The food is delicious & it's always busy when I'm there. trousers 11-01-2008, 02:49 PM I'll second Queen of Sheba. A real hidden gem. Another place to try if your feeling adventurous is Tienda Guatemala. Good stuff. angel27 11-01-2008, 03:52 PM What about ND foods - great little sandwich shop but I havn't been to it since they moved from 50th & Western to Britton. Nick remembers everyone's name whose ever been there, I think. A mom & her son run the place. Another good sandwich place is gourmet deli on N. Western. I also like Rons and the Lunchbox. The runway cafe is the one I really think would work, and the one I want to try. jbrown84 11-01-2008, 05:18 PM Runway Cafe has unique going for it for sure, even if it's not the hotspot that Nic's or Irma's is. Millie 11-01-2008, 11:35 PM Eischen's would sure make some good TV, and the place has a lot of history. True, it isn't in OKC, but it isn't too far away. Millie 11-01-2008, 11:37 PM Also, isn't Ron's based in Tulsa? I don't really think of Ron's as an OKC place, even though we do have locations here. ramart103 11-02-2008, 10:06 PM I've only lived here for a few months, but Someplace else on Western and nw23rd is a neat little place. Also, Jimmies Roundup Cafe on sw59th and blackwelder has a ton of history and a great place to people watch on saturday morning! fuzzytoad 11-04-2008, 04:43 PM Skyline Restaurant NONzine 11-04-2008, 09:09 PM Saturn Grill! jbrown84 11-05-2008, 02:18 PM I had a dream there was a diner across from Penn Square that specialized in various kinds of pastrami sandwiches, and even pastrami pizzas. I was in there late at night and it was packed and they were whipping those sandwiches out like one every thirty seconds. Just a dream though. Don't know where it came from... LOL jbkrems 11-05-2008, 10:48 PM How about Chicas Mexican place in Nichols Hills, or even Saturn Grill - ???? Would anyone consider those places as candidates - ? metro 11-06-2008, 08:27 AM Chicas (gross) or Saturn Grill (excellent) aren't really diners, drive in or a dive. rondvu 11-06-2008, 08:37 AM Hands down is Bobo's Chicken on friday and saturday nights at NE 23rd and Hood. They open their wagon from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM. Did I mention the chicken is sooooooooooooo good. john60 11-09-2008, 11:43 PM Ozzy's Cafe at the OU Max Westheimer Airfield is great. They have an all-you-can eat breakfast that is pretty good...worth a look. Reminds me of a lot of places I've seen on that show TStheThird 11-11-2008, 12:23 AM Gotta go with Nic's. The place is unreal. okiemom 11-14-2008, 06:29 PM If they were willing to go outside of OKC, Eischen's, as mentioned several times on this discussion, is perfect for the show. So is Roy's BBQ in Chickasha. If they wanted to go way outside OKC, Meers (Meers - Store & Restaurant (http://www.meersstore.com/)) is definitely unusual. By the way, I submitted Eischen's to the show website a few months ago. Received an auto reply thanking me and that was the end of that. jbrown84 11-17-2008, 01:51 PM Meers is the epitome, I think, but it seems they rarely go to rural areas from what I've seen. jsibelius 11-17-2008, 07:51 PM Why don't we just make suggestions and let the people who run the show decide where they want to go? Maybe they'll decide to give Meers a look-see, or one of those other places out in the 'burbs. It's worth making the suggestion. What's the worst that will happen? It doesn't make the show? Too bad. At least you still know about it, and now, so do the people who read here. Insider 11-18-2008, 08:51 AM Hey guys. I have read through this entire thread and didn't see this answered anywhere...so I am going to ask... What is a dive? I feel kinda dumb to ask that, but I am going to try to claim age (26) as my reason for not knowing this. Heck, I didn't even know what a drive-in restaurant was until I moved to Norman in 2001 for college (when I was introduced to Sonic). I just visited my first drive-in movie this summer! CrimsonOberon 11-18-2008, 12:49 PM Nic's. A tiny, hole-in-the-wall building with some insanely good food for a good price. bluepickle 11-18-2008, 02:52 PM No one has mentioned Bricktown burgers. I think that fits the definition. RSA 11-21-2008, 12:18 PM As stated above, Leo's has already been on the show. Ohhhhhh I just thought of a unique one that would be great tv that no one has mentioned yet. Annie's Runway Cafe at Wiley Post Airport. The planes pull up and take off right up to the backdoor of the restaurant. You can watch them though all the glass windows in the dining room! Annies would be perfect for the show! Good call Metro. Their food is awesome! Great place to take the kids. My boys were pretty occupied with the airplanes and managed not to tear up the place. KarenAGypsy 04-24-2009, 02:41 AM The food and especially the service has gone downhill at Beverly's since they moved from the tiny building they were in at penn and NWX to where they are now. We used to eat breakfast there often, now we are looking for a new weekend breakfast place. I understand moving the old light fixtures and banquettes to keep the original feel of the place but it looks like they also moved the dirty carpet and years of dirt and grime that was on the banquettes. Looked shabby and run down from the first day they reopened....a real turn off. We ate there once and never went back. Yuck! traemac 04-28-2009, 03:49 PM this will be the next place on the show Mama E's Wings & Waffles onthestrip 04-28-2009, 04:15 PM If they were willing to go outside of OKC, Eischen's, as mentioned several times on this discussion, is perfect for the show.... By the way, I submitted Eischen's to the show website a few months ago. Received an auto reply thanking me and that was the end of that. I was told by a Okarche resident while at Eischens this weekend that the show will be in town in the next month. bluedogok 04-28-2009, 07:18 PM You clearly haven't seen the show then. TV care's about one thing. Ratings! Now obviously the majority of the places are good eats, but some are obviously more for visuals. Visuals and story are what sells and keeps people's interest. Heck, last time the show came here they went to Leo's BBQ and I wouldn't even rate it in the top 20 BBQ places in the metro. They went to Leo's because of the story, not the quality of the BBQ. The story makes good tv. Just what do you consider "good BBQ"? Leo's is a place that we hit almost everytime we are in town, we skipped it this weekend since we were headed to the Arts Festival for eats on Saturday but it is one of our favorites. I still prefer it over many of the places here in the middle of the Central Texas BBQ world. There are other places that I like in OKC but it is near the top in my book....and any place that has cloth on the tables and for the napkins is not a BBQ joint, it is a restaurant that serves BBQ. Sending someone to Iron Starr is akin to sending them to Lambert's (http://www.lambertsaustin.com/) here, great food to be sure but it just isn't "BBQ" the same as a BBQ joint. Meers is the epitome, I think, but it seems they rarely go to rural areas from what I've seen. They have profiled many rural places, especially in the first season. They did The Rock Cafe in Stroud and you can't get much more rural than Mac & Ernie's Roadside Eatery (http://www.macandernies.com/) in Tarpley, Texas (60 miles west of San Antonio) which is tremendous, they have even had the Ancho Quail recipe on the Food TV website. BTW - we stopped at Meers on the way up last Friday. jbrown84 04-28-2009, 09:49 PM That's funny. I am a huge fan of Iron Starr and also went to Lambert's when in Austin last year. In my defense, it was a Sunday lunch and that was the only BBQ we could find near downtown that wasn't full or closed or doing a special brunch. bluedogok 04-28-2009, 10:55 PM Lambert's is good and is about the only BBQ type of food that is downtown but I will take The Salt Lick or Rudy's over it any day. Steve 04-28-2009, 10:57 PM :bow:Tuck, that's not healthy eating, is it? tuck 04-29-2009, 07:26 AM [QUOTE=bluedogok;221393]Just what do you consider "good BBQ"? So you're telling me that Rendevous in Memphis isn't a BBQ joint...please!! White tablecloths, linens and servers wear all whites. I know Lambert's well, Austin and Fort Worth; he does a great job. People's tastes are changing; they like good service and tend to frequent places that use high quality ingredients. (Lambert's / Iron Starr) The best BBQ joint conversation will always be one with no ending...too many great ones around. Rudy's in Austin (The Austin franchisee group only) is great as is Coopers in Llano. kmf563 04-29-2009, 09:25 AM Although I'm not a big fan of many of these places, I think they would make great locations. Restaurants: 1. County Line BBQ - it even still has the dumbwaiter used during prohibition days. And a lot of character. 2. Cattlemens - typical place in cowtown that really screams Oklahoma to non-Oklahomans. 3. Bricktown Brewery - showcases Bricktown, original brew, and used to showcase huge names in music. Dive Bars: 1. Edna's - order a lunchbox, put a dollar on the wall, and get the woman to dance on the bar. 2. Cock O'the Walk - It's been around forever and you have to buy a tshirt 3. Classics - bikers and bouncers. oh my. always a springer show every time I go. Drive Ins: (Just to mention, there's definitely more than one location, but the headquarters for Sonic is in OKC) Can't really think of any that aren't national chains. Outside of OKC - 1. Eischens (chicken in Okarche people drive to wait 4 hours for) 2. The Deli (Dive bar in Norman) 3. Classic 50's Drive In (Norman) 4. The Wolftrap (Edmond Dive Bar) foodiefan 04-29-2009, 12:17 PM Drive-In. . .drawing a blank on the name right now (who needs the name. . . I know how to get there!!). (Lambert's / Iron Starr) The best BBQ joint conversation will always be one with no ending...too many great ones around. Rudy's in Austin (The Austin franchisee group only) is great as is Coopers in Llano. I haven't been to Rendezvous, but if it is as described, it's not a BBQ joint, it is a BBQ restaurant. I have nothing against them, Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ (by Union Station) is my favorite BBQ place in KC but it is not a joint. I like County Line on occasion, there is a place for those type of restaurants. Lambert's is good even iff they don;t smoke their meats in a traditional way. A joint is where you can see the smoke on the walls and you feel like you sat in the pit when you walk out of there. Louis Mueller's in Taylor is a joint, most of the places in Lockhart are joints (even if I think they are overrated). Coopers in Llano can be good but are sometimes inconsistent (it is a popular motorcycle destination) but is one of the few places that I eat pork BBQ, they have great tenderloin and chops. I agree, the Austin Rudy's is the best of the Rudy's bunch and they have a good burger place in Mighty Fine (http://www.mightyfineburgers.com/) which is a new concept they opened recently. If you travel down here some, you might be interested in the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ Places (http://www.texasmonthly.com/2008-06-01/feature10.php) they put out last year. I don't agree with all of their selections but I am going to give most of them a try. foodiefan 04-29-2009, 06:44 PM Coit's! Thx jbrown. . .(Slapping forehead. . .hard!!) HOW could I have forgotten Coit's??!! kmf563 04-30-2009, 08:57 AM There are plenty of Coits. That's why. I was only responding to your comment about "only national chains". I don't really think Coit's is Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives material. okclee 05-01-2009, 05:21 PM Saw the show the other night, Guy was in Vinita at a diner. Don't remember the name, but he was loving the Chiken fried Steak. MrBojangles 05-04-2009, 12:35 AM One of my favorites shows. But can't figure out for love of OKC, wonder why people are so fascinated with Leo's BBQ. And I grew up on the NE side of OKC kevinpate 05-04-2009, 07:43 AM Tradition and reputation adds flavor beyond what's actually present. That's not unique to Leo's, but do suspect it is applicable. I've not been to Leo's in a while, but I hold good memories of my times there. metro 05-04-2009, 10:03 AM One of my favorites shows. BBQ is much about personal preference, just like down here many consider Lockhart with Kruetz, Smitty's, Black's and others to be the "mecca" of Texas BBQ, there are other places around that I prefer and they also don't have that Lockhart "attitude" that think they are doing you a favor by serving you. Leo's is my favorite in OKC, that could be from the fact that I have been eating it for going on 30 years. Stinger 05-13-2009, 10:51 AM They're coming to Oklahoma... OKARCHE — Eischen’s Bar is going global. A film crew from the Food Network’s "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" will be in town Monday afternoon to shoot a viewer’s choice episode. People who wrote in recommending Eishen’s have been invited to be a part of the shoot, which is scheduled to start between 12:30 and 1 p.m. and continue for the following two to four hours. Eischen’s Bar, 108 S Second, is known for its fried chicken, which is fried whole and served with pickles, onions and white bread. "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” hosted by Guy Fieri, features small, colorful cafes of local acclaim across the country. CCOKC 05-18-2009, 08:12 PM When I was going to the Triathalon on Saturday I got off I-35 at S 15th and there was a sign at the corner that said the Food Netword was in town that day and gave the place and time. All I could make out on the sign was Food Network and May 16th unfortunately since I was turning right and the sign was in the left lane. I assumed it was for somewhere close to that area.
