I miss Vixens. Located where the current Hooters is on I-240 and Penn. Hands down, the best "gentlemans club" ever in OKC.
View Full Version : What businesses do you miss? SOONER8693 11-11-2008, 06:41 PM I miss Vixens. Located where the current Hooters is on I-240 and Penn. Hands down, the best "gentlemans club" ever in OKC. route66gal 11-12-2008, 12:28 AM The discussion about John A. Brown's started me thinking about many places that are no longer here that I really miss. I'm going by memory here, so I may misspell some of the names (feel free to correct me!), but here is my list. :) St. John's (the clothes were wonderful!) Pappagallo's (best shoe store ever!) Ralph Lauren shop (in 50 Penn Place) Laura Ashley shop (in 50 Penn Place) Rothchild's Stefanie's (heart healthy food/restaurant) Glen's Hickory Inn Dairy Queen Chinese restaurant in Shawnee est. by Ann & George Ing Pinnochio's (salad/pizza/sandwich shop in Norman) Queen Ann Cafeteria Anna Maude's (best cafeteria ever!) Continental Theater The Plum Tree Caddeedid Gifts (MWC; I'm sure I've blown the spelling!) Anyone else? I loved Caddeedid Gifts! Can not believe someone remembers it! awesome ! Also the Plum Tree! route66gal 11-12-2008, 12:30 AM Crystals pizza parlor Fox and Horn soundtrack Save Auto tastee freeze on s.w. 59th Across the Street restaurant on S.W. 59th TG&Y Otasco Jim`s Superthrift on S.W. 74th Godfathers pizza nicolosis spaghetti Peter Piper Pizza Crocketts bbq Spartan Atlantic Dairy Queens footlong hotdogs The "ORIGINAL" Los Tacos wow I almost forgot all about Otasco grantgeneral78 11-12-2008, 06:07 AM wow I almost forgot all about Otasco Yeah Otasco sale adds were the best, especially when your a kid the toy adds were great to look at! Martin 11-12-2008, 06:25 AM the "original" los tacos i dunno... while the 'new' location doesn't have the same uniqueness as the old drive-in, i'd say that the food at los tacos tastes exactly the same as it did. southside harrigan's was great. i will definitely second that... i miss harrigan's so much... great place to eat. -M Jesseda 11-12-2008, 08:59 AM you are right i think it was peter pippers, sorry for the wrong area information, i was like 4 years old back then, what ever happened to peter pipers? Bobby821 11-12-2008, 09:42 AM All the good old dark pizza parlors are gone now, it has gone the fast food rout of delivery mostly. Even the new dine in pizza places are not cozy feeling like the old shakeys etc were. About as close as you can come to the old style is the old style pizza huts which are getting fewer. Jesseda 11-12-2008, 10:48 AM why is that, i use to love mazzios when it had the rope lights in the ceiling and tinted window, it was a fun experience, there really isnt any themed restaurants anymore, they just pop up over night and are square shapped, same tables, same ugly carpet, same lighting, what happend to unique places, i would love to see molly murphys, the choice, crystals pizza, peter pippers, geppetos in moore, and so on, nothing new lately thats original, even the joes crab shack off 240 and penn is blah, i rather drive to the one off n.w expressway, unless the remodeled it to be blah as well. Bobby821 11-12-2008, 11:05 AM Most likely because it is cheaper to have a cookie cutter corporate design that can be built for X amount of dollars and just plunk them down in every city. They are all the same basically generic design and furnishings, that way the profits are more since it wasnt a custom design and was kept a simple basic interior and exterior. bluedogok 11-12-2008, 09:57 PM Shotgun Sam's (39th & May location) was the pizza place when I was growing up. I also liked the Godfather's at 23rd & Meridian. Shakey's Pizza (http://www.shakeys.com/) is still around, I ate at one in Harajuku (Tokyo) (http://wikitravel.org/en/Tokyo/Harajuku). It was definitely a bit different at that location than the old 39th Street location. rondvu 11-12-2008, 10:22 PM Remember the old Cains coffee commercial from the 70's? I found the Youtube parody of the old commercial when Cain's was an Oklahoma company. YouTube - Hud Drinks Mud (Cain's Coffee com'l parody) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDNxymxQMAw&feature=PlayList&p=DC3E6738FEC14DF9&index=0) Let your life slow down Take a real look around Have a cup of Cain's For that flavor in moments you'll savor And then give yourself some time And make it easy on your mind With a cup of Cain's; It's a coffee blend you'll want Again and again. While singing and strolling, the coffee-loving crooner nodded familiarly at one table, making a circular gesture to the waiter indicating they should receive a round of coffee on the house. In the last shot, the camera changed focus to follow the gaze of the now thoughtful-appearing entertainer (his hand mike at rest) to a steaming cup of Cain's coffee in the foreground. John 11-13-2008, 02:22 AM I already miss Harold's... :( thatgirl77 11-20-2008, 11:10 PM Wow...so many good memories...:congrats: For shopping...(every girl's dream)... John A. It was a restaurant with a dance floor that featured a band comprised of senior citizens and it was a great place for two-stepping. Also, anyone know the name of the club/restaurant where County Line Barb is now located??? This would be late 70's or early 80's. Nice people and wonderful food. danielf1935 12-28-2008, 07:28 PM I was raised in the inner city during the 60's and early 70's, here are a few of the places I remember. Rootbeer Drive In at NW 11th & Penn (roof shaped like a large wooden barrel) Sparky's Drive In at NW 8th & Virginia Dennis Donuts, just East of May on NW 10th Rocket Skating Rink at NW 7th & Virginia chembree 12-31-2008, 05:21 AM Tony's Italian Specialties at 28th and N. Penn. Nice people and wonderful food. That place was awesome - I had to be dragged there for some reason, but loved it afterwards -- a friend and I were wondering if the current place was any good (I think its called Rococo's?) .... I miss the Monterray House on 39th Expressway -- I honestly dont remember the food, but our family would eat there once a week with my grandparents and we would get little candies (I swear they were in the bottom of the chip basket, but I might be wrong - i was very little) -- when they closed we started to eat out at El Chico at Shepherd Mall and I miss that place as well (Our family became friends with Pepe, we started to eat at his Edmond restaurant and sadly, it was not as good - but I'm glad he is still around) speaking of Sheperd Mall, I miss the Ice Cream Shop where the Farmers Insurance bank is located -- my first real date was Garfields and ice cream at Shepherd Mall ... (Second Date was watching Star Trek V: The Final Frontier -were not still together!!) - I also miss the Big Eds that was there, they were very nice people. I dont remember the name, but there was a TV/Electronic shop, I think near Dillards, that had a video camera that was aimed into the mall walking area, and it displayed on a TV by the entrance, my grandmother would dance in front of the camera and watch herself on TV - funny stuff!! -- The little sign for The Jade clothing store was really cool also By the way, I have a small memory of a little strip of stores above the entrance of Dillards, in fact, as much as I was in Shepherd mall, I only remember seeing those shops only one time -- the stairs are still there, but the little shops are not around -- If there was something up there could someone please let me know what it was? -- I REALLY miss the Gold Mine Arcade in Quail Springs -- I played Tournament Cyberball all the time! -- Hello Kitty store at Quail Springs should have stuck around, I think they shold open one in Penn Square! KOFM and KZBS are really missed .... a friend of mine (still a great friend!) got to be an 'on air DJ' through High School on KZBS .. totally rad getting to hang out at the radio station on the weekend (although after awhile, we realized we were just sitting around a radio station on the weekend! LOL) One last memory to share .......The Mayflower Theatre ........ I only visited once, I was 16, My friend and I made up some wild story to pretend we were old enough to get in and watch some adult movies -- It took forever to work up the nerves to walk in -- once we got in, the dude didnt care if we were 16, 10 or 50 years old -- he took our money and we saw about 2 hours of adult entertainment -- I still drive by that area often and think 'Hey, Thats the location for the Mayflower!' LOL Thanks for bringing back many memories!! jbrown84 01-02-2009, 05:29 PM Yes, Roccoco is good. foodiefan 01-02-2009, 07:13 PM Yes, Roccoco is good. Esp enjoy the Sunday Brunch!! Yakimono 06-22-2009, 08:02 PM I miss Jimmy's Egg, the original. Jimmy was kewl guy I worked for when he had the only cafe on May and about 16th NW. Went to the one in Moore and was disappointed in the food. Especially the home fries, which used to have bell peppers and onions. Now very dry. So are the omelets. He taught me to make the best omelets by not letting them cook completely, folding them and they would finish cooking when they were taken to the customer. He could also flip pancakes in the air and was the fastest chopper I had ever seen. Now it's own by a Vietamese man and the menu has changed so much. Went to the one on Classen NW and it was a nasty restaurant, IMO. Maybe it's me, but I want the good old days back!
