OKCTalker 09-11-2008, 09:32 AM Shepherd Mall owner files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
September 11, 2008
OKLAHOMA CITY – VTA Oklahoma City LLC, the owner of Shepherd Mall, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization Wednesday.
VTA paid $48.5 million for the mall in June of 2005. The bankruptcy petition lists estimated assets at a range of $50 million to $100 million, with $10 million to $50 million in liabilities.
The mall covers more than 636,000 square feet.
VTA’s Dallas attorney was not immediately available for comment.
The business’s bankruptcy creditor matrix lists more than 200 creditors.
The largest of its unsecured creditor claims include $44,580 owed to OG&E and $53,000 to Affordable Asphalt and Concrete.
The mall was built in 1964. It sits on about 45 acres.
It was the first enclosed retail mall in Oklahoma City, but has housed mainly government agency tenants in recent years.

Oh GAWD the Smell! 09-11-2008, 11:54 AM Wonder what that means to Farmer's?
Jesseda 09-11-2008, 12:04 PM they will all now move to crossroads then we will have a repeat 6 years down the road and then they will all move to quail springs , thus the dying mall cycle continues
Kerry 09-11-2008, 01:00 PM Anyone interested in helping me start the worlds largest indoor urban assult paintball course? I know 600,000 sq feet that might be available soon.

Combine and intertwine that with a go-cart track and some ADHD monkeys, and you could make a mint renting out guns to road ragers.
Hell, with one side popping paintballs, the other side retaliating with flung poo, and the go-carts caught in the crossfire? You could make a MINT off of spectator seats!
Kerry 09-11-2008, 01:31 PM Maybe I can get a tv contract wit ESPN8 - The Ocho. You can read all about in Obscure Sport Quarterly.

Cotton McKnight: Looks like it's gonna be a two-on-one, a manage a trois of pain.
Pepper Brooks: Usually you pay double for that kind of action, Cotton.
amaesquire 09-11-2008, 03:12 PM Maybe Banta can buy it and turn it into a sort of housing compound.
Only kidding.
Sort of.
warreng88 09-11-2008, 03:37 PM F-ing A Cotton, F-ING A!!!
Pepper needs a new pair of shorts.
ddavidson8 09-11-2008, 05:17 PM they will all now move to crossroads then we will have a repeat 6 years down the road and then they will all move to quail springs , thus the dying mall cycle continues
So you are saying that Quail Springs should be added to the dying mall website? Really, that's what you're saying?
Jon27 09-11-2008, 05:42 PM Wonder what that means to Farmer's?
Same here!
onthestrip 09-11-2008, 06:37 PM I think the last thing that they will do is kick out paying tenants.
SoonerLakers 09-11-2008, 11:58 PM Wonder what that means to Farmer's?
Farmers won't be leaving Oklahoma City. They just renewed the lease through 2010 with Sheperd Mall. And I'm sure someone will buy up the mall and at least let business as usually continue. In the meantime Farmers is planning on building a new facility in the OKC area. No location selection has been announced.
Jesseda 09-12-2008, 07:42 AM no not yet if you read the post maybe in 6 years not now or just yet, but all the new lifestyle centers will hurt quail springs mall..

I keep hearing that, and so does my g/f (she works there), but nothing concrete has been announced.
OKCTalker 09-12-2008, 10:38 AM Why WOULDN'T business continue - generally - as usual? It's a reorganization, not a liquidation.
Kerry 09-12-2008, 11:35 AM It will probably continue as normal, but talking about go-kart racing ADHD monkies is much more fun.
Turanacus 09-12-2008, 03:23 PM so what's the difference between this thread and the thread on newsok.com with the exact same article posted and the comment section at the bottom of the page? Threads started with jacked articles is weak, isn't dey?
Kerry 09-12-2008, 04:59 PM Well the biggest difference in that in 2 days you won't be able to comment on the story on the newsok site. At OKCTALK we can talk about this for years.

There will likely be a location announce by the end of the year. Most rumors favor Quail Springs area.

How did you find this out?

How do you know that, do you work there? I do and once heard a rumor about moving but have not heard anything since about location or any timing of announcements. It has only been in the last few weeks that all the carpet has been replaced in the downstairs section.

Did they get rid of the comments feature? I noticed I couldn't find it lately.
Steve 09-13-2008, 07:51 PM No, most stories allow comments, and I'm pretty sure the comment fields stay open longer than a couple days. If you'd like, I can forward this question onto the NewsOK folks and find out what the answer is.
jbrown84 09-13-2008, 08:42 PM Well I really only noticed it on the Drunk Attorneys story. Maybe they just turned the comments off on that one as a pre-emptive strike.
kevinpate 09-13-2008, 09:10 PM maybe there's a auto-eject after X number of lawyer jokes get posted?
amaesquire 09-15-2008, 09:07 AM Maybe they got tired of idiots like Paul, Yukon and Tu posting ridiculous rants about nothing. Kind of like our own Tom Elmore.

Yes, I work there. I don't have definitive answers either. But, there have been rumors in the datacenter about the Quail location. Reasoning is that because of the all the existing businesses in that business park the infrastructure is in place for the large flow of data that comes in and out of our building.
And the carpet was in desperate need of replacing. Since the lease runs until 2010, 2 more years of that carpet would not be good. :)
AAC2005 09-15-2008, 03:14 PM Any rumblings about what the state is going to do with the many agencies that call Shepherd Mall home? Is Social Security ready to move back downtown (or uptown, for that matter)?
