Nah. If I'm not able to score some tickets at the box office, I'm going to go downtown around 5:30 or 6 tonight. There will be plenty of folks offering tickets. I'm hoping I can find a couple for a decent price.

Well I got a couple of tickets. Found them on craigslist via StubCity.com. I went to the site, called them, looked them up in the yellow pages and everything turns up OK. I ordered them over the phone and paid $9 for each ticket. Face was $30 each. I got the email with the tickets and was assured that that is how ticketmaster actually sends tickets now. We shall see...

Wish me luck!

His half-time performance was a total buzzkill.

yeah... entertainment was pretty disappointing.. Half time was really, really anti-climatic... try as I might to not compare to the Hornets, it sucked, the entertainment portion left a lot to be desired, it put everyone to sleep... but overall, the game itself was a nice opening.

Graham Colton is more of a whiny college rock singer, never would have imagined him singing the national anthem. (His previous album with The Graham Colton Band was actually quite good).

Anyways, I'm happy to report I was able to watch the game from Dallas. Was going to try and purchase the game via onDemand--but found out I have to purchase the entire season for NBA League Pass at $169 (can't buy single games). Lucky me though--from now until Nov. 4 NBA League Pass is allowing free previews so I got to watch the whole game for free! Albeit, it was FSN Wisconsin with a grainy non-HD picture. But it was better than listening online!

They showed bits and pieces of his warm-up session later on and he sounded fine. Maybe it was nerves?

Is the sound system part of the upgrades? I sure hope so. I think Colton sounded as bad as he did because of the poor sound.

And the pre-game entertainment: C&C Music Factory? Are you kidding me? A has-been (IMO) 90s music group for opening night? Why not go for Vanilla Ice? Or Millie Vanillie? And during the breaks, why not play some music from Oklahomans (Toby, Reba, Garth, Carrie, Flaming Flips, All American Rejects, Hinder, etc...)

I see some major improvements that are needed (both off and on the court).

The one thing I am very proud of, however, is that we have a team and that I'm a season ticket holder. I know there are going to be growing pains and I can't wait until all the kinks are worked out.

Sound system upgrades are next year, I think (hope they've not been done). Hey, the bathroom next to my section was really nice. Tiled floors and walls and granite countertops. It was a remarkable upgrade from last year. It looked like a real NBA caliber arena bathroom. No more cracked, stained concrete, cinder block walls and wall sinks.

I was watching it from home so the sound system there wasn't a factor for me.

I had skipped over the halftime entertainment but went back and watched it (I had it on DVR). Karried was right, it was a little lackluster and yawn-inducing.

Also, maybe it was the audio on TV, but it seemed that once Milwaukee got up a bit the crowd died. They didn't really seem much of a factor until midway through the 4th quarter when the Thunder went on a streak for a bit. Once that happened the "Defense" chant started sounding pretty impressive.

On TV it appeared there were many empty seats down low, if I were the Thunder PR dept. I would have brought down people to fill the seats for the visual impact to make the first game look packed and full. If those people show up the seat fillers get kicked back to their original seats. Sold out is one thing, perception and the reality of not filled up is another.

Karried
10-30-2008, 07:59 AM
True, I think the PR people are a little new at this. From my seats, the place looked packed.

If you saw it on TV you noticed chunks of open seats in the lower sections. I am sure it was officially sold out, I am sure it felt packed when you looked down at the heads in front of you, on TV it looked like there were many open seats.

It's almost impossible to judge attendance on television. When the game began, I didn't see an obvious empty seat anywhere, and I looked around to judge that exact question. But, during the game, people get up and go to the bathroom, they go get food, etc. There were a lot of people missing right after halftime because the lines for food, bathrooms, etc were long.

You can't move people down and then send them back up to their original seats. That would anger both those moving down and those who come back to their seats and find them taken. Again, most people who leave their seats have gone to the bathroom or to get food. They're not gone that long. In a situation like the night of the Ice Storm and you know masses of people aren't going to show up, that's different. Then you move everyone down to the empty seats.

Last night was a great crowd. You had to be there to appreciate the energy and intensity of the crowd at the start of the game, which exceeded anything I've seen in professional basketball, including the NBA finals I've attended. Clay Bennett was basically made to take a curtain call by the prolonged standing ovation mention of his name created. I'm sure David Stern could rarely remember getting a warmer reception. Cheers for Kevin Durant equalled those Chris Paul used to get. I'm not going to worry about the people who got out of their seats at some point in time to go to the bathroom, the IceHouse or whereever.

Agreed, I'm PUMPED to have a team, but Bennett has left disappointing in every category.

Exactly, only lines were ridiculously long, the longest I've ever seen in the Ford Center or any OKC venue. Many items including food were sold out quickly.

Mine thought it was ok. She had been to a couple of Hornets games during their first season here.

She told me that she'd be more interested in seeing games with bigger stars (Lakers, Celtics, etc.) She's not a huge NBA fan.

Keep in mind, the staff in charge of things like the entertainment are probably mostly new, and those that came from Seattle weren't exactly working for a fan-favorite team...

Colton is no joe schmoe. He performed the same song on SNL last spring and it was used extensively on American Idol last season. He just sounded off either because of the sound (I don't expect much from KSBI) or he was sick or something.

on TV it looked like there were many open seats.

Not from what I saw.

My mom was here for a couple of months when the Hornets were first here, and she's become quite the Hornets' fan. She watched them on television the entire time she was here if she wasn't at a game, and now does any time they're on ESPN. She's coming back for another month this winter, and I'm hoping I'll make a Thunder fan out of her (although she won't be seeing them on ESPN anytime soon).
