. When I click on a smilie, my screen will jump...and that's it.

Patrick
01-04-2005, 01:02 PM
Hmmm....it's always worked until now. By the way, yeah Todd, when I mean transfer, I meant double click on the smilies. Let me try to drop some in in my next post.

Patrick
01-04-2005, 01:03 PM
Okay Todd...when I double click on one of the smilies, it just seems to reload the page and doesn't insert the code for the smilie. Strange! I can cut and paste the code though and it inserts okay.

Man, What did you guys do? LOL!! I can't figure this one out for the life of me. Its hard to believe that around 3 or 4 of you are having Smiley problems and nobody else. Well, Todd put up a couple of good suggestions. If those dont work at all, heres a couple of suggestions that you might be able to try.

1) Try rebooting your computer. Sometimes rebooting fixes some problems.
2) Trying running scandisk on your hard drive or CHKDSK. Maybe their are errors on your hard drive or something.
3) clearing your Temporary Internet Files and/or Cookies. (I Would try this!!!)

Try one or all of these and see if that does anything. Like I said, These are some other suggestions that might help or not.

***UPDATED 8:51 p.m. ****

***Another Possibility****
When you use the advanced editor(when you click go advanced button at the bottom when you post a message), down at the bottom, there is a check box under ADDITIONAL OPTIONS, that says, DISABLE SMILIES IN TEXT. If that is checked, uncheck it and try it again.

Ok, I knew that my smilies were not working, but now I just found out that my fonts aren't working either. I can't underline, make something bold, or use italics (sp?). What a mystery this has turned out to be.

Somehow in your control panel your editor was set to Standard Editor it needs to be on WWSIWG for smilies to work.

Keith

Was it something I did?

Patrick
01-07-2005, 01:08 PM
Hmmm...let me make sure my smilies are working now....

Nope, still not working Todd! I think you may have to change everyone's control panel. mranderson's smilies aren't worknig either. How do we change the feature?

Okay guys...here's what to do if your smilies aren't working....

Click on User CP (control panel) at the top left. Click on edit options. Scroll down to the last box that is called Miscellaneous Options. Change the setting to Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing. Unfortunately, my setting, like many others on this forum, somehow was changed to Standard Editor. You may need to change this option for the smilies to work correctly.
