The 10-story, 283-suite John Q. Hammons’ Embassy Suites Norman Hotel and Conference Center opened today.

Located at 2501 Conference Drive in Northwest Norman, the hotel opens with $3 million in pre-opening sales. The Springfield, Mo.-based company will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 21 along with a formal ticketed grand opening event in December with proceeds benefitting the United Way.

“Norman represents a compelling opportunity with several indicators for future growth that mandate quality hotel and meeting accommodations to help foster that growth,” John Q. Hammons, founder, chairman and CEO of John Q. Hammons Hotels and Resorts, said in a statement. “We’re helping to build a community people are drawn to; it’s what we do best.”

The hotel and conference center measures 80,000 gross square feet of meeting space and will be able to accommodate nearly 2,900 guests.

Awesome, i'm glad they finally got it open. Hopefully this will bring some more traffic and new energy to the University Park area and Norman in general!

I took a little self guided tour of the public areas Saturday morning before the game and I must say I was impressed. All the furnishings were first class. They have a ballroom which can seat 3000 around tables if all the partitions are removed. Wonder who will use that? Also was told that a wedding reception would be held in the hotel and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra was coming up from Dallas to play. Imagine that kind of expense on top of everything else.

Yeah, that ballroom is something else. But if you noticed it divides into eight smaller rooms so there can be multiple events going on at the same time. If you ever have to use these type of conference centers you realize there just are not that many in town. I am a cpa and we have conferences all the time to get our continuing ed. We end up having them at the Clarion at 1-40 and Meridian (which my stepfather also was the supervisor on by the way) and the Cox Center or Metro Tech (Springlake). If you ever go through the Cox Center on the way to the Ford Center take a look at the activities board. There is something going on there every day.
