I miss Vixens. Located where the current Hooters is on I-240 and Penn. Hands down, the best "gentlemans club" ever in OKC.

All the good old dark pizza parlors are gone now, it has gone the fast food rout of delivery mostly. Even the new dine in pizza places are not cozy feeling like the old shakeys etc were. About as close as you can come to the old style is the old style pizza huts which are getting fewer.

why is that, i use to love mazzios when it had the rope lights in the ceiling and tinted window, it was a fun experience, there really isnt any themed restaurants anymore, they just pop up over night and are square shapped, same tables, same ugly carpet, same lighting, what happend to unique places, i would love to see molly murphys, the choice, crystals pizza, peter pippers, geppetos in moore, and so on, nothing new lately thats original, even the joes crab shack off 240 and penn is blah, i rather drive to the one off n.w expressway, unless the remodeled it to be blah as well.

Most likely because it is cheaper to have a cookie cutter corporate design that can be built for X amount of dollars and just plunk them down in every city. They are all the same basically generic design and furnishings, that way the profits are more since it wasnt a custom design and was kept a simple basic interior and exterior.

Shotgun Sam's (39th & May location) was the pizza place when I was growing up. I also liked the Godfather's at 23rd & Meridian.

Shakey's Pizza (http://www.shakeys.com/) is still around, I ate at one in Harajuku (Tokyo) (http://wikitravel.org/en/Tokyo/Harajuku). It was definitely a bit different at that location than the old 39th Street location.

Does anyone remember the place on 39 Expwy in the late 70's or early 80's that was only opened on Sundays. It was a restaurant with a dance floor that featured a band comprised of senior citizens and it was a great place for two-stepping. Also, anyone know the name of the club/restaurant where County Line Barb is now located??? This would be late 70's or early 80's.

That place was awesome - I had to be dragged there for some reason, but loved it afterwards -- a friend and I were wondering if the current place was any good (I think its called Rococo's?) ....

I miss the Monterray House on 39th Expressway -- I honestly dont remember the food, but our family would eat there once a week with my grandparents and we would get little candies (I swear they were in the bottom of the chip basket, but I might be wrong - i was very little) -- when they closed we started to eat out at El Chico at Shepherd Mall and I miss that place as well (Our family became friends with Pepe, we started to eat at his Edmond restaurant and sadly, it was not as good - but I'm glad he is still around)

speaking of Sheperd Mall, I miss the Ice Cream Shop where the Farmers Insurance bank is located -- my first real date was Garfields and ice cream at Shepherd Mall ... (Second Date was watching Star Trek V: The Final Frontier -were not still together!!) - I also miss the Big Eds that was there, they were very nice people.

I dont remember the name, but there was a TV/Electronic shop, I think near Dillards, that had a video camera that was aimed into the mall walking area, and it displayed on a TV by the entrance, my grandmother would dance in front of the camera and watch herself on TV - funny stuff!! --

The little sign for The Jade clothing store was really cool also

I REALLY miss the Gold Mine Arcade in Quail Springs -- I played Tournament Cyberball all the time! -- Hello Kitty store at Quail Springs should have stuck around, I think they shold open one in Penn Square!

KOFM and KZBS are really missed .... a friend of mine (still a great friend!) got to be an 'on air DJ' through High School on KZBS .. totally rad getting to hang out at the radio station on the weekend (although after awhile, we realized we were just sitting around a radio station on the weekend! LOL)

One last memory to share .......The Mayflower Theatre ........ I only visited once, I was 16, My friend and I made up some wild story to pretend we were old enough to get in and watch some adult movies -- It took forever to work up the nerves to walk in -- once we got in, the dude didnt care if we were 16, 10 or 50 years old -- he took our money and we saw about 2 hours of adult entertainment -- I still drive by that area often and think 'Hey, Thats the location for the Mayflower!' LOL

The level above Dillards was the mall offices. Stairs went to the lobby of the management office. They had several large windows that looked down on the mall. I don't ever remember there being stores there, but it's possible late in the life of Shepherd Mall (when there was retail), I just don't remember it.

It would have been early, sometime in the 70's -- I hungout there alot at the end of its retail life (and afterwards!!) ....

Im sure the windows were just decorated or something and I remember it wrong (I would have been really young, like 3-5 years old, and memories are not the best at that age) - I just needed someone to tell me something about it, I've wondered about it for 30 years! - what I actually remember were people sitting up there like a small restaurant or something ..

Van's Sesame Seed Bread!!! Van's Bakery evidently closed in the REAL early '60's. Best commercially packaged bread I ever ate in my life. I've never witnessed anything remotely close to it since. SOOO special.

Does anyone remember Buster Brown's shoes in Northpark mall? Was it Buster Browns or another store that had the monkey in the back with a little playhouse you could play in.

I'm not going to mention all the ones as miss as most of them have been hit upon to some extent already. Cool thread lots of memories.

I remember the Gibson's that was downtown, I went to Junior High at Central (NW 7th and Robinson), Gibson's had a popcorn machine and coke machines, we used to go there during lunch break and grab some, I know, not very healthy.

I miss Jimmy's Egg, the original. Jimmy was kewl guy I worked for when he had the only cafe on May and about 16th NW. Went to the one in Moore and was disappointed in the food. Especially the home fries, which used to have bell peppers and onions. Now very dry. So are the omelets. He taught me to make the best omelets by not letting them cook completely, folding them and they would finish cooking when they were taken to the customer. He could also flip pancakes in the air and was the fastest chopper I had ever seen. Now it's own by a Vietamese man and the menu has changed so much. Went to the one on Classen NW and it was a nasty restaurant, IMO. Maybe it's me, but I want the good old days back! Good food, friendly personal employees.

Otherwise, I'm fine with whatever's gone. I don't get all that attached to retail establishments. I just liked the Boar's Head because they let me play (and drink there, for free) well before I was 21. The owners there were very supportive of the local music scene, and I recall they had an excellent stage setup.

I agree! Except I was old enough to get in, but the setup & the live music was outstanding! Fritz now runs the bar at Belle Isle Brewery which has some great music & food... The setup is just not outstanding!!!

Herman's Seafood.

Herman's is the biggest miss for me. Next is Johnnie's Topper Burger that was
on the S.E. corner of N.W. 12th and N. Hudson, Beverly's between N.W. 11th
and 12th on N. Walker on the west side and then Priddy's, which later
became Martin's, on N.W. 11th and N. Hudson on the N.W. corner.

Nicolosi's is the correct spelling. I believe one of the family members still lives
on Ann Arbor just north of 10th on the east side of the street. He or she
was a veterinarian.

Cattleman's is still open in the Stockyards and the Boulevard cafeteria is still
open, too, in the same location across from the Plaza Court.

The original one closed in the late 80's I believe, there was someone who tried to reopen it but it didn't last long. It has been a senior wellness center for 15 or more years.

One of the children is a vet, their office is on NW 23rd Street between Meridian and Portland.

We lived a half mile from there but went to Shotgun Sam's on 39th & May weekly, we went to Nicolosi's occasionally.

Poor Cattlemen's no wonder they run those commercials "We're still here"..lol

What happened to all the little drive-ins that featured Broasted Chicken? Two I remember most are the ones at S.W.44th west of Agnew and one at about 6th and Walnut where we often stopped at on the way to the Zoo.
